Chapter 113: Chapter 113 - Enemies' Encounter
"The first match will be between Yukigaoka and a team called Seiran," said Daichi, delivering the information.
"Seiran... I don't remember that school's name from my middle school days! What about you, Noya?" asked Tanaka.
"No idea either! At least we're close enough for me to keep up with what's happening in Chidoriyama's game! I can still remember a lot of the first-years!" replied Nishinoya, glancing at the court next to them.
"I get what you mean... just look at that school. When I decided to start the volleyball club, we barely had enough players to form a starting lineup, and now they've got a full roster with substitutes for every position!" said Hinata, observing Yukigaoka's bench, which now had both starters and reserves. He also recognized a few familiar faces who hadn't changed much, like Daisuke, and Suzuki, who still seemed to be the starting libero, along with Kawashima and Mori, who had been part of the team during the tournament he played in his third year.
"Tsk! I don't even know why I came to watch this... who cares about these middle school tournaments!" grumbled Tsukishima, who had been dragged there against his will.
"It's starting..." said Kageyama after noticing the referee's whistle and the game between the two teams beginning.
"Oh, Kawashima and Mori aren't starters!" observed Hinata as he watched the two remain on the bench, replaced by two different players.
"Looks like their starters are these two... Tokita and Shoji!" noted Sugawara, reading the names on the back of their jerseys.
"They actually listened to me and started putting names on the back of their jerseys! See how effective it is? We should bring this to Karasuno!" said Hinata with a grin.
"We get it! But we'd need the school's approval too!" said Daichi, shrugging as he turned his attention back to the game, which started with Yukigaoka's setter making a toss to Daisuke in position two. After jumping, Daisuke easily spiked past the opposing block.
"Wow, that guy's good!" said Tanaka.
"Looks like the guy you were talking to is an opposite hitter..." said Daichi after analyzing Daisuke's positioning.
"Seems like it, but he used to be a middle blocker. Maybe the new coach thought it'd be better for him to adapt to a new role..." observed Hinata, glancing at Yukigaoka's coach.
"Forget that, Seiran looks like a really weak team. This isn't going to be a competitive match," said Tsukishima in a disinterested tone as Daisuke scored another point.
As the game progressed, Tsukishima's words proved true, and Yukigaoka easily defeated Seiran 25-9.
"That was a really dominant match! That Daisuke guy seems really talented, but the rest of the team wasn't bad either. They might go far in this national tournament!" said Tanaka excitedly.
"That libero, Suzuki, also looked really good. The other team wasn't great at attacking, and most of the spikes ended up being dug by him!" said Nishinoya energetically, as he had to split his attention between Yukigaoka's game and Chidoriyama's, which had also just ended.
"Looks like Kitagawa Daiichi's game hasn't started yet, luckily!" said a male voice from the row in front of where the Karasuno players were sitting, catching Kageyama's attention since he was seated closest to the aisle.
"OIKAWA-SAN? SEIJOH?" said Kageyama, shocked, as he spotted Oikawa, Iwaizumi, Kindaichi, and Kunimi getting ready to sit down.
"Tobio-chan?" said Oikawa, less shocked but with a hint of confusion in his voice.
"Great, now we've got the insufferable Pretty Boy right in front of us!" said Tanaka with dissatisfaction, making a face as he glared at the Seijoh players.
"What? Can't we enjoy the rare opportunity to watch a national tournament happening in our prefecture too?" quipped Kindaichi, glaring back at Tanaka.
"What's your problem? You wanna fight, punk?" asked Tanaka, glaring even harder.
"KNOCK IT OFF!" shouted Daichi and Iwaizumi in unison, both smacking the backs of their respective teammates' heads.
"I apologize for that! This rookie doesn't know how to behave!" said Iwaizumi, bowing before sitting down with the rest of his team.
"It's fine. Even though this idiot isn't a rookie, he still doesn't know how to behave either!" said Daichi, bowing while forcing Tanaka to do the same with a hand on his head.
"This is nostalgic. It reminds me of when Tobio-chan was my rookie and kept pestering me to teach him things... though nothing's changed except now he learns while I wipe the floor with his face on the court!" sang Oikawa after sitting down.
"Wow, I'm impressed by your ability to say stuff like that while pretending our team didn't crush Seijoh in the last tournament!" retorted Hinata, since Kageyama didn't seem willing to engage with Oikawa's taunts.
"You got lucky! This time, we won't be careless, and we're preparing specifically for you, Joker-chan!" said Oikawa provocatively.
"Don't call me that! It's embarrassing... if you want to call me something, make it All-Rounder. It makes more sense and isn't embarrassing!" argued Hinata.
"All-Rounder is a trait, you idiot! Not a nickname. I don't care if you don't like it, but I'm going to keep using it. Idiot, idiot, idiot!" mocked Oikawa.
"Enough! You're practically giving away our new strategies, so shut it!" scolded Iwaizumi.
"These losers are full of little secrets! It doesn't matter what crazy strategies you come up with, we'll crush you like we did before, no matter what you try!" provoked Tanaka, earning a sharp glare from Daichi that made it clear he needed to stop picking fights with the Seijoh players.
