Chapter 18: Chapter 18: The Wesen Tournament

Chapter 18: The Wesen Tournament

The stench of stale sweat, cheap beer, and something vaguely feral hung heavy in the air, a familiar bouquet that told Adam he was exactly where he needed to be. The underground Wesen fighting club, "The Pit," was a brutal, no-holds-barred spectacle, a place where Wesen could woge and unleash their primal instincts without fear of human law. For Adam, it was a goldmine of information and, more importantly, a buffet of unique Wesen blood.

"You sure about this, Adam?" Nick muttered, his face grim, as they blended into the roaring crowd. "This place is a powder keg. And fighting these guys… it's not exactly police procedure."

"Relax, Nick," Adam said, a confident smirk. "Think of it as extreme community outreach. Besides, we're not just here to break up a fight. We're here to gather intel. And maybe, just maybe, acquire some… rare specimens." He winked, then nudged Kathleen, who stood beside him, her expression stoic but her eyes gleaming with a predatory anticipation. "Ready for some fun, partner?"

Kathleen gave a curt nod. "Always."

Monroe, meanwhile, looked like he was about to have an anxiety attack. "Oh, my. The sheer aggression. The lack of decorum. It's… it's positively barbaric! And the betting! It's an affront to all civilized Wesen!"

"Just try not to woge and lecture everyone on proper etiquette, Monroe," Adam advised. "We're here for reconnaissance. And a little bit of ass-kicking, if the opportunity arises."

The ring was a makeshift affair, surrounded by a chain-link fence. Two woged Wesen, a hulking Blutbad and a nimble Reinigen, tore into each other, the crowd roaring with bloodlust. Adam watched, analyzing their fighting styles, their strengths, their weaknesses. His enhanced senses, honed by countless vials and Kathleen's training, picked up every subtle shift, every tell.

"Alright," Adam whispered, as the current fight ended with a brutal knockout. "Our turn. We're going in as a tag team. Kathleen, you take the brute force. I'll handle the finesse. And we're looking for the biggest, baddest Wesen they've got. The ones who've clearly been juicing on something special."

They approached the organizer, a slick, scarred Hundjäger, who eyed them with suspicion. "You two think you've got what it takes, Grimms? This isn't some street brawl. This is The Pit."

"We've got more than what it takes, fella," Adam replied, his voice resonating with a subtle authority that made the Hundjäger involuntarily flinch. "Just point us to the toughest fight you've got. We're here to make a statement. And maybe win some prize money."

The Hundjäger, intrigued and perhaps a little intimidated, pointed them to the main event. Their opponents were two massive, woged Wesen: a towering, rock-skinned Siegbarste, and a lightning-fast Skalengeck, its chameleon-like skin shifting to blend with the shadows. These weren't just ordinary Wesen; they were clearly enhanced, their movements almost unnatural.

"Looks like they've been drinking their own special potions," Adam muttered to Kathleen, a grin spreading across his face. "Perfect. More for us."

The bell rang, and the crowd roared. The Siegbarste charged, a living battering ram. Kathleen met it head-on, a force of pure Grimm power. Her movements were a blur, deflecting its blows, striking with devastating precision. She was a human-shaped wrecking ball, her enhanced strength allowing her to trade blows with the massive Wesen.

Adam, meanwhile, engaged the Skalengeck. The chameleon-like Wesen was incredibly fast, its movements almost impossible to track, its claws tipped with a paralyzing venom. But Adam's enhanced reflexes and magical senses allowed him to anticipate its every move. He danced around its attacks, his movements fluid and unpredictable, striking with rapid, precise jabs that found the Skalengeck's vulnerable points.

The fight was a brutal ballet of power and precision. Adam and Kathleen moved as one, a seamless, unstoppable force. They countered each other's weaknesses, amplified each other's strengths. Kathleen absorbed the Siegbarste's blows, creating openings for Adam. Adam distracted the Skalengeck, allowing Kathleen to land devastating strikes.

The crowd, initially hostile, slowly fell silent, then began to roar with a mixture of awe and terror. They had never seen Grimms fight like this. Not with such power. Not with such coordination.

Finally, with a combined effort, Kathleen delivered a crushing blow to the Siegbarste's head, sending it crashing to the ground, unconscious. Adam, meanwhile, caught the Skalengeck mid-lunge, twisted its arm, and slammed it face-first into the canvas, knocking it out cold.

The crowd erupted, a mixture of cheers and stunned silence. The Hundjäger organizer stared, his jaw slack.

[System] Wesen Defeated. Wesen Type: Siegbarste. Extracting... Alchemical Vial Created: Siegbarste Potion (Duplicate). [System] Diminishing Returns Applied. Siegbarste Potion effectiveness reduced by 25%.

[System] Wesen Defeated. Wesen Type: Skalengeck. Extracting... Alchemical Vial Created: Skalengeck Potion. [System] The Skalengeck Potion grants a minor increase in camouflage abilities and a slight boost to stealth.

Two new vials, one a dull gray, the other a shimmering, shifting green, materialized in Adam's hands. He pocketed them with a triumphant grin.

Nick, who had been watching from the sidelines with Hank and Monroe, shook his head in disbelief. "They just… they just took out two of the toughest Wesen in the city. Like it was nothing."

Monroe, still wide-eyed, whispered, "They are truly formidable. Adam's power… it's growing exponentially."

Adam approached the Hundjäger, who was still reeling. "So," Adam said, his voice calm but firm, "about that intel. Who's funding this little operation? And who's providing the… special enhancements?"

Under the subtle pressure of Adam's aura, the Hundjäger, terrified and defeated, began to spill everything. He revealed a rogue Royal faction, secretly experimenting with Wesen "super-soldiers," trying to create an army. He gave names, locations, and details of their operations.

"Excellent," Adam said, once the Hundjäger was done. "Thanks for the info. Now, I suggest you shut this place down. Permanently. Or next time, I'll be coming for you. And trust me, you don't want to be on my 'to-do' list."

Intel gathered. Vials acquired. And a clear message sent to any rogue Royals thinking they can play God with Wesen lives. Adam felt a surge of power, a deep satisfaction. This is just the beginning of our clean-up operation.
