Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle

Chapter 701: Explosions

With his arranged 30 Explosive Fire Bombs, he certainly had the ability to be the first Zombie Killer. However, he immediately recalled that there could be a Zombie Leader lurking around.

If that Zombie Leader was smart, it could order a retreat if it saw how powerful they were…

Because of that, Tundra decided not to use his explosives yet and ordered the guards to just fight normally.

'Right… Maybe this is the reason why Shane wasn't joining the fight so quickly. He wasn't just resting… He wanted us to gain Experience Points and perhaps lure out more Zombies to loot.' Tundra mused.

Just like that, Tundra motivated the people as he planned to reward the first killer of the Zombie.

The order rippled through the ranks, and they were indeed excited.

A thunderous roar came as the first of the Super Soldiers leapt from the ramparts, landing with crushing force among the incoming horde.

He was too excited!

Still, with their metal armor and fists igniting with Aura-based strikes, they smashed skulls and tore limbs of the Runner Zombies who came first…

Apparently, the new type of Zombie suddenly slowed down after getting near the wall.

They allowed the Runner Zombies to receive the first volley of bullets and arrows.

Soon, the flamethrower units on the upper wall let loose with arcs of flame. Jets of fire engulfed the advancing wave, lighting the Runner Zombies and burning the tongues of the Licker-Siren hybrids who had decided to come closer…

This new type of Zombie was actually quite smart.

They screeched and retreated as they got hit by the flamethrower... However, there was nothing they could do about the gunners and the machine guns above.

They could only use their sound attacks to try and disrupt the soldiers. It was actually quite effective since even if the soldiers weren't dying, they were actually missing their shot!

"Tsk… The sound attacks drop our accuracy."

"What?! Is that why I've been missing so much?"

"This is bad… My Weapon Mastery is only level 5… My accuracy isn't that good in the first place."

"Just shoot at them! You'll hit something if you just continue!"

Indeed, the Zombies were getting hit no matter how much they tried to screech or scream at them.

However, if the brain or perhaps their Zombie Cores weren't destroyed, they could still move without issues because of their nature as a Zombie.

Furthermore, with so many Runner Zombies dying for them, it was actually not that easy to kill the new Zombie…

At the very least, that was the case for the other soldiers.

One of the Elven snipers exhaled, her fingers steady as her crossbow's enchanted bolt flew like a beam of light.

It struck clean through the temple of a triple-tongued zombie just as it began to screech.

Boom!

The head exploded in a mix of violet mist and black matter…

And then, across her interface, a system prompt appeared:

[ You have eliminated a Sonic Lurker Zombie ]

[ Congratulations! You are the first to eliminate Jumper Zombie, a high-tier zombie! ]

[ Hint: Only the first elimination of each Mid-Tier and High-Tier zombie can provide special rewards! ]

[ You can select one reward: 1 Instant Experience Potion, 20 Zombie Cores, 1 Random Giftpack ]

Then, it didn't end there. Surprisingly, there was another set of notification about the Zombies.

[ You have obtained information about the new Zombie. ]

[ Sonic Lurker Zombie:

Weakness: Light-based magic, high-pitched counter-frequencies ]

Resistances: Physical Impact, Ice-Type Effects ]

"Confirmed!" she called. "They're called Sonic Lurkers!" The elf shouted…

As a matter of fact, several more of them shouted the same thing after getting the notification that they eliminated the Zombie. However, only one of them was able to get the First Elimination reward and the information about the Zombie.

"They have resistance against physical and ice attacks." The female elf shouted again.

"Great! I will be rewarding you later." Tundra replied.

Just like that, the battle continued.

Mounted turrets locked onto the fastest zombies, cutting them down in bursts.

High-caliber rounds shredded mutated flesh, even blowing through zombies mid-leap.

Then, from the rooftop of the east turret, a single shot rang out…

Boom! An explosion followed amidst the crowd of Zombies.

"Adjust tactics accordingly! Use fire or mystical attacks against the Sonic Lurker. Do not you ice magic!!" He ordered.

"Again! Use fire-based attacks and overwhelm their hearing with counter-frequency bursts if available!"

One of the Warden Units activated its new sound module, releasing a piercing sonic hum tuned to disorient Siren-type enemies. It wasn't perfect—but it made the nearest two Sonic Lurkers stagger in confusion.

It seemed that it could use sound attacks but it wasn't invulnerable to it.

"Not bad…" Tundra nodded approvingly.

The tide began to shift.

With proper Zombie identification or data about it, the defenders were able to push back the horde. Sonic Lurkers burned beneath the flamethrowers, and others were shredded by gunfire. Their numbers fell fast.

But then…

A deep rumble echoed across the field.

It was not from their weapons… but something else.

Something approaching.

"It's finally here…" Tundra muttered.

Even the experienced Super Soldiers halted and glanced in its direction.

Then they saw it.

Emerging from behind the horde was a tall, hunched, and armored Zombie that was nearly four meters high.

It was huge!

However, it wasn't just that… Where a face should have been, there was a large mouth instead and three massive tongues slithered around it like snakes.

It was definitely the stronger version of the Sonic Lurker! It must be their Leader, General, King, or maybe even Lord Variant!

It walked on two legs, but dragged a third limb behind; it was an elongated arm with huge claws.

Its eyes… if they could be called that… were not eyes at all, but glowing crystals instead…

Soon, it opened its mouth wide—not to screech—but to sing!

"This…" Tundra was shocked.

It was a deep, resonant hum that surged outward, shaking the very walls of the shelter.

Dust fell from the ramparts.

Soon, a nearby damaged Warden Unit sparked and collapsed as its circuits fried by the frequency!

Although it was already heavily damaged from the fight just now, it was still quite scary to see such a thing happening to one of the Warden Units!

Then, more soldiers screamed, clutching their ears.

A few collapsed entirely, stunned and unconscious.

It happened so quickly that Tundra wasn't able to react quickly!

He had to stop it!
