Chapter 13: Chapter 13 – Speed vs. Speed!
Score: 1-3
Seki stood across the net, watching me carefully.
His team had just scored with a lightning-fast quick attack.
Now?
It was our turn.
Kenji sighed. "Alright, fine. Let's do this."
I grinned. "You nervous?"
He scoffed. "No. Just don't miss."
I crouched low, ready to explode forward.
'This is it. Our first quick attack in a real match.'
The ref blew the whistle.
Game on.
.
Chihaya served fast and low.
Izumi stepped in—his best receive so far.
Kenji moved instantly, tracking the ball.
I sprinted forward, jumping before he even set it.
For a split second, everything slowed.
Seki's eyes widened.
'He sees it. He knows what's coming.**'
Kenji's fingers flicked the ball up—low and fast.
Perfect.
I swung mid-air—
BAM!
The ball shot past Seki's outstretched hands.
Straight to the backcourt.
The libero lunged—
But too late.
Point: Us.
Score: 2-3.
.
For a second—silence.
Then—
Izumi screamed.
"YESSS! IT WORKED!!"
Kenji blinked. "Wait… what just happened?"
Kōji stared. "That was insanely fast."
On the other side, Seki landed, eyes narrowed.
His setter, Oda, whistled. "Damn. That was clean."
Seki nodded. "Yeah. Too clean."
I grinned.
'So? Can you keep up?'
.
Kenji stepped up to serve.
I whispered, "Get it deep. Make them move."
Kenji smirked. "I got this."
He tossed the ball high—jump served deep.
Chihaya's libero received it perfectly.
Oda rushed in—but something was different.
Seki wasn't moving to spike.
'Wait…?'
Then, at the last second—Oda pushed the ball backward.
Chihaya's other middle blocker jumped out of nowhere.
Kenji cursed. "Damn—"
BOOM!
The ball blasted past us.
Point: Chihaya.
Score: 2-4.
.
Izumi groaned. "Crap. They have more than one quick attacker."
Kenji sighed. "This isn't gonna be easy."
I clenched my fists.
'That's fine. I didn't want easy.'
Seki smirked at me.
"Alright, Hinata. Let's see who's faster."
I grinned.
"You're on."
...
Score: 2-4
Seki smirked from across the net.
"Alright, Hinata. Let's see who's faster."
My blood pounded.
Finally—a real challenge.
I grinned. "You're on."
The ref blew the whistle.
Game on.
.
Chihaya's serve came fast, but Izumi adjusted, sending a clean pass.
Kenji was already in position. No hesitation.
I took off—sprinting toward the net.
Kenji set it low and fast.
I jumped before the ball even reached me.
Seki's blockers reacted instantly.
But this time—I twisted my wrist mid-air, sending the ball cross-court.
BAM!
It hit the floor.
Point: Us.
Score: 3-4.
Kenji let out a sharp whistle. "Damn, that felt good."
Izumi grinned. "That's our weapon."
Across the net, Seki raised an eyebrow.
Then—he smirked.
"Oh? You're not bad."
.
Seki stepped forward.
"Alright. My turn."
Chihaya's libero served.
Their setter, Oda, moved fast—but this time, he set the ball before Seki even jumped.
Seki took one explosive step—then launched himself.
His speed was insane.
I barely had time to react before—
BOOM!
The ball rocketed past our block.
Point: Chihaya.
Score: 3-5.
Kenji groaned. "Shit. He's fast."
Izumi muttered, "That's an understatement."
I clenched my fists.
'So this is what it's like to face someone at my speed.'
.
I turned to Kenji.
"Set me lower."
Kenji blinked. "Are you insane? We barely get the timing right as it is."
I grinned. "We'll get it right."
Kenji sighed. "Fine. Don't mess up."
The next play started.
Izumi received the serve—the ball floated up.
Kenji moved in, setting it even lower than before.
I sprinted—jumped—swung.
The ball barely cleared the blockers—but it was too fast for them to react.
BAM!
Point: Us.
Score: 4-5.
Seki narrowed his eyes.
I grinned at him.
'Your move.'
.
Oda smirked. "Yo, Seki. Let's switch it up."
Seki nodded. "Got it."
Kenji muttered, "Why do I feel like they just made a secret plan to kill us?"
Izumi gulped. "Because they probably did."
Chihaya's libero served.
Oda ran to set—but instead of a quick attack, he tossed the ball HIGH.
Kenji blinked. "Wait—"
Seki jumped late.
Instead of speed, he used height.
He soared above our blockers—
And then—
BOOM!
Point: Chihaya.
Score: 4-6.
I clenched my fists.
'They're not just fast. They're adaptable.'
Seki landed, shaking his head.
"Speed alone won't be enough, Hinata."
I smirked.
"Good. I like a challenge."
