Genshin Impact: One Soul in Two Bodies

Chapter 10: Dual-Line Operation

"Ugh…"

Thud—

As the Wooden Shieldwall Mitachurl let out a final shriek and collapsed heavily, Kaito finally finished clearing out the nearby Hilichurls.

"I'm exhausted... That shield-wielding Mitachurl was just too hard to fight, wasn't it?"

Sitting down next to Wendy, Kaito was utterly exhausted; the Wooden Shieldwall Mitachurl had drained too much of his energy.

Although he was indeed very different from before, he hadn't reached the point where he could casually defeat Hilichurls.

Take the Wooden Shieldwall Mitachurl just now, for instance. He had circled and contended with it for a long time before finally seizing an opening to take it down.

Honestly, that wooden shield still gave Kaito a lot of trouble. Many of his attacks were blocked by it, creating a kind of poetic beauty, like the Musou no Hitotachi striking against it.

"No wonder it's a shield that can withstand a god's attack..."

Recalling all that had just happened, Kaito couldn't help but grumble.

"Oh, right..."

As if suddenly remembering something, Kaito turned his head to look at Wendy beside him. Wendy, in turn, stood up and moved to sit a little further away than before.

Finally, Kaito adjusted his position, then lay down, aiming for Wendy's lap and using it as his pillow.

"This is great!"

"A lap pillow..."

After lying down, Kaito was truly enjoying himself. Having a lap to rest his head on after such exhaustion felt incredibly good.

However, there was also a slight drawback: it wasn't particularly comfortable for the one being used as a pillow.

All in all, at this moment, Kaito felt both pleasure and discomfort, a rather contradictory feeling.

"Oh... his hair's messy..."

Suddenly noticing Kaito's hair, resting on her lap, was disheveled, Wendy lowered her head and helped straighten it.

After that, Kaito shifted onto his side and drifted off to sleep, lulled by the gentle breeze.

"Things really have changed for Kaito..."

"But this system..."

"What exactly is going on with it?"

Silently watching the sleeping Kaito, Wendy propped her chin on one hand, unable to stop herself from thinking.

It was clear that the changes in Kaito were definitely related to the system.

"[Are you still there? You damn system?]"

Wendy tentatively called out, but there was no response.

"It seems the system is experiencing issues... I wonder if its functions will be impaired later on..."

Idly playing with Kaito's hair, Wendy came to this conclusion.

What's more, she worried that even stranger problems might arise from the system down the line.

But there was nothing she could do. She could only wait for the system's next appearance, or rather, its restart.

"Oh no... his hair's messy again..."

Suddenly realizing the hair she had just neatly arranged was messed up again by her own playing, Wendy could only sigh and help straighten his hair once more.

"Mm..."

With a soft hum, Kaito, who had been lying on Wendy's lap, rubbed his eyes and stood up. He was well-rested, and Wendy stood up immediately after him.

"Let's go find Amber. I wonder if she's still out on patrol."

Stretching, Kaito looked around and muttered to himself.

Because it was almost noon, he wasn't sure if Amber was still outside.

Also, since he had already verified that his body was indeed different, the next step was to go and help her out.

Although he wasn't much stronger, he was strong enough to help deal with some Hilichurls.

But before that, he first needed to find Amber. He had forgotten to ask that question earlier.

But it was fine. He still had Wendy, so finding Amber wouldn't be too much trouble.

After all, Wendy could fly and was quite fast.

"Where should we look first...?"

"Never mind... let's just search everywhere..."

"Wendy's fast anyway..."

After a moment's thought, Kaito decided to search every area.

Of course, this time, Wendy would still carry him as they flew.

After all, if they walked, it would be far too slow.

"Okay... let's go!"

After picking a direction, Kaito had Wendy pick him up, and they soared into the sky.

Windrise.

"Just up ahead..."

Gazing at the pit from a distance, Amber quickened her pace.

She wanted to check the pit again during her patrol to see if any Mora or other items Kaito might have dropped were inside.

Kaito had mentioned losing his Mora earlier, and she thought it might have fallen here.

Even though he now had Wendy by his side, Wendy might not know about this matter, so she decided to stop by and take a look.

However, when she arrived at the pit, she found only dirt and some grass mixed together inside.

As for Mora or anything else, there was absolutely nothing.

"Seems like there's nothing... Could it be buried deep down?"

Thinking this, Amber intended to go down into the pit to check.

But just then, Kaito's voice rang out from behind her.

"Amber, I didn't expect to find you here too."

"Kaito?"

"Why is he alone? Where's Wendy?"

Hearing the voice, Amber turned around. She saw Kaito walking towards her alone, while Wendy was nowhere to be seen.

In her opinion, Kaito and Wendy should be together, but now he was by himself.

"Kaito? What brings you here? Are you looking for something?"

Although she was very confused internally, Amber still asked this question first.

"Looking for something?"

Stopping in front of Amber, Kaito was a little puzzled. He didn't understand what she meant by 'looking for something'. "What kind of something?"

"Just looking for the Mora you dropped, or... any other things you might have lost."

She hadn't expected Kaito not to be here looking for something, and Amber felt a little awkward, as it seemed she had done something unnecessary.

"Thanks, Amber."

"But I didn't find anything..."

"The fact that you'd do that for me definitely deserves a thank you." Without waiting for Amber to finish speaking, Kaito smiled and explained, then continued, "My Mora didn't drop here, though I don't know where it did drop, and as for anything else, I haven't lost anything."

After saying that, Kaito smiled again.

"I see..." Amber seemed to understand, then continued, "Then where's Wendy? Isn't she with you?"

After speaking, Amber also looked around.

"Oh, her? She went to handle a commission."

As he spoke, Kaito looked towards Stormbearer Mountains.

Right now, he was here looking for Amber, while Wendy had gone to complete commissions and earn Mora.

With Wendy's speed, she should be able to earn enough Mora to rent a place for a while before the day was over.

Honestly, being able to handle two things at once was truly convenient.

"Then aren't you going with her?" Amber also followed Kaito's gaze.

"She's really strong, and I'd just be a burden by her side."

Withdrawing his gaze, Kaito said to Amber.

Of course, the 'dislike' was a joke, but the 'burden' part was true. He wasn't strong enough yet.

"As a Knight, one shouldn't dislike people, so... cough cough."

"So, are you still patrolling? Shall we go together?"

"...Okay."
