Chapter 28: Skirk
"Giving the boy complete silent treatment because he's 'too weak?'" Noctis asked rhetorically, a wry smile forming on his face. "He was but a child who had fallen into the abyss!" You couldn't even spare an ounce of comfort because of your ideals?" His words oozed from the depths of his soul like a viscous venom. Though he didn't express it often, he truly did care for Childe. Skrik's words angered him.
"Comfort only leads to weakness." She responded monotonously her reddish-purple eyes quizzically scanning Noctis, "If he wished to grow stronger and survive, I believe how I treated him was necessary."
"Bullshit." Noctis muttered, his knuckles turning white as he clenched his fists tightly.
"Now If you don't mind, I would like to collect my master's pet." She ignored his remark and moved to walk past him, only to be stopped by the formation of electro energy as a solid beam. "We're not finished yet, Miss Skirk."
"Make it quick..." she responded, her gaze narrowing at Noctis. "First off, What do you plan on doing with the boy?" Her brows raised, for once showing a readable expression on her face.
"You care about him this much?" Noctis' eyes lingered on her, analysing her every move to ensure she wouldn't try to escape. In his current state, he wasn't confident in his ability to win a one-on-one. But that wouldn't stop him from doing some damage if she did try anything. "I'm simply going to express my disappointment at his loss and send the boy back to Sneznayah.
From his scrutiny, Noctis couldn't sense any lies within her words. However, it was difficult trying to read someone who constantly held the same blank expression. "Why should I trust that your words are true? I'm not foolish enough to believe you simply because you were Childe's master at one point in his life."
Her eyes narrowed with irritation, "I do not have time for these foolish questions." Noctis' head shook in disagreement, "I believe we have plenty of time." The sound of collisions suddenly began to echo across the strange dimension, "I believe Neuvilette and The Traveller will be dealing with your master's little pet for right now. That means we have a while." He responded with a cunning smirk.
Noctis moved slowly, walking towards Skirk, "For now I will trust you with Childe. However, I now find my curiosities aimed towards you." His eyes scanned across her body, "Quite the unusual appearance, not like the mortals of Teyvat... but then, also no divine presence like those 'Gods.'" From the corner of her eye she watched him carefully as he approached.
"I may not be as wise as my brother Neuvilette but, perhaps your linked to Khaenri'ah or maybe the abyss as a whole?" Her expression betrayed nothing, offering no giveaway to the answers he sought. Though, this only made her more interesting. "What do you think of Celestia?" She remained calm not a single clue leaking from her, "Because, personally, I hold a very large grudge against all of them." He stared into her eyes, only mere inches away from her face, but she betrayed no reaction.
"Are you finished?" She questioned, the same irritancies still staining her expression. "I truly can't get anything out of you. Though, that only makes me more curious. I believe you could be an important ally in the future."
Her brow raised, a hint of curiousness finally betrayed by her expression, "An important ally you say? What could possibly have you so sure." She asked, staring at him from the corner of her eye. "I'm not entirely sure, it wholly depends on the paths we decide to walk in the future."
The continues echoes of battle that littered the background of our conversation came to a halt, "It seems My Brother and Lumine were able to subdue your master's 'pet.'"
She nodded, "Truly impressive, They're worthy to be spoken to." Noctis' eye twitched, still slightly irritated that Skirk had not spoken to Childe because of his lacking strength as a child. "We should go over and have a look. I'm sure your master will be wanting their pet returned anyway." A silent nod was all it took before she burst off in the direction the echoes had originally come from.
Before Noctis space shattered like glass creating a rift leading directly towards the Traveller and Neuvilette. 'What an interesting ability. It's most definitely control over space.' He watched in awe as Skirk absorbed the narwhal into an explosion of abyssal energy, simultaneously shrinking it down into an orb of densely packed space.
Neuvilette's wide-eyed expression betrayed his confusion and shock as he stared towards Skirk dragging an unconscious Childe by his collar, and Noctis standing behind them.
The traveller looked equally confused her eyes swishing from where the Narwhal just was to the pocket of densley packed space floating just above Skrik's hand.
"What is the meaning of this Noctis?" Neuvilette's powerful voice echoed, his eyes swishing between Skrik and Noctis.
"This wonderful lady here is the kind master of our friend Childe. She's here to collect her master's pet." He explained, pointing towards the space in her hand as he mentioned the pet.
"That all devouring narwhal was just a pet!?" The traveller's voice boomed, shock echoing like an explosion. "Unfortunately, yes." Noctis quickly responded, memories of her recent fight against the narwhal flashed just behind her eyes. 'a pet...' Noctis caught her murmur under he breath.
"Would you mind me asking a few questions?" Neuvilette spoke, aiming his question towards Skirk. Her eyes scanned over him the same way the did Noctis and then swished to Noctis before quickly falling back onto Neuvilette.
"You may..."
Neuvilette proceed to ask many detailed questions, some which had already been covered by Noctis, who stayed silent to see if her answers would remain the same. Which unfortunately they did, he was hoping to catch her in a lie. Neuvilette also got additional information. For example, the name of her master Surtalogi, something Noctis had completely neglected to ask about.
Not long after the questioning Neuvilette seemed satisfied and Skirk left, taking Childe with her. The traveller seemed concerned but after assurance from Noctis she reluctantly let him go.
"Well that was an interesting day!" Noctis declared with a mischievous smile. "I can't wait to meet her again." He said cunningly.
"Noctis... Don't forget about Arlecchino..." Lumine reminded him deadpan.
"I didn't mean it like that..." He answered thinking back to when she had first appeared and the fact that he had gotten lost in her eyes.
"Uh-huh so why are you thinking about her still...?" Lumine said with narrowed eyes.
"Stop reading my mind woman..."
(A/N) Oh my has it been a while for this book, huh? Some of you may have thought I dropped it. Luckly, not the case. I just happened to go on unannounced break for this book. I really wanted to take my time and think about where I would take the two books. I still don't have a perfectly great image so chapters may not be frequent. However, do not fear the books are not dropped.
