Godslayer: Reincarnated with SSS Rank Cultivation System

Chapter 169: Plotting to Steal the Fruits

"This fruit has a weird color… I don't think I've ever seen one like this before. Just where did you find it, Xiao Mo?" Wen Ran turned the strange fruit over in his hand, his brows furrowing slightly. Its skin was smooth and cool to the touch, glowing faintly under the sunlight. It was sky-blue, almost unnaturally so, and speckled with tiny golden dots that shimmered like stardust.

As he brought it closer to his nose, a soft, sweet aroma tickled his senses. It wasn't like any fruit he had smelled before—more refined, almost ethereal. The moment he inhaled it, a light tremble passed through his chest. His soul stirred ever so slightly, as if awakened by the scent.

"This... it's either soul-nourishing or spirit-purifying," he muttered to himself. "Either way, it's a treasure. If I eat this, I might even break through to the next circle of the Spirit Refinement stage."

"Wee! Weee!" Xiao Mo bounced in place, punching the air with her tiny paws. Her ears twitched, and she stomped her feet, clearly trying to communicate something with great urgency.

Wen Ran blinked slowly, watching the rabbit flail about like an overexcited toddler. "Are you trying to tell me... there are more of these fruits somewhere?"

The moment he said that, Xiao Mo's eyes lit up with sparkles. She nodded rapidly, her entire body practically vibrating with excitement before she turned and began hopping toward the dense trees ahead. Her pace was light but eager, tail flicking behind her as if telling him to hurry up and follow.

"Either that rabbit lost her carrot somewhere... or she's trying to make me rich," Wen Ran muttered with a crooked smirk. "Either way, I'll go check it out. If there's more of these, I might be able to speed up my advancement. Besides, they smell way too good to ignore."

He tucked the fruit into his spirit pouch and followed after Xiao Mo, brushing branches aside as he stepped into the thicker part of the forest, wondering just what kind of treasure this rabbit had sniffed out.

The forest Wen Ran found himself in was dense, almost suffocatingly so. Towering trees stood shoulder to shoulder, their thick trunks stretching high into the canopy, casting tangled shadows across the uneven earth. Vines hung like snakes from the branches, and every few steps his robes snagged against stray brambles. The deeper he went, the more the forest began to feel like a living maze—wild, untamed, and stubbornly intent on keeping its secrets.

At some point, he lost sight of Xiao Mo entirely. Her tiny white body blended far too well against the soft patches of sunlight and fluttering leaves, and for a brief second, he almost panicked.

That rabbit is too fast… Wen Ran clicked his tongue in irritation, immediately pressing two fingers to the center of his chest as he activated a probing technique. His spiritual sense surged outward, sweeping in every direction like a silent ripple across still water.

A lesser cultivator at his level might manage to reach one or two li at most, but Wen Ran's range extended an impressive six li—a distance that would make most middle-level Spirit Refinement cultivators weep with envy. His senses sharpened, and he quickly locked onto Xiao Mo's location, her presence faint but steady.

He darted forward with light steps, brushing past branches and ducking under low-hanging limbs until finally, a break in the treeline revealed a small clearing nestled beneath a rocky cliff. There, standing with innocent pride, was Xiao Mo, staring up at a single overhanging branch high up the mountain wall.

"Finally caught up to you. Seriously, do you ever think about—!?"

His words were abruptly cut off, his breath catching as his eyes followed the line of Xiao Mo's gaze. A thin branch stretched out from the cliffside, swaying ever so slightly in the wind. On it, five more of the strange sky-blue fruits hung, their golden dots glittering under the sunlight like specks of divine light.

But that wasn't the problem.

Also nestled along that branch was a massive bird's nest—made of bones, thick twigs, and traces of spiritual ore. A deep, predatory aura wafted from it, so thick it made the air feel heavy. Wen Ran extended his senses again, and this time, a chill passed through him.

A Spirit Core realm beast.

His eyes narrowed just in time to watch the enormous golden-feathered roc lower its beak and casually swallow one of the glowing fruits.

That piece of shit… that's mine! Wen Ran's expression twisted with a mix of greed and rage. His eye twitched.

The temperature around him subtly dropped. His killing intent didn't burst forth—it simmered, like a pot of water on the verge of boiling over.

I need to calm down… Wen Ran exhaled quietly, controlling the urge to clench his fists. I can't let that beast notice me if I want to gather the remaining fruits… His eyes narrowed as his mind spun, quickly searching through every trick, skill, and sneaky method he could use. Charging in blindly was suicide—he wasn't arrogant enough to think he could take on a Spirit Core realm beast head-on. Not yet.

But something didn't add up.

Wait… how did that damned rabbit get one of these fruits in the first place? His gaze flicked to Xiao Mo, who sat a few steps ahead, her little cotton-ball tail twitching with joy. She looked up at him with a proud, happy sparkle in her big blue eyes, as if waiting to be praised.

Did one fall? Maybe… but that roc doesn't look like the generous type. Hell, I doubt it would let anything touch those fruits even if they rolled into a pile of shit…

He rubbed his temple in frustration.

The gap in communication between them was starting to wear on his nerves. Xiao Mo clearly had some level of intelligence—no, not just intelligence. She was cunning, clever even… but her inability to speak or properly explain herself made every conversation a frustrating game of guessing and hand signals. Right now, Wen Ran was beginning to feel like he was trapped in a silent comedy where the punchline might get him killed.

He glanced back at the enormous roc, which had tucked its head into its wings for a nap. Even in rest, its aura rippled faintly like a slumbering storm, warning any lesser creature to keep its damn distance.

Meanwhile, Xiao Mo blinked at him sweetly, completely unfazed by the life-threatening situation just a few meters above.

"You…" Wen Ran hissed under his breath, squatting down and leaning closer to the rabbit and whispering as if he were scolding a child, "How in the hell did you get that fruit? Don't look at me like that. Use your paws, ears, I don't care—just tell me."

Xiao Mo tilted her head.

Then she jumped up on his thigh and lightly tapped his cheek with her paw.

Wen Ran's face twitched. He had the strangest feeling that she was calling him stupid.
