Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Have You Taken a Fancy to Our Silent Marsh?
Master Kong, a seasoned Level 52 professional, stood before Marsh and his summoned skeleton warrior. His high-level detection skill revealed the skeleton's attributes, but they appeared ordinary—nothing special at first glance.
After all, Marsh was only Level 1. It was hard to judge the strength of his hidden occupation from such an early stage. Perhaps, as Marsh leveled up, the skeleton warrior would become far more formidable.
Master Kong nodded thoughtfully, waving his hand. "Thank you, Marsh. Keep working hard. You might surprise us all in the future."
Marsh bowed respectfully and turned to leave. The skeleton warrior trailed behind him, its clicking footsteps echoing eerily. The cold aura it emitted caused gusts of chilly wind, adding to its unsettling appearance.
As Marsh walked back, many students instinctively distanced themselves, unable to hide their fear of the skeletal figure.
Kevin, however, approached Marsh with his usual grin. "Hey, can I touch it?"
Marsh nodded slightly, granting permission.
Kevin hesitated for a moment but then boldly reached out to touch the skeleton. The cold, hard surface felt like steel, and the flame in the skeleton's skull was even more surprising. Instead of warmth, it radiated an intense chill that sent shivers up his arm.
"Wow, that's creepy," Kevin muttered. "Is it strong?"
Marsh shook his head. "Probably stronger than you."
"Ha! I don't believe it. Look at it—it's falling apart," Kevin joked, though he couldn't entirely suppress his unease.
Just then, David called Kevin's name, urging him to take his turn in the job transfer circle. Kevin waved and jogged off, shouting, "We'll talk later!"
Marsh turned his attention back to the skeleton warrior and silently gave a command. "Recycle."
A black vortex appeared in front of him, and the skeleton warrior stepped into it, disappearing completely.
The summoning space on Marsh's attribute bar updated immediately.
---
[Summon Space: 0/10 → 1/10 (Skeleton Warrior: 1)]
---
Marsh studied the details of the summoning space carefully.
The space served as a storage area for summoned creatures. Summoned objects could be stored there when not in use and summoned again whenever needed. Best of all, summoning from the storage space didn't consume mental energy, allowing Marsh to maintain his resources efficiently.
The current capacity of the summoning space was 10 slots, meaning Marsh could store up to 10 skeleton warriors. Injured skeletons placed in the space would also recover quickly. As Marsh's level increased, the capacity of the summoning space would expand, allowing him to store and summon an even larger army.
Marsh recalled the vision he had during his job transfer—an image no one else seemed to have seen.
In the vision, a colossal dragon soared through the air, roaring in pain. Thousands of skeleton warriors clung to its massive body, their sharp blades tearing into its scales. Each strike inflicted deep wounds, leaving the dragon writhing and screaming in agony.
No matter how the dragon struggled, it couldn't escape the relentless assault. The skeletons overwhelmed it entirely, and within moments, the mighty creature crashed to the ground with a mournful cry.
As Marsh watched, the dragon's once-majestic body grew dull and lifeless, its fiery spirit extinguished.
The vision was seared into Marsh's mind. It was a clear sign of the Necromancer's potential. With enough skeleton warriors, even dragons could be felled like cattle.
Marsh clenched his fists. One day, he would reach that level of power. One day, he would be the one to command an unstoppable army.
The job transfer circle erupted with light again as Kevin's transfer completed.
---
[Advanced Combat Occupation: Sword and Shield Knight]
---
Kevin emerged from the circle, grinning ear to ear. "I did it! I became a knight!" he exclaimed, running back toward Marsh.
But Kevin wasn't just any knight—he was a Sword and Shield Knight, an advanced combat class. The title alone set him apart from ordinary knights, signifying his elite status.
Marsh gave Kevin a rare smile and even a thumbs-up.
Kevin laughed, clapping Marsh on the shoulder. "Thanks, buddy! From now on, when we enter dungeons, I'll be your shield. I'll stand in front and protect you!"
He paused, trying to recall a dramatic phrase. "Oh, right! What's that line? 'If you want to harm him, you'll have to go through me first!'"
Marsh couldn't help but roll his eyes. "You said it wrong."
Kevin raised an eyebrow. "Wait a second… Did you just talk? Finally! I knew you could speak. Admit it—I messed it up on purpose to make you say something!"
"Yeah, sure," Marsh replied dryly, shaking his head at Kevin's antics.
By now, all the job transfers had concluded.
David gathered the students and led them back to the main classroom. Out of the 106 students from No. 1 Middle School, Marsh was the only one to acquire a hidden job. The rest of the group included 12 advanced combat professionals, 18 support class professionals, and the remainder in life-skills professions.
David was visibly pleased with the results. "Good work, everyone. The job transfer process is complete.
"From now on, your priority is to level up and improve your skill proficiency. Starting tomorrow, the novice upgrade dungeon in Xihai City will be open to all students.
"Those of you with life-skills professions need not worry. The school has prepared a Life Skills Hall where you'll receive specialized training from experienced instructors.
"In one week, you'll face the big exam. I expect all of you to perform well and secure a place at the higher education institution of your choice. Work hard and make our school proud!"
The students listened intently, already planning their next steps. The novice upgrade dungeon was the safest option for leveling up, as it only contained monsters ranging from Level 1 to Level 8. However, some daring students whispered about venturing into the wild zones instead, knowing the risk of death was much higher.
As the class dispersed, Jeny approached Marsh with an unreadable expression.
Kevin noticed her and smirked. "Hey, Jeny, what's up? Don't tell me you've taken a fancy to our Silent Marsh?"
Jeny's face darkened. "Shut up, Kevin."
Kevin laughed. "Alright, alright, I'll leave you two alone." He gave Marsh a knowing look before jogging off.
Jeny crossed her arms, glaring after Kevin. "What an idiot."
She turned back to Marsh, her voice softer but still firm. "Marsh, I need to talk to you."
Marsh raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue.
Jeny hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I don't care what everyone else says about your hidden job. Just… don't let it go to your head. Being a Necromancer doesn't make you invincible. You'll need allies out there, whether you like it or not."
Marsh stared at her, surprised by her sudden seriousness.
Jeny sighed. "I'm just saying—be careful. And if you ever need backup, you know where to find me."
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Marsh to ponder her words.
