Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Kiyoko New Image
The familiar routine of home, school, training, and classes passed by, and soon enough, Sunday arrived. The day they'd both been eagerly anticipating.
Hayato, determined to make the most of the day, dug out a set of casual clothes and, uncharacteristically, styled his hair with wax. After sending a quick message to Kiyoko, he left his house, feeling a little nervous but excited.
Today, he wore a sea-blue striped short-sleeved shirt, paired with a pure white vest underneath. His gray wide seven-point shorts and white high-top flat shoes gave him a relaxed, yet handsome appearance. He looked effortlessly sunny.
Soon, Kiyoko emerged from her house.
Her hair was styled differently from usual, and she wore light makeup. Today, Kiyoko had opted for contact lenses, and her lips were softly glistening, hinting at a touch of lip balm. She was dressed in a white off-the-shoulder blouse with lace details and a black, hip-hugging skirt that reached just above her knees. The blouse was tucked in, cinched with a small black belt, and paired with sheer pantyhose that hugged her straight, fair legs. Her white lace-up high-heeled sandals and pink-and-white handbag completed the look.
Hayato was completely stunned. He stood frozen for a moment, eyes wide.
"K-Kiyoko-nee??" he stammered, his words barely forming.
Kiyoko covered her mouth and chuckled, the sound light and infectious, drawing Hayato in even more.
"What, don't you recognize me?"
"No, it's not that, it's just... why are you so dressed up today? And Kiyoko-nee, you can show your legs now?"
Kiyoko smiled playfully. "Mm, Mom knew I was going on a date today and helped me pick this out. How does it look? Good?"
From the speed with which Hayato nodded—almost comically fast—it was clear her outfit had him completely mesmerized. Kiyoko grinned and continued.
"Didn't you say my scar isn't ugly? So, I decided to listen to your advice."
Hayato, still in awe, smiled warmly. "It looks amazing. Really, you look too good."
Kiyoko laughed, clearly pleased by his reaction. She linked her arm with his.
"So, where are we going next? Do you have a plan?"
Hayato snapped back to reality and puffed out his chest proudly. "Of course! Today I've got a detailed plan, guaranteed to make you happy!"
The pair walked arm-in-arm towards the train station, the excitement of their date building with each step.
Because it was Sunday, the train was packed, and Kiyoko's stunning appearance drew many glances from the other passengers. Luckily, Hayato's imposing presence kept most people at bay, as no one seemed eager to test the waters with someone well over 190 cm tall who looked perfectly capable of handling himself.
They eventually arrived at the aquarium, where Hayato pulled out the pre-purchased tickets.
First, they wandered through the exhibits, admiring the colorful marine life in the aquariums. Hayato, eager to show off the knowledge he'd quickly picked up, shared fun facts about the creatures, making Kiyoko laugh and listen intently.
The dim lighting and the soft glow from the tanks created an intimate atmosphere, and by the time they emerged from the exhibits, the pair had gone from casually linking arms to holding hands, fingers intertwined.
"So happy! Where to next?" Kiyoko exclaimed, eyes sparkling.
"How about we go see the dolphin show?" Hayato suggested with a grin.
"Really? Yes, let's go!"
Excited, Kiyoko tugged Hayato along towards the dolphin show venue.
They found a good spot in the middle, not too close to the water and not too far from the stage. The show soon began.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Aquarium Dolphin Show! Today, we have three adorable dolphins performing for you!" the announcer called out.
As the dolphins leapt from the water, Kiyoko clapped and cheered with delight. The dolphins did everything from balancing balls on their noses to jumping through hoops. Kiyoko's happiness was evident in every smile, and Hayato couldn't help but beam at her joy.
Finally, the show concluded, and Kiyoko was as satisfied as could be. Hayato, ever the gentleman, pulled out a handkerchief and gently wiped the water droplets from Kiyoko's hair.
"There's some water here from being splashed earlier. Let me clean it for you."
Kiyoko blinked up at him, slightly surprised. His smile, backlit by the sunlight, made him seem almost otherworldly.
"Mm, thank you," she murmured, twirling a finger around her temple to hide her shyness.
After the aquarium, Hayato led Kiyoko to a nearby mall. This time, they were going shopping for everyday clothes. Kiyoko hesitated a little at first.
"The clothes here are probably really expensive, aren't they?"
Hayato grinned confidently, his wallet in hand. "Don't worry, after reporting to my dad, he sent me some 'dating funds.'"
He shook the wallet for emphasis, letting Kiyoko know there was no need to worry. His father, who worked abroad, made more than enough money, and when he found out his son was going on a date, he'd generously transferred a sum of money for such occasions.
With a sizable sum now in his account, Hayato was feeling confident.
As they entered the store, the salespeople immediately noticed them—a handsome couple who practically screamed "premium customers." The salespeople rushed over, showering the pair with compliments and recommendations. Kiyoko, unsure of how to deal with their enthusiasm, seemed a bit overwhelmed, but Hayato noticed. He politely asked the salesperson to let them shop at their own pace.
The salesperson hesitated at first, but Hayato's intimidating height and steady gaze quickly convinced her to back off. She promised a discount if they decided to purchase anything, before retreating to the back of the store.
Kiyoko picked out a black and red baseball jacket for Hayato, and he was surprised to find it was very reasonably priced. It seemed she was being considerate of his finances, which made him smile.
After trying it on, Hayato stood in front of the mirror and checked himself out from top to bottom, then turned to Kiyoko for her opinion. She nodded approvingly.
"You look great in it," she said with a smile.
As Hayato suggested buying something for Kiyoko, she shook her head. But he didn't give up. Pretending they were getting matching outfits, he picked two T-shirts with cute cartoon cat designs—one for Kiyoko (a white cat) and one for himself (a black cat).
After checking out, they walked out of the store, paper bags in hand.
"We won't be wearing these clothes together just yet," Hayato said with a mischievous grin.
Kiyoko laughed. "Understood. But we'll wear them later. I just saw you, Kiyoko-nee, staring at that little cat two or three times."
They continued walking, their playful banter light and easy.
The next stop was a highly-rated sushi restaurant nearby, where Hayato intended to treat Kiyoko. However, just as they were about to enter, Kiyoko stopped.
"What's wrong, Kiyoko-nee?" Hayato asked, noticing her sudden hesitation.
Kiyoko seemed shy again, her usual boldness replaced by an awkwardness that reminded Hayato of the girl he'd known before they opened up to each other.
Finally, Kiyoko spoke, her voice small. "It's just… it's…"
Hayato looked around, then noticed they had stopped in front of a lingerie store. He quickly understood what was going on, and a faint blush spread across his cheeks.
"Um, Kiyoko-nee... you're not going to drag me in there to buy... buy things, are you?"
Kiyoko turned her head away, embarrassed. "Didn't you say my underwear wasn't cute enough before? Well, now it's your turn to pick. You can choose the underwear you think is cute."
