Genshin Impact: Back From Teyvat - The Archon Follows Me Home!

Chapter 153: The Idol’s Wish

Led by Tony, Lu Chen and the others arrived at Starlight Entertainment's recording studio.

There weren't many people inside, but as soon as they saw the general manager and director walk in, the staff all greeted them warmly.

Tony motioned to the sound engineers to prepare the equipment, then handed a pair of headphones to Barbara.

"Do you want accompaniment or just vocals?" he asked.

Knowing this was an audition, the staff quickly got to work, adjusting the setup and bustling around Barbara.

Barbara stared at the headphones Tony handed her, then looked uncertainly at Lu Chen.

Lu Chen thought for a moment. Barbara wasn't familiar with this kind of equipment, and she didn't know any of this world's songs. So he said, "Let's go with a cappella."

"A cappella's perfect!" Victor Starlight took a seat behind the mixing console, looking into the soundproof room. "Nothing showcases a singer's ability better than a cappella!"

It was clear Mr. Starlight placed a lot of importance on this newcomer Tony had discovered. The surrounding staff all turned their curious gazes to the beautiful girl standing at the center of the room.

They couldn't help but wonder—just what kind of rookie could attract this level of attention?

She was certainly pretty enough to debut as an idol, but now it looked like she might also be a real vocal powerhouse?

That only made them more intrigued.

Lu Chen walked over and whispered a few words to Barbara, then stepped out of the soundproof room to join Tony and Venti.

He had already prepared for this back at home—this audition had to leave an impact. The goal was to win over Starlight's leadership with her voice, to secure support and make completing the task easier.

Barbara stepped slowly up to the mic. She cleared her throat gently and closed her eyes.

When she opened them again, her ocean-blue eyes were clear and calm. The nervousness from earlier had completely vanished.

Whenever she sang, Barbara became a different person. Focused. Immersed. Completely lost in the world of music.

She began with a gentle hum—simple and childlike, like a lullaby.

As that soft tune echoed through the studio, everyone wearing headphones perked up immediately.

Victor Starlight glanced at Tony and gave an involuntary nod.

"She has a great vocal tone."

Tony didn't reply. Eyes closed, he was already completely absorbed in the moment.

After the intro, Barbara began to sing.

"Dandelion seeds blown by the wind, carried off to lands unknown...

The north wind slumbers quietly in the forest, as all things begin to grow..."

Her voice was pure and ethereal, as crisp and refreshing as a mountain spring.

The song was a hymn to the wind—very similar to the West Wind Church's prayers—but Barbara had arranged it into a melodic piece.

"O wind that guides me forward~

Give me strength when I struggle~

Give me courage when I face injustice~"

Lu Chen glanced at Venti, who remained silent, watching the devout follower of the Anemo Archon sing with all her heart.

Lu Chen could almost feel a sacred glow spreading across Mondstadt, as though the wind itself were uplifting every soul it touched.

As the melody continued to flow, a quiet smile formed at the corner of Venti's lips.

"After braving the trials of the wind, seeds grow strong...

The wind quiets...

The seeds fall.

The seasons turn, the four winds never cease."

When the final note faded, the heavenly voice that had filled the studio disappeared. Lu Chen noticed many people around them wore wistful, entranced expressions.

Barbara's voice truly held a kind of magic—one that could quiet the heart and draw people into her world.

She had returned to her usual self, and seeing everyone remain silent, she looked nervously at Lu Chen.

He gave her a reassuring gesture, and Barbara finally relaxed.

"Absolutely..."

Victor Starlight's voice was the first to break the silence.

"Absolutely!"

Lu Chen glanced over to see Starlight gripping Tony's arm excitedly.

"It was absolutely divine!"

Lu Chen couldn't help but think—could they really not come up with a different word?

Starlight couldn't wait to keep going. "Just like you said. Her voice is clear and resonant—one of the rarest talents in the business. If we train her right, she could be the next Gu Cheng! Tony, you're amazing! Where do you keep finding these gems?"

Tony was just as excited, but he quickly waved off the praise. "No, no, no! One Gu Cheng is enough—Starlight couldn't handle another. Besides, I think there's still room to strengthen her voice. And we haven't tested her full vocal range yet. She might be able to hit some impressive high notes..."

As a top-tier producer, Tony was already thinking about Barbara's future development.

Lu Chen and Venti brought Barbara out of the soundproof room, and the moment she stepped out, she asked eagerly, "How was it?"

Lu Chen gave her a big thumbs-up. She had gone above and beyond—and completely won over the higher-ups.

Hearing that, Barbara's face lit up with a dazzling smile, instantly winning over several of the staff nearby.

"Looks like our idol debut plan's going to work out after all!" Venti grinned at the staff, who had clearly become instant fans.

Hearing them, Tony couldn't help but ask, "Miss Barbara clearly has what it takes to become a professional singer. Why must she debut as an idol?"

After the audition, Tony realized he had underestimated her raw talent. He immediately wanted to ditch the whole idol project and start developing her like V.T.

"That's true. Being an idol would be a waste, even if she has the perfect image for it," Victor Starlight added.

Lu Chen froze. Barbara's performance had exceeded expectations—so much that it had thrown his original plan off-track.

He exchanged an awkward glance with Venti. This wouldn't do—the mission required her to debut specifically as a campus idol...

"Uh... Tony..." Lu Chen looked at him, helpless. "We agreed from the start she'd debut as an idol. I wouldn't have brought her here otherwise."

"Really..." Tony looked at Barbara, still confused. He couldn't understand why they were so set on making her an idol.

"Being an idol is no easy job. It's not just about looks and dance—you have to package every part of your life," he said earnestly. "And in this industry, idols don't have the same status as professional singers. The turnover rate is brutal..."

"I know." Barbara's smile faded. She nodded seriously.

"But... becoming an idol is my dream..."
