Chapter 475: Results [1]
"Hmm, this boy is indeed a genius." Zhang Yi muttered to himself while glancing at the cloaked boy.
"Another one stopped refining!!" As if the cloaked boy's actions caused a domino effect, another one of the remaining participants finished refining and backed away.
His face was drenched in sweat while his chest heaved up and down, sucking air at a fast pace.
While catching his breath, the young man glanced at the mysterious cloaked figure with a competitive spirit in his eyes.
Just like the mysterious man, he was also a Rank 1 alchemist.
"Look, someone from the Rank 4 side is also starting." Just then, someone exclaimed out loud, causing everyone to look at the other side of the screen.
Unlike the other alchemists, the Rank 4 ones did not make any haste in starting their test.
They calmly analyzed the liquid in the cauldron. Only after they were sure of their approach did they start the procedure.
The first one to start was a young woman in her prime. She controlled her fire to surround the cauldron and heated it up to the proper temperature.
She did not hurry to touch the liquid with her fire as she knew it might start a timer on her process.
After she was done heating the cauldron, she finally touched the medicinal essence with her flames.
*Woosh!*

The formation shattered almost instantly, and her flames took over the procedure. With a confident look on her face, the woman proceeded without breaking a sweat.
Instead of following the procedure of the pill, she separated the different essences floating in the middle of the cauldron.
Suddenly, her expression changed. She solemnly looked at the mixture that started to tremble before her eyes.
Going against the nature of the pill forming to find the problem was a creative idea on her part, but she failed to calculate one variable in her calculations.
That variable was Control!
*Boom!*
Seeing the mixture going out of control, she tried her best to regain control of the flow, but the energy contained in the mixture was too violent, causing her cauldron to explode.
The loud bang scared everyone in the audience; they looked at the stage with pale looks on their faces.
As the dust settled, the unharmed woman emerged from the stage with a look of sadness in her eyes.
Fortunately, there was a formation protecting the participants; otherwise, the young woman might have been severely injured if not killed.
With a bitter look on her face, she walked to the side of the stage and watched the others preparing to take the test.
"What a scary sight!"
"I never knew that alchemists had to face such dangerous situations!"
"Same, I have a newfound respect for them!"
"I wanted my son to be an alchemist, but now, seeing that the poor woman almost died, I am having second thoughts." The civilians did not show any disgust or contempt for the failed participants like before but instead showed admiration.
First, they used to think that only those people who go out and venture in the wild to gain cultivation opportunities face the real dangers and are worthy of their respect.
But seeing this, they gained a new point of view.
Even Zhang Er, who was in charge of their test, looked at the young woman with a look of approval.
He took note of her before looking back at the stage before him.
Time passed by as more and more alchemists started to perform. The test for the first three ranked alchemists was close to completion.
There were only two alchemists left on the stage. They appeared to know each other as they exchanged provocative grins from time to time.
It was like they were challenging each other to see who would come out on top.
Seeing the two Rank 3 alchemists going at each other neck and neck made the viewers curious about their connection.
Soon, the two of them also came to a stop, bringing an end to the test.
"Now that the test is over, it's time to announce your results!" Zhang San descended to the stage and spread his qi sense through all the cauldrons.
In an instant, the state and details of all the 67 pills were sent to his mind.
Without saying anything, he simply waved his hand, and around 20 cauldrons disappeared from the stage.
"Those without a cauldron failed the test!" His words were simple and emotionless, but they packed a heavy intent as they shook the audience.
"To think so many of them failed. Isn't this test too difficult?"
"I haven't seen such a brutal elimination in my life."
The failed alchemists did not say anything upon hearing their results but silently clenched their hands in frustration.
Those who passed could not help but sigh in relief. The tense atmosphere on the stage was very nerve-wracking for them.
"Some of you might be thinking that the test was unfair or too difficult for even geniuses like you all, but being a genius at Alchemy does not make you a good alchemist.
Being a genius only gives you the qualifications to walk the great path of Alchemy for a long period of time.
You all are good seedlings of the empire, so don't waste your talent. This test was the most basic yet the most sophisticated test for each of your ranks.
I will look forward to seeing all of you become great alchemists one day." The old man spoke with emotions, stirring the hearts of the failed participants, reigniting their spirits.
"Now for those who passed…" With a slight nod of satisfaction, Zhang San turned to look at the remaining participants and announced, "…the degree of your pill purification will determine your final rankings. Naturally, the ranking would be different for each rank of Alchemy."
His words echoed in the silent courtyard like bolts of lightning. Following his words, another enormous screen appeared in the middle of the arena.
The screen showed three different rankings with empty slots. With a wave of the old man's hand, the slots were filled almost instantly.
