Game of Thrones: The Drogon Voice

Chapter 29: Chapter 29: True and False Pursuit

"Your Majesty, please look at this." Drogon finally heard Barristan's heavenly voice.

After taking the letter and reading its contents, Daenerys was surprised and suspicious.

She already knew Varys's identity, and it was he who had been passing news about her to the Usurper, causing her and her brother Viserys to flee.

Now Varys actually wants to be loyal to her, which makes her a little unbelievable and hard to accept.

"Ser Barristan, what do you think of this letter of surrender? Varys caused my brother and I to flee all the way. I find it hard to accept his loyalty. And if he really wants to surrender, shouldn't he come here in person? Is he afraid that I will kill him?"

[If Varys wanted to kill you, you would have died countless times! ] After hearing what Daenerys said, Drogon couldn't help but say in his heart.

Varys's tentacles spread across three continents, and only the little-known continent of Ultes south of Asshai is without his little bird.

If he wanted to kill the young Targaryen siblings, it would be too easy for him as he had too many opportunities. The reason they were still alive today was that only Varys, the chief of intelligence, could perfectly manage to hunt them down without killing them and without being discovered by the king.

Hearing Drogon's words, Daenerys recalled the humiliation she had just suffered from him. She really didn't like Varys, but why did Drogon say that?

Thinking carefully back to her life on the run since she could remember, they were almost always one step ahead of the assassins and escaped. They were extremely lucky. The only time they were assassinated by poisoned wine was discovered by Jorah.

Is it true, as Drogon said, that Varys didn't really hunt them down?

"Your Majesty, although I have lived with Varys for many years, I do not know him particularly well. I think he is very good at judging situations, is sleek and cunning, and has done nothing good, but he has not done anything too bad either," Barristan thought for a moment and replied.

After listening to Barristan's narration, Daenerys thought about what Drogon was thinking. If what he said was true, then why did Varys protect his brother and sister in disguise, and for what purpose?

Thinking of this, she suddenly had an idea and asked: "He didn't come in person, and promised to provide us with necessary intelligence in King's Landing and Slaver's Bay, and find the right time to win allies for us. Is this credible?"

[You are his reserve queen, and you are now officially serving him. As long as you continue to treat ordinary people like you are liberating slaves now, he will not betray you.] Hearing the Dragon Mother asking Barristan, Drogon remembered the cause of the conflict between Varys and the Dragon Mother in the future.

I've been fooled! Daenerys was secretly delighted. She had openly asked Barristan, but her real purpose was to hear Drogon's answer.

"I don't think we can trust him completely." Barristan hesitated for a moment before answering carefully. He didn't know that his queen had already got the answer she wanted, and Drogon was even more fooled.

"Ser Barristan, bring a banner, and I will have Drogon tell Varys that I accept his allegiance," Daenerys ordered.

Although it was still difficult for Daenerys to accept the loyalty of the man who once hunted her, she still decided to listen to Drogon's words.

[I don't want to do such a boring thing!] When Drogon heard that Long Mu wanted him to fulfill his promise with Varys, he was unwilling to do so.

"Your Majesty, I think we need to reconsider this. After all, Varys's usual behavior is..."

"I will be careful!" Daenerys replied in a firm and unquestionable tone, and Barristan could only turn around and take the banner.

A few minutes later, Barristan came with a large scarlet banner with a black background and a three-headed dragon on it, which was the emblem of the Targaryen family.

"Drogon, go and fly around Astapor with the banner!" Although she knew Drogon was unwilling, Daenerys still wanted to take revenge on him.

Drogon turned his head and snorted to express his disapproval.

Daenerys said it again, but Drogon still ignored her. She could only grit her teeth and said, "Then let Viserion go!"

Drogon walked out of the room, flew into the air, grabbed Viserion and pulled him down. He gestured and yelled at him, teaching him how to use his claws to hold the banner and fly in the sky.

This was the secret signal he and Varys agreed upon. If Daenerys accepted his allegiance, she would let her dragon fly around Astapor with the Targaryen flag, and he would naturally know.

Barristan was surprised to see Drogon teaching Viserion like a human. As a Kingsguard of Mad King Aerys, he was of course very familiar with the history of the Targaryen family and had a lot of knowledge about dragons.

But he had never heard of a dragon that could shrink after growing up, let alone seen a dragon as smart as Drogon. This made him even more certain that Daenerys was the future ruler of the Seven Kingdoms and the true Queen of Dragons.

Viserion understood what Drogon meant, and excitedly fiddled with the flag with his claws a few times, then grabbed both sides and flew into the air.

The surrounding soldiers and residents had already seen Viserion landed, and when they saw him flying into the sky with a large flag in his hand, they all looked up curiously.

Viserys did not fly too high, the big flag fluttered in the air, and the three-headed fire dragon danced in the wind as if it were alive. The residents who heard the news walked out of the room and looked up at the sky. The devout slaves even knelt down before the dragon and the big flag.

Daenerys was extremely happy when she heard the report. She didn't expect that just a secret code display would bring such an effect.

At the same time that Viserion displayed the banner, Daenerys summoned Jorah and others to the temporary meeting hall.

They also saw the huge flag waving by the giant dragon in the sky and were surprised, not knowing whether it was just for display or had other meanings.

In the council chamber, Barristan, as the Queen's Guard, stood on Daenerys' left, Missandei stood on the right, and Jorah and bloodguard Rakharo stood a little away from Daenerys.

In addition to these familiar faces, drogon also saw a newcomer with a resolute face, dark skin, and a capable figure.

Drogon guessed that he should be Grey Worm, the leader chosen by the Unsullied.

After Daenerys freed the Unsullied, she learned his name and allowed him to change it, but he said that the name Grey Worm represented luck because it allowed him to meet Daenerys, and he was unwilling to change it.

Looking at Drogon on Daenerys' shoulder, Grey Worm was also a little curious. It was also the first time he saw Drogon up close today.

Compared to the huge size of the other two dragons, Drogon was almost the same size as a newborn dragon. However, after seeing the screams of Rhaegal and the others in the one-on-two fight, he did not underestimate Drogon at all.

Grey Worm, who is well versed in combat and fighting techniques, knows very well how terrifying it is to have the power of a dragon in such a small body.

He, who had been staring intently at Drogon, couldn't help but stare at him for a while.

"You should all have seen the flag in the sky. It is actually a signal to Varys the Octopus Spider in King's Landing, indicating that I accept his allegiance." Daenerys announced when everyone was present.
