Chapter 665: Maze Of Heart

"Mmmm!" Closing her eyes, Elysia placed the forefingers of each hand on her temples and acted like she was focusing all of her attention on something.

Then suddenly she snapped her eyes open and pointed in a 'random' direction. "There!"

Noah followed the location she pointed at, and the smile on his face faded.

The place she pointed just happened to be the direction the firefly she saw earlier flew towards.

The corner of his lips twitched as Noah glanced at the innocently serious look on Elysia's face.

"Are you sure?" he asked.

"Yes," she nodded without hesitation, "and you cannot use your soul sense to look where we are going.

We came to this place for enjoyment. You have been hunting those shy cult bastards who like to hide behind veils all these years, and you need a break from all the blood.

So we will do just that and let the nature of our choices take us to their destination."

Wrapping his arm in her embrace, Elysia smiled warmly. The childlike innocence on her face made Noah's lost smile reappear. He could not say no to that unfair smile.

"Fine, fine! I will not use Soul Sene, but don't let us fall from the island."

"No promises."

With their arms linked, Noah and Elysia made their way over to the narrow bridge made of silver wires, bound tightly with thick living vines.

The bridge was suspended in the air, hovering above the strong flow of the waterfall that came from deep beyond the mountains and was falling off the floating island.

Crossing the bridge with some creaking and giggling, the two of them stepped on the other side. The isle was completely different from the one they had appeared on.

This one was dark…

Beyond the overgrown trees, vines, and brambles, there was a dark, jagged hedge wall twisting towards the heavens. The walls were so tall that no one could see what was beyond them unless they flew over.

"You are not allowed to fly too." And all of a sudden Elysia placed another condition before Noah, who responded wryly, "I don't think I can, unless I summon my wings."

Elysia nodded in satisfaction hearing his words, while Noah looked back at the maze.

Indeed, a maze!

But this was no ordinary maze; the trees that formed the path were pitch black. So much so that they seemed to be absorbing the light from the air. It was like they had stepped into an illusion.

Moments ago, there was plenty of light, and now there was barely any.

Elysia's eyes caught sight of something familiar.

A firefly.

And there was not just one; there were loads of them.

They were floating around the area, lighting up the path with their mere presence.

Noah, on the other hand, focused on the faint murmurs he could hear coming from the maze itself.

Exchanging eager looks, Noah and Elysia stepped towards the entrance of the maze.

"The Maze of Your Heart." Noah read the words carved on the stone walls at the entrance out loud. "Sounds weird…"

"Maybe we will face inner demons in this place." Elysia's eyes gleamed with curiosity and fascination.

"You know about the person who created this domain, don't you?" Noah looked at her with an impassive look when, "You should have an inkling of an idea what kind of place they had set up."

"I do." Elysia did not deny his words, "But I don't know what kind of domain they built or what kind of trials they added."

"They?" Noah looked over his shoulder. "More than one?"

"Four, to be exact." Elysia replied and took the charge. She said nothing more, and Noah understood she would not tell him until they left the domain, or he might start investigating this place out of habit.

'Come on, at least tell me what they made this place for.' Noah groaned inwardly as he took a step into the maze.

While he was feeling an internal struggle, Noah did not even realize when his hand moved at a speed that left a blurred afterimage and swatted a dark bug that seemed to be sneaking up on him.

"Hey, stay close!" He only snapped back when he heard Elysia's complaining voice from the front. "This place might try to separate us."

She was standing in the front, waiting for him to catch up.

Noah walked up to her and conjured a ball of blue flames with a grin on his face. "Let it try and see what happens to it then."

Beyond the stone walls, there were more walls, a mixture of wood and vines. Everything seemed to be alive.

"Did you notice that the air is getting blurry around here?" Elysia pointed at the turn in the middle of their path and one at the end. "What kind of fog is this?"

Although the fog was so low and thin that even no normal person would have noticed, Noah and Elyisa were far from normal. They sensed it the moment it appeared in their path.

"Soul Ensnaring Dust, I am surprised you did not recognize it, as I got the knowledge about it from you." Noah looked at Elysia with a teasing smirk on his face and did not even bother to put on a protective barrier against the fog.

"What do you know, I am giving you a chance to act cool in front of me." Instead of shying, Elysia shot back a smirk of her own.

"Yeah? Do you know that this dust is so toxic that it could make your soul hallucinate?" Noah chuckled and decided to play along, treating Elysia as if she was someone who had no knowledge of the world.

"Oh, is that so? How scary~" Elysia faked a gasp and leaned into Noah's embrace even more. "What would we ever do against such a thing?"

"Don't worry, this thing won't have any effect on my massive soul!" Noah puffed his chest out in pride, making Elysia stifle a laugh.

Hearing her laugh, Noah's eyes sharpened, and he suddenly pointed at a stick on the ground. "And that is a stick. It comes from a tree that is made up of wood that grows on a planet, which is you."

"Oh, shut it!" Elysia realized what he was doing and nudged him playfully from the side, but suddenly her laughter stopped when she saw the stick on the ground move.
