Gourmet Hunter (HxH Fanfic)

Chapter 140: Chapter 140 Regrets

By breaking free from conventional values, many things can be considered treasures.

It may sound exaggerated, but for the Hunter x Hunter World, Buddha Jumps Over the Wall is a trculinary treasure, unparalleled in its uniqueness.

It is a treasure brought into this world by someone who doesn't belong here.

Feitan didn't realize what he was missing as he left Uvogin's house in a very annoyed mood.

Had he brought his sword, he wouldn't have resisted testing Law's strength.

With Feitan gone, the spear and shield had separated, and the tension in the room eased.

In less than an hour since reuniting, Chrollo and the others had witnessed the obvious changes in Law after being away for several months.

Machi, Uvogin and Nobunaga did not mention the matter of letting Law join the Troupe again. Without saying a word, they seemed to have reached a consensus.

If Law doesn't want to join the Troupe in the future, they will just defeat him once even if it means a round-robin battle, as the conditions mentioned by Law can be achieved then.

While waiting for the Buddha Jumps Over the Wall to finish cooking, Law faced a barrage of questions from Machi and the others. He chose to share select stories from the past few months.

When Law talked about the reef racing and the clam gambling, he casually pulled out the necklace with the purple pearl and gave it to Machi in front of everyone.

It doesn't matter whether he gave it early or late. Since this matter happened to be mentioned, Law just took them out.

There was no special occasion or hidden agenda behind the gesture, and it wasn't a confession of love it wasn't a confession of love.

Law certainly has a good impression of Machi, and he also has memories of Machi when she grew up, but Machi wasn't even fourteen yet, so his feelings leaned more toward care than romance.

The pearl knot necklace, though slightly crude in craftsmanship, was exquisite enough to draw everyone's attention as soon as it was taken out. Only Sanbica, who is already aware of its existence, showed little surprise.

Jewelry like pearls is a rare commodity in Meteor City.

While most of them had never seen real pearls, they understood their value. Yet, in these people's eyes, pearls might not be as enticing as a piece of meat.

Uvogin, for instance, was already calculating how many meals this necklace could buy.

A typical young girl might feel shy being gifted something in front of so many people, but not Machi.

She accepted the pearl necklace outright and bluntly asked, "How much is it worth?"

Law chuckled bitterly when he heard this, and the scene of Machi taking away his necklace back then suddenly popped up in his mind. At that time, Machi might not know the value of jade, but she took it because she thought she could exchange it for some money.

"I'm not sure how much it's worth, but definitely a lot." He knew that Machi was serious about this question, so he answered seriously.

After hearing what Law said, Machi happily put the necklace away.

If he had given Machi some practical gifts, such as clothes and shoes, she might've been equally pleased in a different way.

"Where are our shares?" Seeing that Law gave Machi a valuable necklace, Uvogin and Nobunaga were immediately dissatisfied.

"You want pearls too?" Law looked at the two of them with a slightly surprised look.

Nobunaga asked without hesitation: "Why not?"

While Uvogin was imagining how much food pearls could buy, Nobunaga was thinking of trading them for a good sword.

Uvogin stared at Law eagerly, hoping that Law would take out another big pearl from his pocket.

Seeing this, Chrollo and Pakunoda shook their heads slightly, finding the two's antics exasperating.

Looking at the expectant expressions of Uvogin and Nobunaga, as if they wouldn't let it go without a proper answer, Law could only sighed.

"Fine."

Under their watchful eyes, he reached into his pocket, appearing to rummage for something. With a clenched fist, he pulled out his hand.

Upon seeing this, Uvogin and Nobunaga leaned in eagerly and stretched out their hands like children preparing to receive candy on Halloween.

Law extended his fist over their palms and dropped two pearls the size of steel balls into each of their hands.

Uvogin and Nobunaga stared blankly at the small pearls in their palms, then subconsciously looked up at the pearl necklace in Machi's hand. After exchanging a look, they suddenly lunged at Law.

Their action was so sudden that Law didn't have time to react and was held by Uvogin, while Nobunaga crouched and search him.

"What the hell are you doing!?" Law glared at Nobunaga.

"Isn't it obvious?" Nobunaga responded casually and continued to search him.

"Machi, help me deal with these lunatics!" Law called for assistance, but Machi ignored him entirely.

Desperate, Law turned to Sanbica and said seriously: "You know what you wanted to do earlier? Now's the time."

