Chapter 3: Chapter 3: No Longer a Simp (2/2)
On the dimly lit main road, every few dozen meters, there was only one not-so-bright streetlamp, illuminating a distance of just two or three steps.
In Qin Siyang's view, the only meaning of these streetlights was to tell passersby that this street was the main road on the edge of the Safe Zone. Other than that, they didn't serve much purpose.
Even the lights inside the internet café were several times brighter than the streetlights.
Walking along the dim main road for over ten minutes, Qin Siyang arrived at school.
In his past life, Qin Siyang had attended an ordinary high school in a county, and the school's conditions were not particularly good.
It wasn't much different in this world—perhaps even worse.
But he had no choice because, on the outskirts of the Safe Zone, there was only one school—Ju'an School.
Ju'an School covered twelve years of education, from elementary to high school.
Children in the Safe Zone's outskirts started school at six or seven years old and wouldn't leave until they were eighteen.
It could be considered a second home.
All the students at this school were ordinary people, and their parents were also ordinary people.
In the Safe Zone, where Sequence Abilities were not uncommon, there weren't many places entirely composed of ordinary people—they were mostly concentrated on the outskirts.
Anyone who could awaken a Sequence Ability would definitely move their entire family out of this dangerous and rundown border area to live in a better environment within the Safe Zone.
At school, everyone was at the bottom of the Safe Zone's social hierarchy, struggling to survive in the outskirts.
And among them, Qin Siyang's circumstances were undoubtedly the worst.
Because he didn't even have ordinary parents—he had lived alone since childhood.
If not for the United Government's policy allowing orphans to attend school for free, he wouldn't even know where he would be or what he would be doing right now.
Perhaps he would have already turned into a pile of bones.
Thinking of this, Qin Siyang felt a bit more grateful toward the United Government. But gratitude aside, he still had no intention of letting the government know about his God-Eater Sequence.
Following the dimly lit street, Qin Siyang arrived at the school. The teachers on duty at the gate hadn't arrived yet, and morning self-study hadn't started.
Every day, morning self-study was from 8:00 to 8:10 AM, just like in his past life.
Having just awakened his Sequence, Qin Siyang was excited, so he woke up early. Even after spending half an hour at the internet café, he still wasn't late when he got to school.
Qin Siyang liked school—not just because it provided him with free food, but because there were a lot of lights.
The school was the brightest place in the entire outskirts of the Safe Zone, with the best electrical system and lighting.
In a Safe Zone where electricity was expensive, this was a rare luxury.
The United Government believed that the hope of saving humanity and fighting back against the gods rested on the shoulders of every child. No matter what, they couldn't afford to compromise on education.
With better educational conditions, the new generation would feel a stronger sense of belonging to the United Government and the Safe Zone, making them more eager to join the fight against the gods.
The United Government also proposed giving every child an equal opportunity for education because no one knew which child might grow up to change the world and reshape humanity's future.
However, policies were one thing—how they were implemented in each school was another matter entirely.
The teachers didn't believe every student was worth nurturing, especially in Ju'an School.
According to incomplete statistics, the worse the living conditions, the fewer people awakened Sequence Abilities.
To this day, Qin Siyang had never heard of anyone at Ju'an School awakening a Sequence Ability.
Students like Qin Siyang, who didn't pay tuition and had no future, were seen as leeches in the school. The teachers didn't care for him much—even though they bled the school for far more than Qin Siyang ever did.
His homeroom teacher placed his desk in the corner of the classroom, an unnoticed spot—exactly like in his past life.
Before his rebirth, Qin Siyang had felt lonely because of this. But now, he found it quite comfortable.
At least here, no one would disturb his daydreaming.
While the other students took out their textbooks to review for the day's lessons, Qin Siyang rested his chin on one hand, gazing out the window at the strange-looking gods occasionally flying past the Safe Zone, thinking about how he could find an opportunity to grow stronger.
"Qin Siyang."
His thoughts were interrupted.
He looked up and saw a delicate-looking female classmate standing beside him.
"Oh, Li Jingwen. What's up?"
She finally came.
Memories of her instantly surfaced in Qin Siyang's mind. He would never forget this woman—not even if she turned to dust.
She was Li Jingwen, his high school classmate.
In his past life, Qin Siyang had pursued Li Jingwen for three years, spending those years groveling at her feet.
He would rather go hungry himself than fail to bring her breakfast. He did her homework. When she was feeling down, he would stay up late chatting with her.
For Li Jingwen, Qin Siyang granted her every request, giving her everything he could as an orphan.
He hoped to be with her.
But Li Jingwen never accepted his confessions, always brushing them off with excuses about being too young, needing to focus on her studies, and not wanting to disappoint her parents.
However, whenever Qin Siyang considered giving up, Li Jingwen would always come to him, encouraging him, saying this was just a test—that she hoped he would persist.
So, Qin Siyang firmly believed that after graduation, Li Jingwen would be with him.
Unfortunately, after high school, he found out that Li Jingwen had been with Zhou Yang from the neighboring class all along.
Zhou Yang came from a well-off family. Being with him was essentially an upward climb for Li Jingwen.
He still remembered the moment he saw them holding hands—the way Li Jingwen sneered at him,"So stupid. No wonder you're an orphan."
Now, reborn into this world, even though everything had changed drastically, most of his former classmates remained the same.
Qin Siyang didn't know if this was fate giving him a chance to make amends, but he was deeply grateful that he could see Li Jingwen again.
Because now, he could finally say goodbye to the pathetic simp he had once been.
In his memories, high school Li Jingwen had always been sweet and charming, her dimples making him fall head over heels.
But seeing her now, Qin Siyang felt only disgust.
His gaze toward her was dull and indifferent.
Li Jingwen didn't notice his change and instead spoke coyly, "Qin Siyang, you haven't brought me breakfast for three days."
"Oh, I ate it myself.",Qin Siyang responded flatly, unfazed by her coquettish tone.
Li Jingwen was momentarily stunned, seemingly not expecting this response. She asked in surprise, "Then where's my breakfast?"
"You told me before that you have breakfast at home and don't need me to bring it, remember?"
Only later did Qin Siyang learn that Li Jingwen had been giving his breakfast to Zhou Yang, using it to curry favor.
In other words, to be with Zhou Yang, she had worked hard too.
It was just that her efforts were built upon Qin Siyang's pathetic sacrifices.
Li Jingwen put her hands on her hips,"That was a test. If you give up so easily, how can I ever trust you to be with me?"
Watching her mix of anger and feigned innocence, Qin Siyang chuckled.
"If you can't trust me, then don't be with me. We're not dating anyway."
Li Jingwen suddenly panicked. Why did Qin Siyang, who had always been at her beck and call, suddenly seem like a different person these past few days?
But she didn't have time to care about that now—she just wanted to get back the homework he did for her.
"Fine, just give me my homework."
Qin Siyang took out three notebooks and handed them over.
Li Jingwen flipped through a couple of pages and immediately widened her eyes.
"Qin Siyang! Why are they blank?"
"Duh! Homework doesn't write itself. If no one writes it, it stays blank."
"You— You'll get me scolded by the teacher!"
"Oh!"
"You don't care if I get scolded?"
Qin Siyang smirked,"You never cared when I got scolded. Did you?"
Li Jingwen was dumbfounded.
She had an appointment to go over answers with Zhou Yang later.
Now that Qin Siyang refused to cooperate… how was she supposed to explain this?
Enraged, she snapped, "If you keep this up, we'll never be together."
Qin Siyang glanced at the classroom's wall calendar.
