Chapter 625: The Outcome
Chapter 625: The Outcome
Adam's eyes narrowed as he gazed at the hazy silhouette of the old man. He could vaguely see the amused smile on his lips, causing him to involuntarily clench his fists.
However, he didn't reply to him. Instead, he turned his attention to Anna who was still gazing into the distance, at the carriages that had left for Moon City.
The youth's eyes warmed witnessing this. It had been so many years since he had seen Anna. But thanks to this final trial of the Raven Inheritance, he was able to finally see her.
Not just that, he was also able to relive the moments he had spent with her in his youth. He was grateful for it, needless to say.
But the hazy figure's voice just now sounded ominous.
"Let us follow her, shall we?" Said the old man with a slight chuckle.
Adam shifted his attention back again to the hazy figure, his eyes flickering with realization. Suddenly, it dawned on him and he finally understood what was happening.
"I see," he muttered under his breath. "Very well, let's follow Anna. I'd like to see what happened to her after I left."
The hazy figure stroked his beard as he replied, "Young Magus, are you sure?"
However, Adam ignored him and walked past him. He saw Anna make her way to the harbor as he silently followed behind her.
The red-haired princess had still covered her head with the cloak's hood, making it impossible for others to identify her. Even though she was on a completely different continent, she didn't dare to risk it.
Anna's eyes flashed with determination as she quickly made her way to the city's harbor. She had learned that there would be a large merchant ship sailing across the Galestine Ocean, departing for the Europa Continent later today.
There were seldom any ships that sailed across the Galestine Ocean because of how dangerous the route was. It was filled with countless dangers from not only pirates but also the magical beasts that resided in the depths of the ocean.
So Anna was quite fortunate that she was able to find a ship that sailed towards her destination on the same day that Adam was leaving for the Clover Academy.
Although there would be several Magi onboard the ship, she was confident that she'd be able to get onboard inconspicuously. Even though she didn't have any money on her, she still had her spells.
After making several twists and turns, and taking detours several times, she finally arrived at the harbor. There, she spotted the massive merchant vessel that would be setting sail for the Europa Continent.
She couldn't help but smile brightly, her crimson eyes flashing with eagerness. Finally! It's been seven years... Finally, I can return home, she thought gleefully.
Suddenly, her smile froze and intense warning bells started ringing inside her head. The world around her seemed to slow down significantly as her senses were heightened to the maximum.
She could feel intense bloodlust being aimed toward her from multiple directions. She was being attacked!
BOOM!
The place she was standing on was immediately enveloped in a large explosion. The crates near her were blasted to smithereens, and the people that were around her blew up into blood and flesh.
Immediately after, half a dozen figures wearing featureless white masks and black cloaks appeared out of nowehere, surrounding the area of the explosion. All of them radiating powerful auras equivalent to the Mana Liquefaction Rank!
Utter pandemonium descended on the harbor as the loud explosion shook every nook and cranny of this place. Several innocent bystanders had died, directly caught in the radius of the explosion. Many more were grievously injured.
The ones who had managed to come out relatively unscathed immediately started fleeing the place. This was a battle between Magi, after all. How could the surrounding mortals dare to take part in it?
Forget mere mortals, even Rank 1 - Mana Foundation Magi wouldn't dare to come close to this battlefield.
Standing on the deck of the humongous sailboat, Adam and the hazy figure witnessed the sudden turn of events. Needless to say, the old man seemed to be enjoying the scene, finding it greatly entertaining.
Adam, on the other hand, watched everything unfold with a cold and detached look on his face. His eyes flashed with complicated emotions, his thoughts a mystery.
"You never expected such a turn of events, did you, young magus?" Asked the old man as he stroked his beard in a laidback manner.
Adam didn't reply, his eyes fixated on the explosion in the harbor. A few moments later, the explosion finally died down and he was able to see the familiar silhouette of Anna within. Not just her, there were two other people.
The explosion had greatly injured the red-haired princess. The fire had burned parts of her clothes, scorching her flesh underneath. The only reason why she was even alive was because she was able to cover herself with a layer of mana at the last moment.
"How despicable!" She spat through gritted teeth as blood overflowed from her mouth.
Two people lay dead at her feet. They were wearing the same uniform as the ones surrounding her. A split second before the explosion, before Anna was about to escape, these two silently emerged from the ground and tightly grabbed onto her legs.
They died as a result and Anna was unable to escape the center of the explosion.
She coughed out another mouthful of blood as she staggered to the ground. Her eyelids seemed heavy and her heartbeat slowed down drastically. Her lungs seemed to have been burned as well as she was having trouble breathing.
Am I going to die here? She thought to herself as fear gripped her heart.
The masked figures surrounding her drew their blades, thier aura filled with reckless killing intent. One of them issued a cold command, "Cut her into pieces!"
On the deck of the ship, the hazy figure of the old man glanced at Adam and asked in a somber tone, "The Magi who had been pursuing Anna had been patiently lying in wait for her, killing her when she least expected it."
Adam remained silent, his expression vacant as he saw the half a dozen masked men dash toward Anna, their blades gleaming with frightening coldness.
"Confronted with the death of the woman who was like family to you, can you accept such an outcome?" The hazy figure asked.
Adam didn't reply. He slowly closed his eyes, seemingly unable to witness the death of his loved one. In the harbor, sensing her imminent doom, Anna too closed her eyes.
Her last thoughts weren't about her regrets of failing to return home but about the safety of the raven-haired boy.
"Forgive me, Adam... I won't be able to keep my promise..."
STAB!!!
