- Dark Forest – Dungeon World -

- March 12, 1936 – Early Morning -

The air was thick with dampness and the scent of rotting leaves. Aryan crouched low, his breath slow and measured, eyes scanning the dense shadows around him. The trees loomed high, their twisted branches blocking out most of the dim light filtering through the sky above. Every time he entered this world, the sheer weight of its oppressive atmosphere settled over him like a second skin.

Tonight was different. Tonight, he was here for a purpose.

The climb to Tier-4 had been sluggish, a wall he couldn't quite break through. But he knew the answer lay within this dungeon—within the beasts that roamed its depths. If he wanted to push past his limits, he had to earn it.

He had already cut his way through the usual predators of the dark forest—massive wolves with eyes like burning embers, venomous serpents as thick as tree trunks, and shadowed creatures that slithered just beyond the edges of perception. But now, he had come upon something else entirely.

He stayed hidden In the undergrowth, watching the three titans locked in a vicious struggle.

The largest was a monstrous blend of a bear and a rhinoceros, standing an impossible fifteen meters tall on its hind legs. Thick, plated skin covered its body, and every stomp sent tremors through the earth. It roared, the sound deep and guttural, shaking the trees around them.

Its opponent was just as terrifying—a hulking ten-meter beast with the body of a werewolf but the powerful frame of a gorilla. Its elongated claws sliced through the air with deadly precision, and its muscles coiled with raw, unrestrained power.

The third was smaller, but no less deadly. A sleek, eight-meter creature with the body of a leopard, patches of chameleon-like skin shifting colors at will, and a tail ending in the open maw of a snake. It moved with eerie fluidity, its form blurring as it shifted from one spot to another in the blink of an eye.

Aryan remained still, his mind working. If he waited, they would weaken each other, and then he could strike. But fate had other plans. The creatures froze—three pairs of glowing eyes snapping toward the undergrowth where he hid.

They had sensed him.

With terrifying coordination, they turned away from each other, as if uniting under an unspoken agreement. And then, they charged.

Aryan reacted instantly. Twenty shadow clones erupted into existence.

The battle exploded into chaos. Aryan's clones moved in perfect synchrony, each an extension of his will. The creatures attacked relentlessly, but Aryan adapted.

The werewolf-gorilla hybrid lunged first, claws slicing through the air toward him. Aryan twisted, barely dodging, and instead of counterattacking directly, he extended his hands—absorbing the kinetic force from the swipe. The energy built within him, surging through his veins. With a flick of his wrist, he redirected it back, amplified tenfold.

The beast staggered back as the shockwave blasted into its chest, but Aryan had no time to revel in the moment. The leopard-chameleon hybrid vanished from sight, only for his instincts to scream at him—he ducked just as a blur of claws slashed where his head had been a second before. Another clone took the hit, dispersing in a puff of smoke.

Aryan retaliated, shifting tactics. He tapped into the heat of the battlefield—the energy radiating from the creatures themselves, the residual warmth from their attacks. He pulled it into himself, absorbing and compressing it before hurling it outward. A wave of superheated energy blasted across the battlefield, forcing the creatures back as the very ground beneath them cracked and sizzled.

The rhino-bear roared in fury, its massive bulk unshaken. It charged, the earth trembling beneath its weight. Aryan exhaled sharply, focusing his energy into the ground. Vibrational energy pulsed outward, amplifying the natural frequencies of the earth. The ground split apart, jagged fissures erupting beneath the beast's feet, destabilizing its footing.

The clones took advantage, swarming in with precise, calculated strikes. Each movement built upon the next, compounding the energy Aryan absorbed and redirected.

The battle raged on, a relentless storm of raw power and sharpened skill. Aryan fought like never before, adapting, pushing, evolving. His energy flowed freely now, his body moving with an efficiency he had never felt before.

And then, in one final, decisive moment, he gathered every ounce of stored kinetic, thermal, and vibrational energy, shaping it into a single devastating blast. He released it in an instant—an eruption of force that tore through the battlefield, consuming everything in its path.

The creatures didn't even have time to react. The explosion sent them hurtling backward, their monstrous forms crashing into the ground with earth-shaking impact.

Silence fell.

Aryan stood in the center of the destruction, his breath ragged, his body aching—but victorious.

Then, a familiar sound echoed in his mind.

Achievement Unlocked: Trial by Fire. You have successfully surpassed your limits and broken into a new tier through sheer combat prowess.

Reward: +500 MP

Evolution Triggered: X-Gene Secondary Awakening—Mutation Refinement Process Initiated…

A sudden surge of power coursed through him, something deeper than anything he had felt before. His body tensed, his cells igniting with raw energy. This wasn't just an increase in strength—it was something more fundamental, a transformation at the very core of his abilities.

