Harry Potter: BE a GOD

Chapter 422: Chapter 423: Becoming a Tyrant

"Her Majesty has been having nightmares lately," Lady Yaga said. "She told me she enters someone else's life in her dreams."

"Dreams are extensions of the spirit world. Sometimes, when she delves too deep into her dreams, she would fall into a coma for a while."

Lady Yaga looked at Sophia, lying peacefully on the bed, her face serene, even her heartbeat and breathing as normal as ever. But in Murphy's sight, the colors representing her soul and magical power had already faded.

Her body was merely a shell; Sophia's soul was no longer within.

"Why didn't you stop her?" Murphy asked.

"The magic she used was beyond my understanding, and the fog kept us apart. Moreover, she had already told me about this 'moment of fate.' She was prepared for it, hoping her sacrifice would save the holy city."

Murphy vividly remembered the last time he traveled back in time, Sophia assured him the city was safe.

He hadn't realized that her definition of safety didn't include herself.

Murphy was unsure how to feel; he stood by the bed for a while before sending himself back ten hours.

First, he needed to complete the magical barrier cycle; second, he wanted clarity on the many mysteries of her actions.

However, Sophia didn't reveal anything substantial, stating "all secrets are known to him alone."

But one of her statements particularly struck him. She said Murphy didn't know everything yet because he hadn't met "her."

In Murphy's understanding, "her" undoubtedly referred to Millicent.

Thus, Murphy visited the Gate of the Departed. Now the Emperor of the holy city, he rightfully had access to this place.

Behind the gate, the vistas he once saw were gone. The spirit world, which should overlap with this space, seemed to have vanished. This realm of time and space became stable and real.

There, he found only an empty crystal coffin.

Inside the coffin, a small silver orb floated, emitting a soft white light. Murphy summoned it to his hand with a gesture.

"A prophecy orb?"

He was familiar with these; the Department of Mysteries had millions of prophecy orbs.

But why was there a prophecy orb here?

Before he could ponder further, countless voices echoed in his ears.

Old and young, crisp and hoarse, the voices of men, women, and children overlapped, as if millions were speaking at once.

Different voices in different languages made the sound chaotic, but gradually, he discerned a phrase they seemed to be repeating.

"I saw... the savior... born from death..."

Upon understanding the message, Murphy paused. The rest of the prophecy became clearer, "His darkness stems from the past years. The 'Seer' will grant him endless wisdom and leave the key to him in a secret chamber... He will solve the riddle, see the future... He will rise from death, walking the path of a savior..."

This...

This prophecy he concocted, once spoken by Professor Trelawney, now reemerged.

He initially thought the savior in the prophecy was Tom, but the latter was not here now.

Frowning, he noticed a note beneath the crystal ball in the coffin.

"AD 547. The Savior's Prophecy. Prophet: Merlin."

Only the royal family of Arkaim could enter and exit the Gate of the Departed, so this prophecy orb couldn't be a prank.

Was Sophia using this to hint something to him?

But if she wanted to convey information, there was no need for such a roundabout method. She could have told him directly during the time reversal.

The Seer Millicent wasn't here.

To meet her, he had to travel further back in time.

And the crystal ball indicated the time, "AD 547."

But the time converter could usually only go back five hours, stretching to ten hours at its limit.

To travel back fifteen hundred years would require an unimaginable amount of magical power.

Merely relying on the magical flow from one node wouldn't suffice. Perhaps, only by mobilizing the magical power of the entire world's magic network could such time travel be achieved.

...

Leaving the Gate of the Departed, Murphy met with Patrick Paa. They convened at what had been converted into the Presidential Residence at Number 10 Downing Street.

"The world situation is extremely tense now. The existence of gods has been exposed, and countries are greatly concerned about our use of space weapons and the attack on Brazil..."

Murphy nodded, "I know."

He had received countless reports of condemnation from various countries, even threats from the USA to use nuclear missiles to stop Sweden from launching more satellites.

"What are you planning to do?"

Murphy remained silent for a while, then sighed, "To be honest, I feel a bit tired. It seems no matter what I do, it's futile."

"Our enemies are not just the gods, but also their followers, and the countries that wish to stand behind the gods."

"And such people make up the vast majority of the world."

"Initially, developing magical technology aligned with the welfare of all humanity. Magical technology could benefit everyone, leading humanity towards a stronger future beyond achieving my personal goals."

"But now, it's different."

"The followers of the gods far outnumber us. Opposing the gods is equivalent to opposing the vast majority of humanity."

"We are enemies of the world."

Patrick looked at him, initially frowning, then sighed, "Rational followers, whether Muggles or wizards, are always in the minority. So, what will you do? If we back out now, we might face military tribunals."

Murphy stayed silent for a long while before saying, "Patrick, I might do something extremely crazy."

Patrick smiled, "Along the way, which of your actions wasn't crazy?"

Murphy smiled back, "True."

Standing up, his mood gradually steadied. He had known the answer for a while but hadn't made up his mind. Now, it was time to decide.

"I still believe I'm right. Faith in gods, the blind worship of idols and authority, will hinder the development of reason, kill human wisdom, and certainly block my path."

"Gods are enemies, no doubt about that. And so are their supporters!"

Murphy gazed at a globe on the table, "The gods' assaults are not carried out independently but with clear strategy and planning, suggesting they might be under a unified will."

"But we remain divided."

"Our actions even have to consider the impact on other countries. Our missiles, meant to protect people and combat the gods, could be intercepted by other nations

."

"With these people holding us back, we're bound to fail!"

Although Patrick had anticipated it, Murphy's words still made his heart race, "Do you mean... you want to..."

"Yes, I only have a year. I can't hesitate any longer."

"But... how?" Patrick asked, frowning. "We might be strong, but fighting the entire world is too difficult..."

"I already have a plan," Murphy said, looking out the window with a deep and somber gaze. "The shackles of thought can't be changed by ordinary means, and I don't have decades or centuries to gradually shift people's minds."

"Therefore, all I can resort to is pure violence."

"If becoming a tyrant is necessary to save humanity, then I will be that tyrant!"

"If they must believe in something to survive."

"Instead of believing in those gods. They might as well believe in me."
