Genshin Impact: The Daily Life of Inazuma's Youkai

Chapter 66: 66: The Attention of 'Gold'

Khaenri'ah, the godless nation, the land of humanity.

A highly advanced state, it achieved industrialization while others relied on manual and animal labor. Automated, multifunctional robots—Field Tillers—rolled off assembly lines, powered by cutting-edge Ley Line energy with self-repair functions, capable of combat, farming, or transport unless severely damaged.

Khaenri'ah's people were Teyvat's finest. By Reisen Riou's ratings, Teyvat's average human was LV4, but Khaenri'ah's citizens averaged LV10, rivaling trained soldiers, thanks to their advanced welfare society.

Their prowess wasn't just mechanical or societal. Khaenri'ah led Teyvat in alchemy, with theories like Black Earth, Chalk, Crimson, and Gold coined by its scholars. Rhinedottir, recently titled "Gold," and her Creation Alchemy faction delved deepest, though the Mechanical faction, Khaenri'ah's backbone, outshone them, fueling resources and military might. Their Eternal and Perpetual series, still theoretical, promised power rivaling Liyue's Adepti.

"Lady Gold, we've traced the culprits," a Khaenri'ah knight saluted Rhinedottir.

"Who?" Rhinedottir was intrigued by the theft of Khaenri'ah's alchemy journals. Though not priceless, only 50,000 copies circulated, ignored by most citizens.

In Teyvat's "ignorant" nations, elites dismissed alchemy as parlor tricks, even in Sumeru, the alchemy hub. They shunned its knowledge. Khaenri'ah, godless, leaned on alchemy's wisdom for power, mastering it to counter natural disasters and monsters.

"Inazuma's Endgame Squad," the knight said. "We used Issue 72 as bait and caught their trail, but the ninja escaped back to Inazuma."

"Should we recover the journals?" the knight asked.

"Not yet," Rhinedottir said, recalling a persistent Inazuman requesting journal purchases for decades, always denied due to limited supply. As a former publisher editor before earning "Gold," she'd seen his letters.

She thought him a mere alchemy enthusiast, but now… "Those journals lack detailed data, and the Endgame Squad's no pushover," she said. "His name was… Reisen Riou, right?" Her photographic memory confirmed it.

"Investigate Reisen Riou," she ordered.

As the knight left, she mused, "I've heard that name elsewhere… Sumeru, twenty years ago, on the Honorary Scholar list. He published papers there too."

Something felt off. "Honorary Scholar, twenty years ago… journal requests, thirty years back… he's at least fifty or sixty. Or…" Her voice trailed off.

Rhinedottir, an Creation Alchemist, had undergone alchemical enhancements, extending her life. At nearly eighty, she looked and felt youthful, a mature Khaenri'ahn technique varying by subject. Her design aimed for "Gold," hence her title.

She didn't suspect Reisen Riou of alchemy enhancement—Khaenri'ah monopolized that tech. She suspected he was a long-lived being.

Teyvat abounded with them—Liyue's Adepti beasts, Inazuma's youkai, elves, and monsters like Slimes or Whopperflowers, living over 300 years unless killed.

"Lady Gold, we found Reisen Riou's data from the Intelligence Center, via our Royal Knight Ambassador in Inazuma," the knight returned. "Two reports: one decades old, one recent."

"Recently, a Ley Line youkai named Reisen Riou emerged on Ritou, likely an elemental creation. The Grand Narukami Shrine built a shrine there."

"Recently, Reisen Riou was conscripted by Narukami, becoming the Fifth Scribe of Inazuma's new Fifth Scribe's Office."
