Chapter 74: 《God-Tier Kazekage: Building》Chapter 74: The Battle Begins
Land of Wind, Ryugawa District.
In past mid-spring seasons, farmers would head to the fields with a mix of weariness and hope, ready to plant rice seedlings.
But this year, the farmers' spirits were entirely different.
Their faces were ashen, their expressions listless, and even the rice seedlings in their hands looked wilted and lifeless.
"How are we supposed to live like this?"
A dark-faced farmer in his forties angrily threw his hoe to the ground and began venting his frustrations to those nearby.
"I finally managed to raise a few pigs, but those bandits came and said we had to pay the Daimyō's 'Spring Tribute.' They took all my pigs!"
"Ugh!"
The dark-faced farmer sat on the ground and pounded the soil with his fist.
"I heard that because Mist Village's shinobi have been causing trouble at the border, we'll have to pay some kind of levy next..."
His face was full of despair. When Sunagakure had occupied the area, they hadn't plundered their wealth. Instead, they abolished taxes and distributed rice seeds for free.
But now, under the rule of this so-called Daimyō, while there were no taxes, there was no end to 'tributes,' 'donations,' and 'levies.'
They had taken all the savings he had worked his whole life to accumulate.
His stored grain was nearly gone, and there was still an elderly woman at home who depended on him for care.
The next batch of food was going to be a major problem...
"Why don't we just fight those bastards!"
The more the dark-faced farmer thought about it, the angrier he became. His face turned a deep red, and he spat out the words through gritted teeth.
"Hey... Brother Jōden, calm down."
"Didn't you see the gleaming samurai swords at those guards' waists? What are we supposed to fight them with?"
"Your hoe? Or my manure fork?"
Not far away, a long-faced farmer in his thirties chimed in.
"Our towns and villages around here were never wealthy to begin with, but those bandits have already been merciless enough..."
"You haven't heard, have you? Over in the neighboring county, they've even started collecting a 'urine donation.'"
"The officials there actually claim that urine has great economic value, and that everyone who pees has a duty to contribute. They've even started collecting it, so now people in that county have to sneak around just to relieve themselves in the fields for fertilizer."
"If they get caught, they'll have to pay an additional 'urine tax evasion fee'..."
The dark-faced farmer's jaw dropped slightly, his lips quivered, and he muttered, "This... this is ridiculous!"
"Our ancestors have been peeing on this land for generations!"
"What use could urine possibly have?"
The long-faced farmer sighed, stopped what he was doing, and leaned his plow against the edge of a ditch. He gazed into the distance with a vacant expression.
Then he said, "Those people claim that mixing urine with millet can produce toothpaste; they also say urine can clean stains and be used as detergent for washing clothes. And soaking animal hides in urine can remove the fur, making it suitable for leather production..."
The dark-faced farmer listened, dumbfounded, his mouth hanging open. He asked in disbelief, "So... the urine we've been peeing out really has that much value?"
...
At the coastal border of Ryugawa District.
A stretch of fine yellow sand spread along the coastline, with the vast blue ocean ahead and a towering earthen wall standing abruptly behind it, about ten meters high.
The wall was a dull brown color, its texture completely different from the surrounding terrain. It was clearly not a natural formation but rather a reinforced structure created by Sunagakure using Earth Release techniques.
Rows of stone houses lined the top of the wall, their windows all facing the coast.
In the center of these stone houses stood a tall watchtower. Any enemy attempting to sneak past its view would find it an incredibly challenging task.
"Report! Captain Pakura!"
"Six ships from Mist Village have been spotted northwest of the coastline, cutting through the waves at high speed!"
Inside one of the stone houses, a young Sunagakure shinobi rushed in with a look of urgency.
As he entered, the first thing he saw was a large expanse of pale, smooth skin—a back that seemed to hold the delicate wings of a butterfly, its muscles tight and defined, perfectly blending strength and beauty.
When the figure turned around, the young shinobi's heart skipped a beat.
The woman before him, in her early twenties, had an alluringly slender and curvaceous figure. Two strands of hair framed her face, which was both delicate and fiery, her cheeks flushed with a natural rosiness. Her snow-white arms were soft yet firm, and her toned legs were planted firmly on the ground.
"As expected, those bastards haven't given up!"
Pakura's frosty gaze added an untouchable air of elegance to her already commanding presence.
"Are the traps set?"
Under Pakura's imposing aura, the young shinobi quickly snapped back to reality. He stammered slightly as he replied, "S-set... set up!"
Pakura's brows furrowed slightly, as if doubting the shinobi's combat readiness.
But she quickly let it go. With the enemy at their doorstep, even an average person could contribute something.
"Pass the order! Everyone, prepare for battle!"
"The Kazekage has issued the command!"
"Annihilate the intruders!"
"Defend the border with your lives!"
"Yes!"
The endless blue ocean surged with waves crashing against the rocks and splashing onto the sandy shore, spraying white foam everywhere.
Normally, the occasional cries of seagulls would echo overhead, but the sensitive birds seemed to sense the unusual tension in the air and avoided flying over this part of the sea.
Soon, six large ships from Mist Village sailed with the wind, cutting through the waves and heading straight for the shore. On the decks stood squads of Mist shinobi with stern expressions. At a glance, there were at least several hundred of them.
On the thick earthen wall, Pakura stood at the forefront of the Sunagakure forces, gazing down at the approaching enemy.
The sea breeze whipped through her two strands of orange hair, causing them to sway, but her stance remained as steady as a mountain, exuding an aura of calm and confidence.
Gulp...
Some of the younger Sunagakure shinobi, untested by war, nervously swallowed hard. Cold sweat dripped down their backs, soaking their clothes. But when they looked at their commander, Pakura, a new surge of courage seemed to rise within them.
The Mist shinobi showed no intention of properly docking their ships. As soon as they got close enough to the shore, they leapt from their vessels, landing on the water and charging straight toward the beach.
In the process, dozens of Mist shinobi began forming hand seals.
"Water Release: Wild Water Wave!"
The rippling sea surface suddenly surged, sending massive, solid water pillars crashing toward the sandy shore.
Boom! Boom!
Loud explosions echoed as traps set by Sunagakure—explosive tags hidden in the sand—detonated in bursts.
However, the Mist shinobi, experienced in combat, had made the right choice.
They used a barrage of Water Release techniques to clear the battlefield, simultaneously transforming the terrain into a watery surface advantageous to their side.
