Chapter 570: Evil Spirits
When Luo Huian returned to the bakery, she found Yu Xiang Qiao putting piles of salt all over the place. She frowned when she saw the piles of salt in every corner of the bakery. Luo Huian questioned, "What's going on? Why are you putting salt in every corner of the bakery?"
Yu Xiang Qiao jumped. She wheeled around, and only when she saw that it was Luo Huian did she heave a sigh of relief. "It is you, Boss Luo."
"Of course, it's me," Luo Huian frowned. "Who did you think it was?"
When Yu Xiang Qiao heard her question, she looked around and then turned to look at Luo Huian. She walked over to where Luo Huian was standing before whispering, "I am driving the evil spirits away."
"What?" Luo Huian questioned, feeling a bit stupefied. How on earth did Yu Xiang Qiao end up driving away evil spirits? Where did these spirits even come from?
"You don't know?" Yu Xiang Qiao remarked. She blinked her eyes and then explained what had happened in the city over the past few days. It turned out that the entire city was now bursting with a new fear that was slowly gaining momentum.
Yu Xiang Qiao sighed and continued speaking, "I heard this from one of my friends. There have been many instances where the citizens of the city have seen evil spirits at night. Because of this, there have been many accidents. Do you know my aunt saw an old woman hanging upside down when she was going to the kitchen to drink water? Because of this, she ended up falling down the stairs and breaking her spine."
"It was really dangerous! She could have died if my aunt had fallen a bit harder! "Yu Xiang Qiao exclaimed with a hint of tremor in her voice. "You have no idea, Miss Luo. Things are getting really troublesome."
Luo Huian's frown deepened when she heard Yu Xiang Qiao's response. She blinked her eyes and nodded before asking Xiao Hei, "Is the city really haunted?"
"No", Xiao Hei shook his head and explained, "From the energy that I can sense, this is a work of either an elf or a child spirit. The energy is too pure for an evil spirit to be behind these accidents."
"Elf?" Luo Huian had heard about them. They were impish little creatures who loved pulling pranks on others. She had never seen an elf before, but she had heard a lot about them from Elder Cai. She told her all about the time when she was cursed by the elves into speaking in rhymes just because she stole some of their spiritual water.
'They are nasty little things,' said Elder Cai with a disgruntled look on their face. 'Everyone says that elves are the purest and most adorable thing that you will ever see, but I am telling you that it is all a lie! If you cross them, then they will make your life hell.'
Luo Huian picked up the whisker and a bowl. Just as she poured the cream into the bowl to beat it, she muttered out loud, "It seems like someone has pissed off a little elf."

Luo Yeqing felt that things had been getting troublesome these past few days. She raised her head and looked at the mirror that had cracked into pieces and wondered if she was being haunted by something dangerous. She had just returned from the court, as the divorce proceedings were not going well.
Qin Qiu's father, Old Master Qin, was proving quite troublesome. He kept insisting that this was all a well-designed propaganda because Luo Yeqing wanted to divorce his son and leave him with nothing.
He kept emphasising that since Qin Qiu had also contributed to the Luo family by giving birth to Luo Qingling, then it was simply too ruthless and cruel of Luo Yeqing to abandon him after she was done with him.
Old Master Qin wanted not only 10% shares of the Luo Corporation but also a big mansion, a job for his son plus three cars and a hotel under Qin Qiu's name. Without it, he was refusing to even let Luo Yeqing meet with Qin Qiu.
Even in the court today, Old Master Qiu was the one who came with the lawyer representing Qin Qiu.
She knew that the reason they were putting such ludicrous demands was to make sure that Luo Yeqing would not divorce Qin Qiu.
Luo Yeqing had never thought that the Qin family was such a big mess. No, it would be right to say that she had seen it and even knew it somewhere deep in her mind, but for some reason, she had never paid any attention to it. She had refused to see the truth because she was just that in love with Qin Qiu.
However, now that the rose-tinted glasses had been removed from her eyes, Luo Yeqing could see things that she hadn't seen before. She ran her fingers through her hair and headed towards the restroom where she wanted to wash her face. But the second she pulled open the door of the restroom, a horrible sight greeted her.
Blood. A lot of blood dripped from the ceiling onto the floor and the walls. Her eyes widened as she realised what was going on and looked down at the body that was lying on the floor.
"AHHHHH!!!"
**
"What happened?!" Luo Huian rushed into the ward where Luo Yeqing was admitted and looked at the old woman, who was still lying unconscious on the bed. She was looking rather pale, as if all the blood in her body had been drained off. If not for the fact that the woman was still breathing, Luo Huian would have thought that she was a goner.
"We don't know," Luo Qingling replied with a frown. She was standing in the corner of the room, with her arms crossed in front; she looked at their mother, who was lying on the bed and stated with a soft sigh, "We did check up on the surveillance, but it seemed like nothing happened in her room. She just happened to open the door of the restroom, and a second later she was screaming and running out of the room before tumbling down the stairs and breaking her leg."
Ye Shun sniffed softly from the corner where he was sitting, and Luo Huian turned to look at her daddy. It seemed like the mer was not as angry and indifferent toward Luo Yeqing as he showed and pretended to be.
With the furrow deepening between her brows, she turned to look at Luo Yeqing. She hoped that the heartbreak she got after seeing Qin Qiu's real face was not playing with her head; the last thing she needed was the old woman to go cuckoo.
"It's that elf again."
Before she could think of anything more, Xiao Hei, who was sitting on her shoulders, took one look at Luo Yeqing and sniffed in distaste. "It seemed like your mother is the one who is holding onto the relic made by the elves. But how did she get one?"
Yeah, how did she get her hands on such a dangerous thing? Elves were really possessive of their creations. Even if they sell it, they never take it as the thing being sold; they take it as lending it to the person who had purchased it and brought it back once that person died.
They had traces left on their creations that they could trace back once the owner died.
And if the things were not borrowed but stolen, then they would cause even more havoc. Either they would punish the person who did the stealing until they were dead. As they couldn't kill directly, they would do it indirectly. Or they would curse the person until they returned the stolen goods.
But there were times when the elves made mistakes. As they would end up chasing the wrong person. Luo Yeqing was a human through and through, which meant that she could have never ascended to the immortal realm and stolen the elfish good that was causing the trouble.
The thief must be someone else, and the ones who bought the goods from him were the ones who were getting hunted down by the elves.
Luo Huian clicked her tongue in annoyance. This was why she hated the elders of the realm. There were issues, real ones at that, but all they cared about was the stupid old laws that should have been changed like a thousand times already. She despised how careless they were towards the real troubles, but boy, if someone broke the rules that they had set.
Luo Huian shook her head. Pulling out of her thoughts, she turned to look at Old Madam Luo and asked, "What did the doctor say?"
"She said that there are three minor and one major fractures. It will take a month—"
"DARLING!"
