Chapter 3 - The Birth of the First Monster
Chapter 3: The Birth of the First Monster
In the grey void, Lu Yu stood tall like a deity amidst chaos, carving out the boundaries between life and death.
With a casual wave of his hand, a radiant soul, resembling a blue gemstone, disintegrated into countless glowing fragments, slowly merging into the hellfire.
“Crack! Crack! Crack!”
The fire roared as though more fuel had been added to its flames, causing its heat to surge outward in terrifying waves, threatening to scorch everything in its path.
However, just as the hellfire was about to spread, a mysterious force confined it within a small space. No matter how fiercely it raged, it could not escape this invisible prison.
Lu Yu’s expression remained indifferent. The yellow burial shroud, responding to his thoughts, fluttered in the wind, spiralling through the air before encasing the fire.
The shroud gradually formed a sphere, and through its fabric, the blazing black flames within were visible. As the shroud interacted with the fire, a mysterious transformation began.
“Ssss…”
A faint hissing accompanied the changes. The spherical shroud sprouted a yellow ribbon dangling from its surface, while dark red blood began seeping through the fabric.
As the blood emerged, a foreboding aura filled the void, as though a terrifying demon had awakened, intent on devouring all life.
“So, this is the blood of that unnamed entity? Its life-devouring properties are intriguing, though unfortunately, I am invincible in the monster-editing state.”
Lu Yu murmured to himself as he observed the transformation, extending his forefinger to gently trace patterns on the fabric, as though painting a masterpiece.
Yet what he painted was destined to inspire terror in the hearts of all who beheld it.
The dark red blood became his paint, guided by his finger until it formed a sinister, grotesque, scarlet grin.
The yellow, spherical shroud now hovered mid-air, the eerie grin adorning it like the sinister caricature of a Halloween balloon drawn by a deranged artist.
At the instant Lu Yu withdrew his finger, a dark red halo appeared around the “balloon,” resembling the rings of a planet, revolving ominously around it.
Simultaneously, the monster’s data surfaced in Lu Yu’s mind:
[Terror Balloon: Two-Star Level]
Abilities:
Intimidation: An innate soul-shaking force that mentally terrifies all beings who face it. Those who fail to resist will be plunged into unending fear, while even successful resistors will experience diminished strength.
Life-Draining Halo: Absorbs the life force of nearby living beings to heal itself. Sufficient life force allows for an upgrade.
Hellfire Whip: Summons a whip imbued with hellfire, possessing corrosive and dark energy, to lash at opponents.
Evaluation:Excellent (Scales: Common, Good, Excellent, Perfect, Supreme)
“Ding! First monster creation exceeding the Excellent standard detected. Achievement unlocked. Rewards: Additional skill solidification chance and one-tenth of the Terror Balloon’s power. Please select the skill to solidify!”
“An achievement system too?”
A faint smile appeared on Lu Yu’s face. More skills were always welcome, especially in such a perilous world where survival depended on abilities.
Among the skills, Life-Draining Halo was an unparalleled boon—a godlike halo ability!
It was not only easy to activate but could also heal by absorbing life force and even progress to higher levels through energy consumption.
In theory, as long as enough life force was absorbed, it could propel him to the pinnacle of this world.
Sadly, reality demanded caution against overloading himself with excessive life force. Nevertheless, the skill was a remarkable surprise.
As for the system’s second skill…
After a brief moment of thought, Lu Yu made his decision and declared, “I choose Life-Draining Halo and Hellfire Whip!”
This decision was made after careful consideration. To blend into the ranks of this world’s powerful, he needed abilities as his ticket.
While Intimidation was a decent skill, it lacked self-defence capabilities.
In every realm, strength was paramount, and the Hellfire Whip granted him that edge while concealing the Life-Draining Halo as his trump card.
As soon as his words fell, two bronze lights emerged from the Terror Balloon and surged into Lu Yu’s body.
A peculiar force fused deep into his soul, embedding the two skills as though they had always been innate. With just a thought, he could now use them effortlessly.
Upon solidifying the skills, an overwhelming power coursed through him, causing his aura to skyrocket.
“So powerful…”
Lu Yu closed his eyes as the strength surged, radiating an energy wave that shattered a cup several metres away.
“If just one-tenth of its strength is this potent, what level of power does the Terror Balloon possess? And what is my awakening tier now?”
Uncertainty filled Lu Yu’s mind. While he knew a bit about awakeners, key details had been erased from public knowledge.
Still, he was confident that the power within him far surpassed ordinary levels.
Creating monsters above the Excellent standard yielded one-tenth of their strength. This was only a two-star monster. What if he created higher-tier ones?
As Lu Yu envisioned designing beasts capable of devouring stars and reversing time, his excitement soared.
Even a small portion of their strength could transform an ant into a dragon capable of annihilating worlds.
And the rewards for creating Perfect or Supreme monsters?
One-fifth? One-third? Or… all of it?
By repeatedly crafting monsters of superior standards, Lu Yu could rapidly ascend to the pinnacle of strength in this world.
This was nothing short of cheating.
Lu Yu chuckled at the thought but didn’t mind becoming a “cheat”—the thrill was unparalleled.
As the grey mist dissipated, the Terror Balloon floated to the ceiling, letting out baby-like giggles of “Eee-yaa-yaa.”
It began exploring its new world with curiosity, drifting freely.
“Why does it feel like I’m raising a curious kitten…”
Lu Yu sighed, unable to stop the Terror Balloon from exploring its surroundings.
After all, it was now his greatest asset besides the monster editing system.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
Just as Lu Yu was deep in thought, a rhythmic knock sounded behind him, startling him.
His eyes widened, cold sweat forming on his brow as his heart raced in fear.
For behind him…
Was the seventh floor, with nothing but a glass window.
How could someone be there?
