Chapter 41: Chapter 41
Compared to the naturally powerful adepti, humans were still too frail.
But one shouldn't deny the value and effort of humans just because of their inherent weakness.
At the same time, one shouldn't belittle themselves or slack off.
Respect isn't something given by others, it's something earned through one's own efforts.
Only by achieving great things could they make the Geo Archon feel confident about entrusting Liyue entirely to their hands.
Keqing's gaze turned profound, as if she had returned to that day during the Rite of Descension.
Back then, a still somewhat inexperienced Keqing had asked the Geo Archon, who was coiled in the sky, a question that bordered on heresy.
She had asked, "You've protected Liyue for a thousand years, but will it be the same for the next thousand, ten thousand, or even a hundred thousand years?"
Even now, Keqing could vividly remember the shocked expressions of those around her the moment those words left her mouth.
To be honest, Keqing had been nervous back then too.
The Geo Archon was the shared faith of all Liyue's people, and every citizen revered him as if he were their parent.
But among all these obedient children, Keqing had suddenly emerged as the rebellious one, like a drop of ink on a pristine sheet of paper—utterly conspicuous.
After uttering those words, Keqing had even prepared herself to face the Geo Archon's punishment.
But to her surprise, the Geo Archon didn't fly into a rage. Instead, he gave her a deep, meaningful look and smiled in a way that was hard to decipher.
Keqing hadn't understood the meaning behind that smile back then, but now, after Li Pan's guidance, she felt as though she had grasped something something intangible, like the moon reflected in a well or flowers in water.
"Mr. Li, what will an era of human governance… truly be like?"
Keqing's voice trembled slightly. If there was anyone among the Liyue Qixing's reformists who bore the greatest pressure, it was undoubtedly her.
After all, she was the one who had vowed to break the status quo of Liyue.
Hearing this familiar question again, Li Pan instinctively scratched his cheek.
Why did everyone in Teyvat seem to ask such questions?
"Miss Keqing, before coming to Qingce Village, Lady Ningguang also asked me the same question. Do you know how I answered her?"
Li Pan chuckled heartily. The young lady before him was a big client, the kind who wasn't short on Mora. When dealing with such wealthy patrons, he was always exceptionally patient.
"Huh?" Keqing was surprised. She hadn't expected someone like Ningguang to ask such a question.
"Mr. Li, how did you answer her back then?"
Now, Keqing was curious about Li Pan's response to Ningguang.
While she wasn't particularly fond of Ningguang as a person, she respected her capabilities. And Ningguang wasn't the type to be easily satisfied with a vague answer.
The fact that Li Pan brought this up now likely meant he had given an answer that satisfied her.
Li Pan spread his hands. "I didn't say much. I simply told her that the future is something you must see and discover with your own eyes. The seeds you plant will determine the fruit you harvest."
Keqing pondered this. "Mr. Li, you're not planning to use the same answer to brush me off, are you?"
She could sense the evasiveness in Li Pan's words, but she also understood why Ningguang had accepted this answer.
That woman's personality was such that she would meticulously calculate every move in her mind, only acting when she was absolutely certain.
Li Pan's answer aligned perfectly with her nature. But using the same answer to dismiss Keqing? That wouldn't work.
"Miss Keqing, you jest. The answer varies depending on the person."
Li Pan picked up a jar that seemed to be made of some kind of natural ore and shook it. Keqing could clearly hear the sound of water sloshing inside.
"Miss Keqing, do you know what's inside this?"
He tossed the jar to Keqing with a smile.
"How would I know?" Keqing rolled her eyes and casually caught the jar, not giving it much thought.
"Haha, what's inside is a piece of the Overlord of the Vortex, Osial."
Li Pan chuckled lightly, his expression unchanged as he dropped this bombshell.
As expected, Keqing froze for a moment before her pupils contracted sharply. The jar in her hand nearly slipped to the ground, but she managed to catch it just in time.
"Why didn't you say something so dangerous earlier? Wait, where did you even get this?!"
Keqing couldn't help but exclaim, though there were so many things to unpack that she didn't know where to start.
As one of the Qixing, she was privy to certain secrets, such as the remnants of fallen gods.
The remnants of these gods still lingered in Liyue, and the Yakshas had paid a great price to keep them under control. But what she held in her hands wasn't just some residual energy, it was an actual piece of a god's body!
"Landorus pulled this off the Chi. It seems the Abyss Mages were trying to use it to control the Chi, but I intercepted it."
Keqing's heart sank. Her grip on the jar tightened until her knuckles turned white. She had suspected that there were other forces behind this, but she hadn't expected it to be the troublesome Abyss Order.
"Wait, why are you giving this to me? Answer my question!"
Only then did Keqing remember that her original question was about what an era of human governance would be like.
"An era of human governance… is one where humans can accomplish many things on their own. They won't need to pray to gods or beg the heavens. Ordinary people will be able to wield lightning and reach for the stars."
Li Pan's words slowly unfolded like a scroll, painting a picture that Keqing had long yearned for. For a moment, she was entranced.
"Can such an era truly come to pass?"
"Who knows? A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. If you don't start walking, you'll never arrive."
Li Pan spoke with a carefree air.
Someone like Keqing only needed a glimmer of hope nothing more.
Without that glimmer, Keqing would still press on, but she would be lost, wandering aimlessly in the darkness with no light to guide her.
The hope Li Pan offered was that light. In all of Teyvat, aside from him, perhaps only Lady Alice of Mondstadt could provide such illumination.
Just then, bubbles began to rise from the surface of the lake. In the next moment, Landorus emerged from the water, dragging a half-dead Chi behind it.
The Chi's body was in a pitiful state, with barely any flesh left intact.
Its bones pierced through its skin, exposed to the air. With a thud, Landorus tossed the Chi's body in front of Li Pan.
