Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Merciless
The night was filled with the roar of thunder and the pounding of heavy rain. People rushed home in a frenzy, some scrambling to gather their laundry before it was soaked. But the students of the Akademiya were a different breed altogether. In their dormitories, a strange sound echoed—a cacophony of monkey-like shrieks, as if the pinnacle of human intellect had regressed to its primal roots. Stress from their studies had clearly reached its boiling point.

Girls' Dormitory
Alice and Rhinedottir, the two infamous witches, lay on their bunk beds, lazily chatting to pass the time.
"Rhinedottir, how much debt do you still owe?" Alice asked, her tone one of casual curiosity.
"I had a classmate who's good at math calculate it for me," Rhinedottir replied, sighing heavily. "Just thinking about it gives me a headache. He said if I don't eat, drink, or cause any trouble, I'll have it paid off by the time I'm three hundred and forty-two."
"Rhinedottir, that's tragic."

Meanwhile, Elsewhere
After being offline for what felt like ages, Apep, the Dendro Dragon, had finally resurfaced. Since her last encounter with Yu, where she'd been thoroughly humiliated, she had resolved to wait for the perfect opportunity to devour him. However, her hopes were diminishing as Yu's power grew stronger by the day. While he still wasn't at his peak strength, he could already mop the floor with her current, weakened state.
Sure, she'd outlive him—she was a dragon, after all. But who knew how long that would take? In the meantime, her descendants, the sandworms, were being enslaved by Yu. Every day she delayed, their suffering continued.
A new variable had also entered the equation: the Scarlet King, Ahmar, had returned. Apep decided to join forces with him to take Yu down. It was her time to shine. Or so she thought.
---
"Hello? Is this the Geo Dragon?"
Yu was perched on a branch of the World Tree, fiddling with a small rectangular communicator crafted from its branches.
"It's me, Yu. What's up?" The Dragon's voice rumbled from the other end.
"Hey, Bro. You want a wife? If you do, I can deliver her tomorrow. She's a genuine Dendro Dragon—huge and hardy. Took quite an effort to beat her down, so you know she's durable. Don't worry, though. She's no match for you. Her strength's been sealed by Celestia, and her talk of destroying the world is just hot air."
Apep, despite her immense power, had met her match in Yu, an unconventional deity. His resilience and adaptability were unparalleled. Elemental attacks barely scratched him—he'd lose health only to regenerate instantly. Worse, his elemental skills and bursts could absorb the energy, flesh, and even the souls of his enemies, fueling himself in a seemingly endless cycle. As long as Yu had elemental energy, he was practically immortal.
If he ever ran out of energy, he could simply drain the Dendro elements from the entire forest, although that would turn it back into a desert. Not that he'd needed to resort to such extremes yet—his energy consumption during close-quarters combat, his favorite style, was minimal.
The only being who could truly counter him was Morax. Yu couldn't absorb Geo energy, and Morax's sealing techniques were his Achilles' heel. Without a way to seal him, however, Yu's immortality made him virtually unbeatable.

Apep's Lament
Apep lay sprawled on the ground like a withered cabbage, her eyes vacant. She had been ambushed, her plan foiled. Ahmar, the traitor, had betrayed her.
Meanwhile, Ahmar coolly declared, "I've always been loyal to Yu."
On the other end of the line, the Geo Dragon was silent for a long moment before replying, "Yu, just keep her. I don't need her." Then he hung up.
Yu kicked the downed Dendro Dragon. "You're useless. Can't even get married. What's the point of keeping you around? Mother, can I kill her?" he asked, slumping to the ground. Fighting dragons wasn't easy—it took days of battle and often altered the landscape.
Greater Lord Rukkhadevata handed Yu a plump Zaytun Peach, which he swallowed in one bite—pit and all.
"In most cases, Dendro Dragons are best left alive. But if you can deal with the elemental energy she'll release upon death, it's your choice."
Yu shrugged. "That's easy. I can absorb it."

Apep's Desperation
"Wait! If you let me live, I'll do anything you ask! I'll even… I'll even bear your offspring!" Apep pleaded, tears streaming down her face as she transformed into a voluptuous woman. Her beauty was striking, her sorrowful expression adding a poignant charm.
Yu rolled his eyes. Lately, it seemed every female creature he encountered was intent on reproducing with him. But he didn't need anyone's help for that—thanks to his partial control over the World Tree, he could create life himself if he wanted.
"No need. If I ever want kids, I can handle it myself. You, on the other hand, should return to the World Tree."
"Wait! I'm the ruler of the sandworms! Without me, they won't obey!" Apep cried.
Yu smirked. "You think centuries of companionship haven't bonded them to me? Time heals everything—and binds everything together."
With a final, heart-wrenching scream, Apep fell silent. Her massive body crumbled, leaving only her blood and flesh. Greater Lord Rukkhadevata observed solemnly, knowing that the mantle of Dragon Sovereign would not be lost. In time, a new dragon would rise, possibly inheriting Apep's will. She could only hope it would be more cooperative.

Aftermath
As Apep's body disintegrated, Yu's eyes glowed with a strange green light. A massive green dragon tattoo spiraled around his body, radiating power.
Now he looked the part of a rebellious spirit—white hair, tattoos, and all. Unfortunately, he neither smoked nor drank, nor did he sport an earring.
"Even in death, she's a nuisance," Yu muttered, his voice booming as he suppressed the dragon tattoo.
"Yu, are you okay?" Rukkhadevata asked, concern creeping into her voice. Her once-reliable son had grown so reckless, killing one of the Ancient Seven Sovereigns without a second thought.
Yu's expression softened as he replied, "I'm fine, Mother. Her soul is strong, but to the World Tree, it's insignificant. It's more like I've inherited her legacy."
Having absorbed Apep's essence, Yu's power had risen to the level of the ancient Seven Dragon Kings—an unfathomable force that even Celestia would think twice about facing.
