Chapter 153: Chapter 151: I Am Generous
Nighttime
Gotham
A city where light can never fully reach.
A chilling aura permeated every street and alley. Robberies unfolded at every turn, the criminals' sinister faces appearing even more twisted under the dim streetlights.
Gunfire erupted in rapid succession, bullets weaving through the narrow alleys, sparks flying upon impact.
In dark corners, drug deals were carried out in hushed tones, greedy eyes gleaming with an eerie light.
Human trafficking continued unabated, the cries of the innocent drowned out by the ceaseless noise of this crime-ridden city.
But every time Gotham faced a crisis, there was always one man who would appear to save it—Batman.
In the Sky
Batman piloted the Batwing, locking onto a black drone before opening fire.
Boom!
A massive fireball erupted in the sky above the city, briefly illuminating the dark skyline.
The citizens of Gotham glanced up at the explosion, then quickly lowered their heads, hurrying along their paths. Such scenes had become far too common for them to care.
After dealing with the drone threat, Batman was preparing to return to the Batcave when a desperate voice called out from below.
"Hey! Batman, help me...!"
Batman peered down and saw a man in a suit sitting on the ground, his face filled with panic as he frantically waved for help.
Opening the cockpit, Batman leaped down.
Boom!
Without any cushioning, he landed directly on the pavement. The sheer impact caused the ground beneath him to crack, leaving deep imprints of his feet as dust billowed around him.
The suited man froze, his mouth slightly open in shock. His eyes widened, utterly stunned by Batman's thunderous entrance.
Batman, realizing his dramatic entrance might have been too much, calmly explained, "Newly developed power boots. Are you alright? Any injuries?"
"Uh, I'm fine. Just my leg... Can you help me up, Batman?"
The man, seemingly convinced by Batman's explanation, spoke with a trembling voice.
"Of course. Let me check your injury."
Batman examined the man's crushed leg, then crouched down beside him, placing his hands on it.
Suddenly, the man's expression twisted with malice.
"Got you! Die, Batman!"
With a swift motion, he pulled out a dagger and thrust it toward Batman's temple.
Clang—
A metallic clang echoed as the dagger struck Batman's cowl.
The man looked at his bent and broken dagger in shock. His gaze shifted to the exposed flesh beneath Batman's damaged helmet, disbelief plastered across his face.
"Drone, you should consider yourself lucky."
Batman didn't even look up. His grip on the man's leg tightened.
"AAAAHHHHH! Stop! Please, stop!"
The man's screams of agony pierced the night. He flailed wildly, stabbing at Batman with the broken dagger.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
With a sickening series of cracks, every bone in his right leg was crushed to dust.
"AAAAAHHHH—!"
Batman remained unmoved, reaching for the man's other leg.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
The man groaned in pain before passing out, only to jolt awake from the sheer intensity of his suffering.
"You tried to take my life, yet I only broke both your legs. Isn't that generous of me?" Batman said calmly.
"W-who... are you?"
The man, drenched in sweat, trembled as he gazed at his now limp, noodle-like legs. His voice was barely a whisper.
Such brutality… Such strength… This was not Batman.
Batman glanced at him, slightly surprised.
Passing out for a few seconds, only to wake up again from pain?
In Gotham, even minor bosses had this level of willpower. He had overestimated things—this was just pain shocking him back to consciousness.
"I am the night. I am fear. I am Batman."
With that, Batman leaped back into his hovering Batwing and flew off.
On the ground, the man stared blankly at the sky, his nerves finally giving out. He fainted once more, only to wake up again in a cycle of relentless torment.
Inside the Batwing
Removing his helmet, Batman revealed himself as Kino. He shivered slightly.
"That was so awkward. How does Bruce come up with these lines?"
Despite the lingering coolness of his previous persona, Kino now looked slightly embarrassed.
Yes, Kino had decided to take part in crime-fighting as well.
How could he possibly miss out on such fun?
"I actually think it was pretty cool. But next time, try this—
'I am the eternal night. I am calamity. I am the Demon King!'
What do you think, Pamela?"
"Darling, I think it sounded amazing. Also, an electronic eye just captured an incredibly badass picture of you."
Venom and Pamela's voices came through the communicator.
"I'll give it a shot next time. But from now on, everyone has to say it."
Kino broadcasted over the comms, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
"Yes, Young Master."
"Understood, Boss."
"Boss definitely just felt embarrassed and now wants us to be embarrassed too."
A voice piped up, followed by silence. Then another voice muttered:
"Will, you idiot, your mic is still on."
"Ah! Sorry, Boss! I didn't mean it!"
Kino's voice remained calm. "It's fine. I'm not petty. But Will, tell me—when you stepped through the teleportation portal today, which foot did you use first?"
Still running across rooftops, Will sighed in relief at Kino's apparent leniency and answered without hesitation, "Right foot, Boss."
"Did you know I prefer leading with my left today? Will, when you get back, report to Hela for a week of hell training."
Kino's voice remained serene, yet it sent a chill down Will's spine. His foot slipped, and he tumbled into an alley before scrambling back up.
"Boss, please! Spare me!"
Will wailed, but Kino had already cut the transmission.
Soon, his teammates' voices chimed in to console him.
"Don't worry, Will. I'll help… help inject your healing medicine."
"Poor Will. Where's that luck you used to beat us?"
"Probably used it all up."
"Hahahaha!"
Laughter echoed through the comms, leaving Will on the verge of tears.
"Hey, what's so funny? Mind adding me in?"
A cheeky voice interrupted the chat.
Instantly, silence fell over the channel. One by one, the others disconnected.
"F***! Why is it silent? Is my radio broken? Out of battery? Even Batman's gear isn't reliable!"
Deadpool smacked his communicator before tossing it aside.
"Whatever. Time for business. This next fight will be glorious, darling—make sure to watch closely!"
Blowing a kiss toward the shadows, Deadpool smirked and donned his mask. He strutted toward Arkham, mimicking Batman's signature walk.
