Haichiman's Super Strength

Chapter 2: Chapter 002: The Unreliable Teacher

There wasn't much time left for the students to talk.

Before long, Ichinose's voice rang out.

"Alright, everyone, it's almost time. Let's leave a good impression on the teacher."

The students of Class B promptly returned to their seats.

At that moment, Hikigaya finally had the chance to observe his classmates.

At the front desk sat a boy with sharp eyes. The nameplate in front of him read Ryuji Kanzaki. He glanced briefly in Hikigaya's direction before looking away.

How cold…

Behind him was a girl with short white hair and a somewhat frail demeanor—Chihiro Shirami. Their eyes met for a brief second before she quickly looked away.

Even colder…

Though Hikigaya had been mentally prepared for something like this, the sting of isolation was still there. If he were any weaker, he might have made a fool of himself right then and there.

A moment later, the sound of approaching footsteps filled the classroom.

A woman wearing a pink T-shirt walked in.

She was undeniably beautiful, but Hikigaya wasn't in the mood to appreciate it. After all, his youth had already ended the moment he set foot in this classroom.

Failing to integrate into a group on the first day would only make things harder later.

Well, not that he had any intention of blending in, anyway.

"Everyone, please return to your seats~ otherwise, the teacher will be very upset."

The female teacher stood at the podium, hands on her hips, pretending to be angry.

Despite her words, her playful tone made it clear that she wasn't really upset. She seemed… too easygoing for a teacher.

Hikigaya instinctively straightened his posture. First impressions mattered, and it was always good to be on a teacher's good side. It made asking for leave much easier in the future.

The woman picked up a piece of chalk and, balancing herself on one leg while raising the other slightly, elegantly wrote her name on the board:

Hoshinomiya Chie

Her movements were playful, almost childlike, which only added to the sense of unreliability.

"Hoshinomiya Chie. That's my name. Everyone, remember it well~ If you forget, the teacher will be very sad."

"Well…"

A murmur ran through the class.

It was now certain—this teacher was definitely unreliable.

"Don't worry, Sensei. How could we possibly forget such a beautiful teacher?"

"Oh my, that's sweet~ And what's your name?"

"Shibata Sa, Sensei!"

"Very nice! It's rare to see such a charming student. But… there's something a little off. Shouldn't you be calling me cute instead?"

"Oh… um, yes…!"

Hikigaya watched the scene unfold in disbelief.

Seriously? We're just casually chatting now?

Wasn't she supposed to explain the school rules? There were rules for a reason—just follow them, damn it!

But of course, he didn't say that out loud.

Instead, his straightened posture gradually relaxed. If this was how things were going, he might as well just sit back and listen.

Meanwhile, Hoshinomiya Chie continued chatting away, effortlessly blending in with Ichinose and the others.

After a while, someone finally lost their patience.

"Sensei!"

At the front desk, Kanzaki Ryuji stood up, his tone firm.

"The admissions guide mentions that the homeroom teacher is responsible for explaining the rules. While the school tuition is free, there was no mention of how food and living expenses would be handled."

"How does the school manage this part?"

Well said!

Direct and to the point—there was no way for this unreliable teacher to dodge the question now.

A true hero!

From today onward, Hikigaya would call him Hero Kanzaki.

Unfortunately, he had underestimated this teacher.

"Ah, Kanzaki-san! You can't be like this!"

Hoshinomiya Chie wagged her finger at him playfully.

"Being too impatient is a big turn-off, you know? If you want a girlfriend, you need to be mature and steady. Teacher prefers mature and reliable men~ Understand?"

No.

Absolutely not.

Who the hell cared about her preferences?

Just explain the damn rules!

Hikigaya and Kanzaki both twitched their mouths in frustration. Neither of them knew how to handle this woman.

"Sensei," Ichinose spoke up with a bright smile.

"The entrance ceremony is in an hour. If this continues, we won't finish in time. Why don't we save the chatting for later?"

"Ahh, you're always like this. Really, I just wanted to talk to you all a bit more!"

Hoshinomiya Chie pouted, placing her hands on her hips.

"But fine, fine. Since you're all so eager, I'll explain."

Her tone made it sound like she was being forced into this, as if she were the victim here.

Hikigaya was, once again, speechless.

With a sigh, she passed around a box filled with small electronic devices. They looked somewhat like smartphones.

Hikigaya received three and passed two of them to Chihiro Shirami behind him. He let out a small sigh of relief when she silently took one and passed the last one back.

At least she hadn't accused him of anything.

In middle school, a girl once burst into tears in front of the entire class and screamed, "Hikigaya touched me! I don't want it!"

He wanted to die that day.

"These are your Student ID Terminals," Hoshinomiya Chie explained.

"The school has a special rule known as the S-System."

"This device functions like a mobile phone, but it only works within the school's internal network. It also has a payment system similar to a credit card, except instead of money, it uses points."

"Right now, each of you has 100,000 points loaded onto your account. Each point is equivalent to one yen."

"Points will be distributed on the first of every month, and you can use them to buy anything on campus."

She struck a proud pose, chin slightly raised and hands on her waist.

"That's it!"

Silence.

Someone muttered under their breath.

"That's it? That explanation was way too short!"

Hikigaya blinked.

Wait.

Wasn't that his voice?

Several students turned to stare at him, and he immediately looked down, embarrassed.

"Hikigaya-san, was it?"

Hoshinomiya Chie smirked, wagging her finger.

"You know, work is a woman's natural enemy. So if I can avoid it, I will~"

"Personally, I'd rather gossip and go shopping than actually work. If you ever want to chat, Hikigaya, you're always welcome~"

…Staying up late is a woman's natural enemy, not work…

This woman had just outright admitted to being lazy.

Hikigaya let out a dry laugh.

An unreliable teacher. A class full of unfamiliar faces.

What was going to become of his youth?
