Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1035: Elderly Woman

The Twin Pheras and its rider were seconds away from breaking through the dome of protective barrier. Its rider, a Mana Vortex Magus, had a mad grin on his face as the two plummeted from the skies.

Dark King… Let's see what you're made of!

He thought to himself, his eyes flickering with wild intensity.

On the ground, the group of Magi had finished preparing for the combined Rank 3 Spell. They, too, were a second or two away from piercing through the barrier near the estate's entrance.

Right at that moment, an elderly woman with a kind and amiable face suddenly appeared in the sprawling, lush garden. Although she looked friendly, the sparks of fighting intent blazing in her eyes suggested anything but.

She cracked the joints around her neck, exhaling a deep sigh. "Ah, how long has it been since I've had to join the frontlines?" she muttered under her breath.

Quickly evaluating the dangers surrounding her, she deemed the aerial attack far more concerning than the one on the ground.

Raising her head, she glanced at the mystical creature and its rider, her lips curling into a faint smile.

"Alright, then. You first."

In the next few moments, several things occurred simultaneously.

The cultists had finally and ruthlessly shattered the barrier. Two massive breaches tore open—one high above at the apex of the dome, and the other near the estate's grand gates.

Like a great mirror shattered into countless fragments, the two breach points splintered outwards, sending deep cracks spidering through the surrounding sections of the barrier.

But that was the least of Professor Whitaker's concerns…

Like blood from an open wound, the cultists surged in through both gaps. They were relentless, unbending, and hungry for chaos.

The elderly woman chose to ignore the ground forces for the moment, directing her spell towards the Rank 3 magical beast and the Mana Vortex Magus approaching her from the sky.

Finally, she completed the three magical components of her spell, and then…

The space right in front of the beast and its rider was viciously torn open, and a direct portal to the Spirit World was formed!

The scene inside was breathtaking, yet filled with untold horrors.

As the portal quickly stabilized, the rider found his eyes widen in shock. He could see a myriad sea of colors inside the enormous portal, and countless shadowy creatures moving in the backdrop.

Suddenly, a fantastical beast with its maw wide open barreled towards the portal, hearing the call of its summoner.

With a thunderous roar, the creature dove through the rift in the fabric of reality and emerged into the waking world, its cavernous jaws brimming with razor-sharp teeth, intent on devouring the twin pheras whole!

It resembled a killer whale, its obsidian black body pulsing with ancient power. Its eyes were cold, predatory, and sparkling with flames of intelligence as it locked onto the Twin Pheras with unmatched precision and unrelenting force.

The air visibly trembled as its massive jaws opened wide. Because of the speed and the downward momentum of the twin pheras, it was unable to change its trajectory.

Then, in one unstoppable, fluid motion, the spectral whale clamped down on its prey, engulfing the twin pheras entirely.

Right on time, Professor Whitaker conjured another portal in front of her summoned beast. The screech of the beast was drowned in the sudden crash of magical force, as the portal soon sealed shut.

In but an instant, the whale had arrived in the material world, devoured the twin pheras, and promptly returned to the Spirit World.

And just like that, Professor Whitaker had swiftly dealt with one powerful enemy.

Yes, only one…

Silence followed for a few moments before the winds picked up again. The rider of the twin pheras found himself rapidly falling to the ground. At the last possible moment, due to his quick reaction, the Magus was able to jump off his familiar before the whale devoured it.

With a dark expression etched across his face, he cast a spell to slow his descent. His body began to levitate gently towards the ground, his robes fluttering around him.

And as he drifted lower, he cast a seething, hateful glance toward Professor Whitaker, his eyes burning with unspoken fury.

But soon, his eyes widened yet again as all that met his gaze was…

BAM!

With a thunderous roar, a white-furred ape had launched into the air at some point right after the whale had devoured the twin pheras. Then, its massive fist, glowing with raw mana, slammed into the Magus in mid-air.

The blow shattered the cultist's defenses and sent him flying like a broken doll, crashing into the ground with a violent thud.

Moments later, the ape landed on the ground near Professor Whitaker. It looked calm and unshaken, clearly satisfied with how he had dealt with the enemy.

The ape turned to the elderly lady and lowered his furry head, it's intelligent eyes locked onto her.

"Alright, Little Bee, you did well," Professor Whitaker said with a light chuckle as she patted the giant ape's head.

The beast thumped his chest several times in joy, then turned towards the enemy, growling.

Meanwhile, the cultist staggered to his feet, clutching his chest where the ape's punch had landed. His ribs were clearly fractured, and he had suffered internal bleeding.

Just then, the other cultists who had breached the barrier from the ground below arrived, surrounding him in a loose circle. Their eyes shifted to the kind, elderly lady standing before them.

Their expressions twisted into unease.

There was something about her…

Something that made even the Mana Vortex Rank cultists hesitate.

And then there was that white-furred ape, and the killer whale from earlier. Who knew just how many more creatures she could summon? Now, they were extremely wary of her despite outnumbering her.

Professor Whitaker scanned the faces of her foes, recognizing none of them. She displayed a faint smile and asked in a polite tone:

"Tell me, gentlemen, how is it that all of you were able to infiltrate the city?"

She paused for a moment, her eyes flashing with intrigue and… something dark and ominous.

Suddenly, the white-furred ape standing by her side shivered, casting fearful glances towards her summoner.

"Hoho, don't be afraid, gentlemen. I'm just an elderly woman. Tell me, did someone on the inside help you? If so… would you mind telling me who these traitorous scums are?"

Right at that moment, the ape suddenly covered his eyes, as if unwilling to witness what was about to unfold.

And then… the ground beneath the cultists shifted.