Sanbica understood exactly what Law meant but turned her head away, pretending not to notice. As for Chrollo and the others, they were just watching the fun from the sidelines.

Law could only struggle weakly before resigning himself to his fate. If he had used Nen, he might have easily broken free, but using Nen was out of the question in this setting. And physically, he couldn't compete with Uvogin, who had him firmly restrained.

After some roughhousing, Nobunaga only found a black card and a few small pearls on Law. Although he was unwilling, he could only give up.

Uvogin let go of Law, and Nobunaga handed the black card back to Law, shaking his head as he remarked, "You've forgotten your friends for a girl."

Law said nothing. He took the black card and put it away, then just gave the two of them a meaningful smile.

Seeing Law's smile, Nobunaga and Uvogin shuddered slightly and had a bad feeling.

After more than an hour, Buddha Jumps Over the Wall can finally be served.

Law entered the kitchen and carefully carried the oversized clay pot to the dining table.

Except for Franklin, who had yet to try Law's cooking and had a rather indifferent reaction, everyone else was quite expectant after taking their seats.

After everyone was seated, Law took the initiative and distributed bowls and spoons to everyone. But when it came to Uvogin and Nobunaga, he gave them each a smaller bowl.

"You two get only one serving."

Before the lid was even opened, Law directly sentenced both Uvogin and Nobunaga to death.

When they heard Law's words, they were stunned, but they had forgotten about their earlier antics and immediately protested. However, the initiative was in Law's hands, and their objections were futile.

"This dish is called Buddha Jumps Over the Wall. You've definitely never had it before." Law said as he began untying the white cloth covering the pot.

Among all the people, the expectations of the few people, including Sanbica, were almost off the charts.

Chrollo and Pakunoda had also tasted Law's cooking many times, but although they were looking forward to it, their expectations were not as exaggerated as Machi and the others'.

Speaking of which, before Law left, he had spoiled the appetites of Machi and the others. And in the few months since he left, every time Machi and the others ate, they felt their meals were tasteless, as if they were just eating to fill their stomachs.

This was a long-awaited reunion with Law's cooking skills.

"Cherish it."

After removing the white cloth, Law smiled slightly and opened the lid.

The aroma that had been brewing for more than two hours wafted out along with a plume of steam, enveloping the room and filling everyone's noses.

The complex, harmonious scent of dozens of ingredients melded into a singular, unforgettable freshness, branding itself in everyone's minds.

'It smells so good…'

No matter who they were, they will have such a bland evaluation upon smelling this aroma, which is also a primal reaction.

Even Law, who was mentally prepared, and Sanbica, who had already tasted it before, couldn't help but greedily inhale the enticing fragrance.

This was the dish in its completed form, and those present were its first-ever tasters.

If the dozens of ingredients in this clay pot were all B-level... even a Nen User would definitely benefit from eating it.

Breaking free from the spell of the aroma, Law ladled a serving into each person's bowl and said, "Dig in and see how it tastes."

After hearing what Law said, everyone grabbed their bowls and spoons and began eating without fear of the heat.

As the rich broth and tender bear paw entered their mouths, the room fell silent. The only sounds were chewing and swallowing.

There were no exaggerated praises, no words pushing its greatness to extremes, just one bite after another, with all their focus consumed by the act of eating.

Law didn't eat right away. Instead, he quietly watched as everyone's eating habits devolved into something more animalistic. Even the usually calm Chrollo was thoroughly engrossed in the meal.

'What a familiar scene…'

Looking at this familiar scene in front of him, Law's gaze softened slightly and a faint smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

He felt a deep sense of fulfillment, as if he had found back something he had lost.

Uvogin and Nobunaga finished eating the fastest because their bowls were the smallest. They ignored Law's prior decree and eagerly helped themselves to another serving.

Law shook his head slightly, but let it slide.

At the dinner table, even the usually reserved Franklin revealed a more voracious side as the meal turned into a full-blown food scramble.

Law himself only managed two bowls before the pot was emptied.

"Poor Feitan. He has no idea what he missed." Uvogin sighed with satisfaction.

It was, indeed, a regretful matter.

The regret is that the person who missed it doesn't know what he missed. And only those who didn't miss it know what the person who missed it missed!

Even Chrollo shared Uvogin's sentiment.

Coming from Meteor City, not only had they never tasted B-level ingredients, they also had no concept of such ingredients. Their palates were like those of babies at birth, never having been baptized with such culinary excellence.

This is the first appearance of Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, and also their first taste of its wonders.
