Chapter 44: Chapter 44 - I Am Not a Hero!
As Keno and Venom strolled leisurely down the sidewalk, a deafening roar of an engine suddenly erupted from the distance. This was immediately followed by intense gunfire and the terrified screams of pedestrians.
Keno looked up and saw a black car speeding wildly down the street like an untamed beast.
At this insane speed, it would crash into innocent bystanders in mere seconds.
He had finally taken a honeymoon trip, and he did not want this unexpected chaos to ruin his moment.
Just as he was about to take action, a dazzling streak of yellow lightning flashed beside him. In the next instant, the entire world seemed to freeze in place.
The expressions of fear on the pedestrians' faces were suspended mid-scream. The incoming vehicle was frozen in its reckless charge. Even the bullets that had been fired into the air hung motionless.
The only ones unaffected were Keno, Venom, and the naked man standing beside them.
It was the Flash—Barry Allen. Hastily, he zipped into his red suit at an astonishing speed before he began moving people away at blinding speed.
When he reached Keno and Venom, Barry nervously wiped his hands on his suit, staring at Venom with a hint of admiration.
"I envy you so much. When will I ever find a girlfriend?" Barry sighed.
As he spoke, he reached out to grab Keno and Venom's arms—only to grasp at empty air.
"There's no need for you to bother with us," Keno replied casually.
Barry looked up, making eye contact with both of them.
His eyes widened in shock.
This was the first time he had ever met someone who could keep up with his speed.
Caught off guard, Barry unintentionally withdrew from the Speed Force.
"Ahhh!" The screams of terrified pedestrians resumed.
Barry snapped back to reality, realizing he had not finished evacuating the people. He was about to re-enter the Speed Force when his stomach growled loudly—he hadn't eaten lunch, and his energy was drained.
"I'll take care of it," Keno said, stepping forward.
Facing the incoming vehicle, he simply raised his foot—
Boom!
The car's airbags deployed instantly. The driver inside desperately stepped on the gas, but the tires screeched against the pavement, producing thick white smoke.
Barry stood to the side, watching in utter disbelief.
Although he could also stop a car, this level of raw physical strength was simply overwhelming.
The car finally came to a complete stop. The next moment, the doors were violently pushed open, and two armed robbers jumped out.
Their bloodshot eyes burned with rage.
"You ruined our job! Die!" one of them shouted.
They raised their guns and fired wildly at Keno.
Keno calmly extended his hand.
A series of afterimages flashed in the air as he effortlessly caught every single bullet. Within seconds, he had compressed them into a single metallic sphere.
"I will only say this once," Keno stated coldly. "Get on your knees and beg for mercy."
Instead of surrendering, the two robbers sneered and cursed even louder.
"Hah! What can you do to us? If you've got the guts, come at us!"
They swiftly changed magazines, preparing to fire indiscriminately at the crowd.
Before they could pull the trigger, Keno appeared right beside them, moving so fast that only a blur was left in his wake.
With minimal effort, he bent their gun barrels and lifted both men by their throats.
"Aren't you afraid of death?" Keno asked, his eyes as cold as ice.
The robbers scoffed.
"You superheroes never kill," one of them mocked. "If you have the guts, do it!"
They smirked, feeling triumphant.
Even though Superman had died, plenty of superheroes had emerged. Each had their own abilities, but none dared to kill, following in Superman's footsteps.
At most, they would end up in prison for a few days before getting out.
Keno, however, smiled in response.
"I never said I was a hero."
"W-What? You're not a hero?"
The realization finally dawned on them. Fear crept into their voices.
"Today, I'm on a date, so I won't kill you," Keno said slowly.
Just as the robbers were about to breathe a sigh of relief, his voice turned ice-cold.
"But whether you survive in hell is up to you."
Their faces drained of color.
"Wait, let's tal—"
Before they could finish, Keno let go.
A portal suddenly appeared beneath them. In the blink of an eye, both the robbers and their vehicle vanished.
When the robbers finally hit the ground, the sharp pain snapped them back to their senses.
"Haha! I knew it! We're not d—"
Their laughter abruptly stopped. Their eyes widened in horror.
They found themselves in a massive gladiator arena, completely surrounded by grotesque demons.
The demons eyed them curiously, as if inspecting a pair of fresh, intriguing prey.
"Boss… I think we're in hell," one of the robbers stammered.
"Is this a hallucination?" the leader wondered.
Before he could test that theory, a massive green figure suddenly rushed toward them.
Splat!
In an instant, they were reduced to nothing more than a bloody mist.
"HULK IS ANGRY!"
The Hulk roared, rising to his full height. Noticing the car that had appeared with the robbers, he reached out, splitting it cleanly in half.
With one half in each hand, he smashed the pieces together, producing a deafening boom.
"Come on, Hulk! Is that all you've got?!" the Abomination taunted.
He had noticed the robbers but paid them no mind.
"HULK… UNSTOPPABLE!"
The Hulk bellowed, launching himself forward like a moving mountain.
The Abomination stood his ground, enduring a brutal flurry of Hulk's punches. He staggered backward but grinned.
His exposed ribs began regenerating at an alarming rate, muscles bulging and swelling as if filled with air.
The previously sunken skin stretched taut over his growing mass, radiating a terrifying sense of power.
"My strength is increasing!" the Abomination roared.
With a single kick, he sent the Hulk crashing into the wall. Then, he lunged forward, pinning Hulk down and unleashing a relentless assault.
Each strike shattered the rocky walls behind them, sending lava pouring out. If not for the fact that this arena was reinforced by a mountain demon, it would have crumbled long ago.
Despite his current advantage, the Abomination knew he had little time.
If he failed to knock out the Hulk before his strength peaked, he would lose.
"Hulk, fight back!"
"Abomination, crush him!"
The surrounding demons cheered for their favored fighter, their voices shaking the entire arena.
At the highest seat in the stands, Sakuya observed the match. Beside him was an empty throne.
This gladiator pit had been the young master's idea. Since demons were overflowing with energy, this gave them a place to vent their frustrations.
And in the future, if the crowds grew, they could even charge for admission.
So far, the plan was working well.
The demons had become noticeably more obedient over time.
Meanwhile, Hulk's massive hands suddenly seized the Abomination's arm.
The Abomination immediately felt an unstoppable force locking him in place. His arm was completely immobilized.
He knew he had missed his chance.
With a violent headbutt, Hulk sent the Abomination tumbling to the ground.
The arena erupted in cheers.
"HULK! HULK!"
The chants echoed through the entire pit.
Hulk raised his arms triumphantly, relishing in the crowd's adoration.
He liked this place.
Moments later, the Abomination regained consciousness and reached out a hand.
Hulk grabbed it and pulled him up.
"You beat me again," the Abomination admitted. "You really are strong."
"HULK… UNSTOPPABLE!"
Though they had once been mortal enemies, fighting for so long had made them grow closer.
