Chapter 926: For the Curtain Call, The End of the World as we Know It (17).
The feeling of danger wrapped around him like a blanket of frost, seeping into both his mind and body.
He moved on instinct, controlling the golden blade he was riding on to dart to the side.
A split second later, he looked behind him.
An enormous groove filled with grotesquely mangled bodies and shattered rock had been carved in the ground below.
"Freaking hell..." He muttered.
This was not something he was supposed to be amazed by. It had nearly sent him on a two-way trip to the Othershore.
Although he had survived, he was now very sure that the lofty Devil floated a long ways above him was aware of his presence and had just tried to kill him.
'But what was that spell just now? An invincible blade? No— that was a spatial blade, similar to that monster, Stingè's spell.'
Cain's brows furrowed.
Dealing with creatures that could manipulate space offensively was never a fun time.
As he recalled, he had been killed in that battle as well.
'Will history repeat itself, I wonder...'
He cut a glowing arc through the air as his speed continued to increase.
Off in the distance, Aurora, the Blood Matriarch, noticed the existence of a second entity appearing at the site of her battle with this malevolent Devil.
Her brows furrowed,
"A fool that drifted over here?" She muttered to herself.
Suddenly her eyes widened.
A thin black line shot out from the ground and wrapped around her ankle.
Then it retracted, trying to drag her down to the ground.
"Go to hell!" Dressed in her battle gear, Aurora Bryne indeed looked like a warrior goddess.
Her halberd cut through the air with a shrill, ear-piercing sound, cutting the black thread away.
She glanced back up to realize she had been dragged rather far away from the battle.
She clicked her tongue in annoyance.
"Looks like no one will bother us here."
A voice came from behind her.
Her eyes widened as she snapped her head around,
"You..."
Floating behind her, wrapped in a shawl of shadows, Evangeline Bryne stared at the woman in from of her with a smile that didn't reach her eyes.
There was a moment of silence between the two for a minute.
Then Aurora let out a sigh,
"You are alive."
Evangeline sneered,
"What, you expected me to be dead?"
Aurora frowned,
"What's with the attitude? And why are you getting in my way?"
Evangeline chuckled,
"I just thought a brief family reunion was in order."
Aurora smiled coldly,
"We can do all that later. But for now, I have something important to do. We can discuss about—"
Evangeline let out a sigh, cutting Aurora off.
The shawl of shadows wrapped around her fluttered in the wind violently, like the dark arms of a dark, eldritch god.
"You've always been like this, you know. Perhaps it is your arrogance, a flaw of yours so innate, it is practically who you are."
Aurora's brows knitted together,
"This child... What are you getting at?! I don't have time to play games."
"Since you want to be straightforward, I'll give it to you straight then."
Her hands slipping behind her, Evangeline pulled out two wickedly curved daggers as long as forearms.
"I'm going to kill you."
Aurora went still for a moment.
Then she burst out laughing.
After a good minute of laughter, she went silent.
"Why do you want to kill me?"
Evangeline's eyes glowed a devilish red,
"Because you are the miserable wench who destroyed my family. This is revenge."
Aurora's eyes glowed with a sinister crimson light as well. With the red moon as a backdrop, she looked particularly terrifying.
"All I've ever done is take care of you and pour my resources into you, girl. And you decide to betray me?"
Evangeline chuckled,
"Turning me into the hand that takes care of your dirty work isn't taking care of me. Not even the gods know how many throats I slit because of you." Evangeline said calmly. However, the scorching flame of rage waxed greater in her eyes.
Her eyes narrowed as her expression darkened,
Aurora sighed, then sneered sinisterly,
"Alright then. But if you want to kill me, you better come at it ready to die. Just like I taught you."
Evangeline's eyes narrowed as she twirled her daggers between her fingers.
There was nothing else left to say.
The shadows around her surged madly, turning into dark hands that stretched endlessly towards her target.
"Petty tricks." Aurora muttered as she swung her halberd.
The sharp blade of the polearm sent out a thin line of condensed energy that exploded upon contact with the dark shadow arms.
Evangeline quickly closed the gap between them.
Their eyes met as they came face to face.
Like a skilled Hunter, she fucked under the blade of the halberd. Her body moved fast and vicious; like a snake as the tip of her dagger sought to thrust into the Blood Matriarch's side.
A layer of crimson energy surrounding her, th blade was stopped in its tracks before it could penetrate her skin.
Aurora's face split into a savage grin.
Evangeline's expression fell as she quickly pulled away.
Strands of silver hair, dancing in the crimson moonlight slowly drifted with the wind as the two platinum beauties backed away from one another.
"You are still as nimble as ever." Aurora said with a chuckle.
Evangeline remained silent.
Letting out a deep sigh, she began mumbling under her breath as she darted forward.
All around her, crimson magic circles bloomed into existence, arrows of blood shooting out of their nexuses.
"You dare fight me with blood?" Aurora muttered with disdain.
A terrible magic circle unfurled behind her.
Evangeline's brows trembled as she discovered that the energy surrounding her as well as the mana flow patterns had become unstable.
She looked up.
The giant magic circle had disappeared to reveal a strange half-moon mana construct had appeared in the air behind the Blood Matriarch.
It was as red as blood, oozing out a thick, viscous blood-like liquid.
Stretching an arm out, Aurora muttered a spell,
"Come forth, Blood Wraiths!"
The half-moon behind her scattered into countless drops of blood.
The drops of blood floated in the air motionless for only a moment.
Then they began to squirm and bloat until they stretched and transformed into grotesque abominations of blood.
The{Blood Wraiths} shrieked as she shot at Evangeline.
Taking in a deep breath, Evangeline stabilized her magic.
The {Blood Arrows} restabilized and shot at the {Blood Wraiths} at blinding speed, tearing the abhorrent monsters apart.