Aryan clenched his fists, feeling the shift take hold. The wall that had held him back had shattered.

He had finally ascended to Tier-4.

----------

A sharp, searing pulse tore through Aryan's body as the final stage of his mutation completed. His breath hitched, fingers trembling as waves of raw power coursed through his cells, rewriting his very essence. The sensation wasn't pain, nor was it purely pleasure—it was transformation, something deeper than any evolution he had ever undergone.

Then, the system spoke.

Ding

Mutation Refinement Complete.

Energy Absorption & Redistribution Enhanced—Your energy reserves and manipulation capabilities are significantly enhanced, allowing you to convert the absorbed energy into a different type of energy as well as allowing you to harness and manipulate even elements or the environment at your will.

Aryan clenched his fists, testing the shift in his body. The very air around him felt different. He lifted his hand, focusing on the residual heat left from the battle. A flicker of thought was all it took—his skin darkened, shifting into molten metal, veins glowing like liquid fire. The heat didn't just surround him; he became it.

He took a step forward, the scorched earth sizzling beneath his transformed body. A second later, he willed himself back, his form snapping to normal as if nothing had changed. No delay, no strain—only seamless adaptation.

A slow grin formed on his lips.

This was more than just an upgrade. It was an evolution that rewrote the rules of combat. His previous limit had been how much energy he could store and redirect. Now? Now, he could become the force itself.

He raised his gaze toward the ruins of the battlefield. He signaled his remaining shadow clones to be ready.

Before moving ahead, Aryan decided to check his progress. He called out, "Status."

A translucent panel materialized before him, listing every detail of his abilities and growth.

Aryan studied the panel carefully. His power had grown considerably, but there was still a long road ahead. Along with additional ability from his secondary mutation his previous skills 'Enhanced Physique-X' and 'Enhanced Durability-X', seemed to have combined into one skill and evolved into 'Perfect Body-I' and similarly his 'Enhanced Mind-X' skill had evolved into 'Perfect Mind-I'. His 'Energy Sense-X' and 'Energy Control-X', seemed to have reached Max level too and thus it became 'Energy Sense-Max' and 'Perfect Energy Control', while his other skills improved too along with addition of 'Elemental Manipulation-Basic-I', which was probably the result of his secondary mutation. Satisfied, he closed the panel and took a deep breath.

It was time to return home.

----------

- Rajvanshi Estate, Calcutta -

With a thought, a portal shimmered into existence, leading directly to his room in the Rajvanshi Estate. Stepping through, he found himself back in familiar surroundings. The morning light filtered through the windows, and he realized it was nearly time for breakfast. Knowing he couldn't appear at the table looking like he had just fought monstrous creatures, he quickly refreshed himself in the bathroom before making his way to the dining hall.

His parents, Surya and Anjali, were already seated, the atmosphere tense but not hostile. He could still feel the weight of last night's conversation—the moment he had finally revealed his powers and his identity as Maheshvara as well as his earlier activities under that identity, to them. He had expected some anger or disappointment, but the silence that greeted him instead carried an air of contemplation.

Surya finally broke the tension. "Your mother and I talked last night." His voice was calm, measured. "We are very proud of your diligence Aryan, and your commitment to India's freedom and the people." He looked Aryan straight in the eyes. "But understanding and feeling of parental love is something else entirely. We now see the responsibility that comes with your power… and how dangerous it could have been, for you and everyone else."

Aryan nodded, guilt twisting in his chest. He knew his secrecy had been a betrayal of trust.

Anjali's gaze was firm as she spoke. "You cannot undo the past, but if you want true forgiveness for acting alone and keeping such a monumental secret, you must accept your punishment."

Aryan swallowed. He had a feeling this wasn't going to be easy.

"You will cook meals for a thousand unfortunate and poor people at Maa Durga's temple—by yourself. You will prepare, serve, and distribute them personally."

Aryan's jaw tightened. He barely knew how to cook for himself, let alone for a thousand people.

"That's not all," his mother continued. "For the next month, you will also clean and take care of the cows in the cowshed, regularly and properly."

Aryan looked at his parents, understanding the depth of their decision. This was more than just a punishment—it was a lesson. A way to ground him, to connect him with the people he claimed to fight for. Having spent years outside the country, detached from the realities of his homeland, he knew this was their way of ensuring he remained sincere in his responsibility.

He exhaled, bowing his head slightly. "I accept."

There was no point in arguing. His mother's word was final, and he knew better than to challenge her when she was determined.

Besides, he had no choice—he had to learn how to cook. And fast.
