Chapter 3: Distress
Narcissus looked up, chasing the receding figure of Sun God Helios, and that powerful divine power stirred deep envy and longing within him.
A powerful divine office would be cherished by the world's origin; Narcissus understood this was both an opportunity and a mission.
Gazing at the ravaged and desolate land, Narcissus felt the divine office he held trembling within him.
He understood that the world's origin was urging him to act, to bring new life to the land. Greenery and flowers would be his mission, and this was also where his opportunity lay.
Narcissus resolutely decided to embark on his journey, injecting his divine power into every new place he arrived.
The traces left by his footsteps became places where life was nurtured. Small grasses began to grow robustly where he passed, and flowers in the clumps of grass bloomed one by one, exuding enchanting fragrance.
Years passed, and after becoming a deity, Narcissus found that time suddenly became so worthless.
He had been in this world for many years; at first, he would diligently remember each day, but later he found that these efforts had lost their meaning.
During these years on his journey, Narcissus also encountered many deities of mountains and waters, which made him realize the difference between himself and them.
Narcissus found that those deities simply did not care about the changes on the land.
After the war between Zeus and the Titan gods ended, Zeus had been the Divine King for a long time.
However, there were still many desolate and broken places on the land.
During this time, Narcissus asked them, and according to them, the land had the protection of Gaia, the Mother of the Earth.
They said there was no need for them to waste divine power, and they even advised Narcissus not to waste his divine power, urging him to stay and play with them, stating that the land would eventually return to its original state under the Mother of the Earth's divine power.
However, Narcissus ignored their persuasion and continued with his task of restoring life to the land.
Because he discovered that during this period of bringing life to the land, he had gained benefits.
Not only did his divine power increase slightly, but because flowers and plants needed water to grow, he even obtained the divine office of bringing rain from the world's origin through his efforts.
It could be said that it was a reward given to him by the world's origin.
Thus, every time he made a piece of land filled with flowers and green grass, he would exercise the divine office of bringing rain, allowing the rainwater to nourish the land until the soil where the plants grew was moist before stopping.
On this day, Narcissus, as usual, came to a barren valley, intending to use his divine power to make the land covered with green grass and flowers.
Suddenly, he felt the earth shaking violently.
"What's happening?" Narcissus controlled his body.
A crack opened in the valley, and black smoke emerged from it.
Narcissus felt a violent force erupting from the fissure, and within this violent force, there were intentions filled with anger and hatred.
"How could this be?" Sensing this intention, Narcissus quickly wanted to withdraw from the valley.
He already knew, he hadn't expected there to be a Titan god's organ here.
The war between the Zeus faction and the Titan god faction had passed a long time ago. Although deities are immortal and indestructible, many Titan gods' organs were still severed by divine artifacts during the war, and those Titan gods' organs fell to the earth.
Over time, these organs would often, due to resentment, foster monsters that only destroyed the land and had no self-awareness.
When Narcissus had just been reborn, he encountered deities fighting these monsters.
Initially, Narcissus had also thought about going to find those Titan god organs, then scavenging to see if those organs contained divinity.
Later, seeing those terrifying monsters, Narcissus, who had not yet fully transitioned from being an ordinary person in his previous life, felt that he was actually just a weakling, and it was likely not to scavenge, but rather to become food for those monsters.
So he generally avoided places where Titan god organs had fallen, and only after the resulting monsters were eliminated by other deities would Narcissus go to restore that land.
He hadn't expected to be so unlucky today; this Titan god organ, which had turned into a monster, was actually hidden underground.
The black mist quickly enveloped the entire valley, blocking Narcissus's retreat.
Narcissus gripped the staff in his hand; this staff was made of a tough piece of wood, its texture a deep brown, and its surface smooth and delicate.
It was a divine artifact made by a deity skilled in crafting, after he had completely mastered his divine office of greenery and flowers.
Along the entire length of the staff, flowers and green grass intertwined, like a vibrant painting. Brilliant flowers bloomed in various colors, from vivid reds, tender pinks to bright yellows, each one brimming with the power of life.
Green grass covered the surface of the wooden staff, like a soft green carpet, emitting a fresh scent.
These flowers and green grass were not simply bound to the wooden staff, but were integrated with it, as if growing from within.
They intricately wove splendid patterns on the wooden staff, forming a subtle tableau of nature.
The staff began to glow faintly, and flowers bloomed and green grass grew at Narcissus's feet, resisting the invasion of the black mist.
Roars emanated from the black mist, which began to gather before Narcissus's eyes.
Several monsters appeared before Narcissus's eyes, their appearances chilling, showcasing the remnants of the Titan gods' former majesty and power.
One of the monsters had a colossal and distorted body, towering like a mountain. Its skin was as black as coal, covered with hard scales, each shimmering with a cold light. Its eyes had lost their vitality, becoming hollow black holes, devoid of emotion, only endless indifference.
Another monster presented a strange shape. Its body was twisted and deformed, seemingly without a fixed form. Its limbs were long and curved, each claw incredibly sharp, like a keen blade. Its skin was pale as a corpse, emitting an aura of decay and deterioration. When it moved, it produced eerie noises, as if the wails of souls echoed in the air.
There was also a monster with an even more bizarre appearance. Its body exhibited a fusion of multiple forms; its head might have multiple faces simultaneously, and its limbs might change unpredictably, sometimes claws, sometimes tentacles. Its body exuded an aura of chaos and disorder, as if a mass of unordered power had condensed into form.
"One, two, three!!" At first, Narcissus thought there was only one monster, but unexpectedly, three appeared at once.
Seeing the monsters before him, a resolute courage surged within Narcissus; despite facing three monsters, he was unwilling to retreat easily today.
Narcissus gripped the staff in his hand tightly and unhesitatingly met the fierce battle.
The monsters let out deafening roars, ferociously pouncing on Narcissus, their earthquake-like tremors making the very earth tremble.
However, Narcissus showed no fear; he clenched his teeth tightly, utilizing the divine power he commanded.
As Narcissus wielded his staff, the flowers and green grass entwined around it began to burst forth with infinite vital energy. They rapidly spread, transforming into coiling vines and roots, firmly binding the monsters' feet and hindering their attacks.
The fragrance of the flowers diffused, spreading a vibrant aura that infused Narcissus with endless power.
A gentle drizzle began to fall, washing away the black mist.
Narcissus seized the opportunity, swiftly moving between the three monsters, flexibly dodging their attacks.
While performing clever evasions, he continuously wielded his staff, releasing wondrous energy.
The monsters struggled furiously, attempting to break free from their restraints. They roared, releasing destructive energy, but Narcissus firmly gripped his staff, releasing his divine power.
