Chapter 16: Cheyra The Frozen Land - Part 1
The Fall and Rise of Cheyra
Cheyra is now the Polar Kingdom. But for a brief moment, it was green.
This is that story.
Through it, you will learn a little about Kujima—though knowing him fully is another matter. One does not simply understand a man who communes with God and commands God.
Once, Cheyra was a beacon of civilization, known for its towering halls of politics and entertainment. Then came the plague, sweeping away its people, leaving behind only echoes of grandeur. Some say the plague itself fuels the variants that manifest here. Who knows?
But the greatest legend of Cheyra was not its fall—it was what lay beneath its ruins. A substance rumored to enhance variant powers beyond imagination. Those born closer to Cheyra wielded gifts unlike any other. Radzias could make tools glow. In Cheyra, they commanded ice itself.
Tales of unimaginable riches spread, and the kingdom of Harden, hungry for conquest, set its sights on this frozen graveyard. But they did not know what they would awaken. Icego. A power slumbering for millions of years. Would they still have invaded had they known? Who can say? But their greed set the first stone in the war between Icego and Dixon.
No one foresaw the consequences—the ripple that would reach across universes, even to the TOP LEVEL realms. It was as if AI had rebelled against humanity itself.
Only two dared to enter Cheyra.
Kujima, bound by a covenant with the god Isaak, yet insatiable for more power.
And Judd the Great—though back then, he was simply Judd. His title would come a hundred years after his death. But that is another story.
The Journey to Cheyra
"There's no turning back now, Judd."
"You knew that the moment we set foot here, Mr. Kujima."
"I feel no limits to my power in this land," Kujima murmured. "As if I can do anything. Yet… I also sense a great sin in doing so."
Judd smirked. "Even your beard trembles, Mr. Kujima. I can see it. The air here—it's not just the cold."
They wore heavy bearskin coats, but even those did little against the deep freeze. As they neared Cheyra's shore, the sea froze two hundred meters ahead of them. Their boat slid to the edge of the ice. No stake could hold in this brittle surface. Kujima stepped onto the frozen land without hesitation.
Judd suspected it was because he had already accepted that they would not return.
They walked in silence. No wind. No blizzard. Just an unnatural stillness.
Then, the ice cracked beneath them.
"Someone knows we're here," Kujima said.
Judd nodded. "That's right."
The fractures spread fast. They ran.
"Kujima, throw your coat!" Judd had already discarded his.
Kujima did the same.
"On my count, we jump. If we fail, we sink and are forgotten."
Judd started running. "One."
They braced themselves. "Two."
"Three! Isaak, lend me your almighty power! I am the one who caused the death of Laenix!"
A red circle flared beneath them.
"Kujima, jump on my back! This is my field power!"
They leapt as the ice shattered into grains of dust. The force obliterated the frozen layer surrounding Cheyra. Chunks of ice, each large enough for a man to stand on, scattered across the sea.
Judd tried to propel himself forward—but the explosion of energy threw him backward, away from the island.
"Mr. Kujima! We're fucked!"
Kujima drew his steel sword midair and struck a floating ice chunk. The impact slowed his descent, but the ice beneath him continued to crumble. In one swift motion, he grabbed Judd and hurled him onto another chunk. The force flung him in the opposite direction.
Now, separated, they drifted away from Cheyra—unable to even see it anymore.
Judd groaned. "At least we stopped the ice from breaking out of control. Now what?"
"Now," Kujima exhaled, "we advance one step at a time."
They had no choice but to leap from ice chunk to ice chunk. Too fast, and the pieces wouldn't shift close enough together. Too slow, and they'd run out of ground. Each movement had to be precise.
The distance between them widened. Soon, they were on opposite paths.
"Looks like our ways part here," Kujima called. "Yours leads straight to the shore. Mine takes me elsewhere."
Judd clenched his fists. "I'll see you later, Mr. Kujima."
"I hope so, Judd."
