Chapter 340: Book 12: Part 21 – Ace’s Mutation
As soon as Muyan and the others left, she told Killian and the others that they needed to leave as well. They needed to head back to the side of the Divine Plane of Light.
Killian and the others didn't understand why they had to rush – Amira displayed peerless strength that no deity in the history of their universe could ever hope to match. Still, seeing the serious expression on their face, they didn't hesitate to follow her instructions.
They had only just returned to the other side of the Stellar River when Amira suddenly paled and coughed a mouthful of blood.
Killian was the first to react, instantly catching his brother's wife in his arms. He was just about to ask if she was alright when another change happened.
Julius, who had been forcefully maintaining their [Constellation Battle Tactics] for fear of another battle breaking out, suddenly collapsed, causing their battle formation to dissipate with him.
They didn't understand what was happening to Julius or Amira, but they realised that their escaping to the other side of the Stellar River really was the best decision. Without Amira and Julius, their side would've stood no chance against Muyan and his group.
Verano, the paragon with the highest attainments in the soul, casually explained that Julius' soul was mutating. He said that maintaining that formation for so long overdrew his spiritual essence, which triggered the start of the mutation.
Hearing that, the faces of Killian and the others turned pensive as they knew that, even though they had three people present who had successfully completed their respective soul mutations, one of which was a heaven-defying three-way soul mutate, the chances of survival didn't surpass 10%.
Seeing their expressions, Verano casually expressed that they didn't have to worry so much. Although survival was usually extremely difficult, the chances of Julius failing were less than 1%.
A light seemed to go off in Amira's head as she asked if it had something to do with Lord Orloff.
Verano nodded with a smile and explained that the Chief Sovereign of Fate had studied the mutations of the soul, hoping to gain insight into the process of creating one. Unfortunately, he wasn't successful. Still, although he couldn't initiate the procedure, he had come up with a method of protecting the soul throughout the process.
With his first and only disciple undergoing the process, there was no way Orloff would sit back and not intervene.
It was right then that Killian and the others felt the sudden presence of Fate-type Sovereign energy emitting from Julius' soul.
At the same time, in chaotic space outside of the Planar Battlefield, all the gathered Sovereigns watched in surprise as Orloff casually covered Julius' divine clone in his Sovereign energy, allowing it to seep into his disciple's soul, ensuring the smooth transition of his disciple's soul mutation.
Despite helping his disciple undergo what should be a life-threatening operation, Orloff's demeanour was still as light and calm as ever, causing his fellow Sovereigns to sigh helplessly yet unsurprisingly at Orloff's genius – it was as though there was nothing the man was incapable of.
Whilst most of the Sovereigns were watching Orloff, two were still focused on the events of the Planar Battlefield. The first was Augusta – he had half a mind to directly enter the planar battlefield and retrieve Ace and Amira to bring them back to Orloff to see if there was something that could be done to save the two, but he also knew that there was no way Phueus and Wodred would let that happen – they had only just about agreed to let Amira enter, and even that was only because of Orloff standing on their side. They wouldn't allow for any more surprises.
Augusta looked towards Orloff as though asking for his help. In response, Orloff subtly shook his head.
If it were before, Orloff would've moved to help Augusta out, especially as he was also interested in seeing what Ace would've been able to accomplish in the future, but now that he was helping his disciple undergo a soul mutation, that was impossible. He took his responsibilities as a master incredibly seriously.
The second person focused intently on the Planar Battlefield was none other than Leylin, also known as Blue Fire.
Because of the level of talent that Ace had displayed from such an early age and the fact that he hadn't been around for the early stages of Ace's life, Leylin Gol had never been able to do much for his monstrous grandson, but that didn't stop him from loving him.
Seeing life slowly fading from Ace's body, Blue Fire moved to enter the Planar Battlefield. Only to be quickly stopped by Beirut, preventing Muyan from doing so with what would've undoubtedly been a much heavier hand.
Blue Fire ordered Beirut to move aside so he could save his grandson. Beirut told Leylin that even if he entered, there was nothing that he could do for Ace now with his Divine Spark cracked. In response, Blue Fire shocked everyone by saying that since Ace's was damaged, he could have his.
It had to be understood that a Sovereign Spark wasn't like other Divine Sparks. As a Sovereign, one could forcefully remove their bond, but that would kill said Sovereign.
They had no idea if that would work, but seeing the resolute look in Blue Fire's eyes, whether it was Muyan or Wodred, neither of them was willing to let the man go through with the plan. Ace was already a freak of nature, the likes of which had never been seen before and likely will never be seen again.
Although it was just a Lesser Sovereign Spark, they wouldn't allow Ace even the slightest chance at reaching their level and potentially threatening their power.
Things got seemingly tense in chaotic space when Orloff's ever-calm voice told Blue Fire that he might not need to sacrifice himself to save his grandson and that they should all look closely at Ace's divine spark; a change was happening inside him.
At the same time, back in the Planar Battlefield, realising that Julius' condition had stabilised, everyone's focus returned to Amira and Ace, who had been laid down beside her.
It was then that Amira explained that after Ace informed her, via their bond, that he was about to fight Muyan prematurely, she hurriedly got Augusta to deliver her to the Planar Battlefield. Although she was delayed slightly, she was ultimately allowed in.
Unfortunately, it was too late to prevent Lozarn's Divine Ability from damaging Ace's Divine Spark, but whilst she was hurrying to their location, a change suddenly occurred in her.
It had to be remembered that as soulmates, although Ace and Amira had inherited the other's respective bloodline, it was a watered-down version. Ace's Golden Sun Manifestation was vastly inferior to Amira's Angel Manifestation, and likewise, although Amira could use [Observation and Armament Haki], she was unable to use [Conqueror's Haki] or the incredibly powerful Divine Ability.
But shortly after Ace was struck, a change happened in her soul. She didn't know how or why, but she suddenly gained "the qualities of a queen."
After dealing with the Paragon of Darkness preparing to kill Leona and Ace and making her way to the main battlefield, she remembered how Ace told her that he was able to charge his Visual Manifestation with his Willpower, making it evolve temporarily.
When used on her own manifestation, it gave her the ability to create a drop of Sovereign Power, but as her Manifestation made her a soul mutate, her Sovereign Power wasn't Wind or Light-type Sovereign Power but fused Sovereign Power.
Her sudden transformation apparently only became possible because Ace was silently undergoing a transformation of his own.
When his Divine Spark was cracked by Lozarn's Divine Ability, somehow, Ace subconsciously began fusing his Golden Sun Manifestation, which was originally located in his spiritual sea, with his cracked Divine Spark, causing it to start to transform.
It was that change that Orloff and the other Sovereigns were now focusing on.
Unfortunately, not only was the transformation incredibly slow, but it was also a question of whether or not it would even be survivable. Ace was forcing his Visual Manifestation out of his soul and into his divine spark. The amount of strain his soul was under was unprecedented – Ace was truly in unchartered territory now.
The fact that there was a chance that Ace could survive was incredible, but looking at Amira's condition, Alissa couldn't help but ask if Amira was going to be alright.
Amira sighed and said, as soulmates who had consummated their bond, she suspected their talents were innately tied to one another; as such, when Ace's Visual Manifestation began its transformation, it must've triggered her Haki to evolve.
Unfortunately, although she could feel her transformation was far from stable, she couldn't afford not to use it.
When asked again if she was going to be alright, Amira sighed and said that it would depend on Ace.
Right now, she was facing the backlash of using a power that was far from stable. If Ace manages to survive the transformation, she suspects that she too would live and be able to stabilise her own condition, making a full recovery. But if Ace fails, then as his soulmate, she would die as well.
