Chapter 27: Sothoryos 27
Sothoryos XXII
Two swords clashed hard before they moved away. Commanded by the hands of their users, they came closer once more, clashing and sliding by a few centimeters, resulting in sparks flying to the sides. A greatsword with a golden blade and a bastard sword that had a silver blade but glowed slightly blue, as if it were ice. Both clashed again and again while their users seemed to dance with death in every movement, trying to outdo the other, dodging, blocking in different directions.
These two fighters were Jon and Mardrack.
After what happened with the Wyvern, Jon could finally start fighting with all his strength. After the incident, he spent several days without walking, in order to better recover. Finally after ten days, he began to walk, just when they celebrated his maturation ceremony. He was faster than expected, something that surprised Naisha, who had mentioned to him that, perhaps, he could not walk for a moon. And in fact, Caelyb also commented that it was a fairly quick recovery.
Mardrack nodded to himself as he saw that Jon could fight him without problems in his body. Although, there was something that was catching his attention: Jon was stronger than he was supposed to be. It was true that Jon's progress, for a human who had no knowledge of magic, and little of sword techniques and fighting, was quite remarkable. However, now his blows were really powerful, being able to resist the full force of a man like Mardrack, even making him retreat on some occasions.
Mardrack looked closely at Jon's sword, which had surrounded itself with flames before attacking.
"Good! It seems that you already use magic efficiently!"
Jon smiled, knowing that this was due to the system. Using his special elemental cutting ability was extremely easy. It drained him a little, but he didn't even need to recite verbal or mental spells. He simply needed to think about using the ability and it would activate according to the element he wanted to use.
Mardrack's greatsword clashed hard and extinguished the flames like a small candle flame being blown out. Jon grimaced at that and recited a body-strengthening spell: Light Fortitude, to withstand all the weight that came with his master's sword.
Mardrack's eyebrows rose sharply as he felt the resistance. The slight orange glow indicated the use of the Light Fortitude spell, but he felt that the resistance was equivalent to the higher-ranked spell above Light Fortitude: Heavy Fortitude. And also, his disciple did not display such bulging musculature.
Whether it was Light Fortitude or Heavy Fortitude, using them allowed for increased muscle density and the toughness of skin and blood vessels; that way, you could withstand powerful blows without too much trouble. The only difference, and what made a spell a higher rank, was the density it could increase. But, in order to use these spells, you needed proper training of the body and magic, so as not to damage the body.
"It's a shame that even if he had used such spells, he would still have been injured by the Wyvern. Perhaps, he would have even been more seriously injured."
At that moment, Jon had withstood a great weight as an immense force coursed through his body. If he had used something like light strength, perhaps his bones would have been crushed more than they were.
Magic can do wonderful things, but it is not all-powerful, nor the solution to all things.
"Jon, can you come closer for a moment?"
"Huh?" Jon, who was about to attack again, stopped in confusion. He looked at Mardrack, who had relaxed a little and nodded. When he arrived in front of his master, the latter raised his hand that was glowing slightly and placed it on his chest as he closed his eyes.
"Mm... How interesting. Your skin has become more resilient. The density of your muscles has increased, while your bones are as hard as iron. Interesting, but also strange...", Mardrack frowned slightly before opening his eyes and looking at Jon, "Tell me, Jon, are you sure you didn't receive anything else from Lord Ingwi?"
"No...", Jon replied, tilting his head slightly. "He simply told me a few things before and after gifting me a piece of the antler of his incarnation, Duraprors."
"Your body has improved greatly in a short time. It's as if you've undergone a transformation."
"Transformation?"
"Your body is not the same anymore. Maybe you don't feel much of a difference, or you just attribute it to constant training, but it's definitely not normal. We should check your body better."
"I... see... Maybe Caelyb knows something."
"That's a possibility. The Great Old One has lived for more than ten thousand years. He's seen ages and a lot of interesting things."
"We'll go immediately, since I don't want to see you in trouble for something that could be serious."
Jon just nodded and followed Mardrack. But, at that moment, he opened the system to see his status. He thought that, perhaps, there is something that sheds light on what was happening with his body.

It didn't take long for Jon to notice that a new special trait had appeared in the category of his Targaryen blood. He stared at it for a few seconds, puzzled that this happened. In all the time he had had the system, he had never gotten anything new on its features, even when using spells. He narrowed his eyes a little at that part and a description immediately emerged.
Reading carefully, Jon had to bite his lip a little to keep from gasping or choking on his own saliva and drawing the attention of Mardrack, who was walking several steps ahead of him.
[Minor Dragon Physiology]
[Description: An imitation of what a dragon's body might look like. Your skin is still soft, but it is much tougher. The density of the muscles has increased, while the bones become as strong as iron. Altogether, you get more durability and power]
"How? How did I get something like this? System, I need answers," Jon said in his mind, waiting for some response from his system. And so it was, just two seconds later, when a window appeared in front of his eyes.
[It has been mentioned before that the limits on the user's body and mind have been removed when you accepted the system. With proper training, you can improve without stopping. However, constant exposure to magic, near-death danger, and subsequent recovery caused your body to undergo changes. The result is the lesser dragon physiology.]
"Does that mean it can continue to evolve? I mean the trait."
[Impossible. While the host's limits have been removed, the system cannot change important things about the host out of thin air. The new trait, due to magic, training, and exposure to danger, made your body become stronger. For that reason, dragon physiology is a lesser imitation of what a dragon's body could be.]
[If you had the true physiology of a dragon in a human form, you would cease to be a human. You would not be human, but you would not be a dragon either. The system cannot change the race of the host.]
Jon instantly felt relieved. He did not want to stop being human.
. . .
"Interesting! Very interesting!" Caelyb said as he checked Jon's body, using magic. "It's like your body gets stronger after being damaged."
"Isn't that the same with everyone?" Jon asked, feigning confusion. "The body generates countermeasures when it gets sick. Or when it tries to repair something."
"Don't be silly. Those are the body's natural defenses. Here, it's like you've literally evolved slightly. In fact, I think if you continue like this, you might get a kind of slow aging."
"That's... a bit bad. It'll take me longer to get to my optimal form."
"Don't worry. You'll still age, but at some point, you'll look younger than your kind. After all, your body is superior to any human living in this era."
"So... is he a superior human?" Mardrack asked curiously.
"Huh? That's not a bad term. Yes. In fact, it's fitting. Who knows, maybe you can pass your genes on to your children. Congratulations, Jon! Maidens in Westeros will faint and wet themselves when you walk in front of them!"
Jon rolled his eyes at Caelyb's joke. Although, he might have a point about the genes. Lesser dragon physiology had become a special trait of his Targaryen blood, and there's a chance that a future son could become as strong as he is currently.
"Can I get back to training? I think I've dealt with Caelyb enough for one day."
"Cheeky brat."
"I've learned from the best."
Mardrack sighed and motioned to Jon that they would be right back. He didn't want to deal with arguments or jokes right now, especially when the Great Old One was involved in such things.
