Harry Potter: BE a GOD

Chapter 437: Chapter 438: Personal Vendetta

In Myrddin's story, Murphy had saved her when she was five years old and nearly burned at the stake.

Of course, Murphy still had no recollection of this event.

Time travel, Murphy was almost getting used to it, yet he couldn't shake the feeling of repaying debts for his future self.

He then inquired about the current state of the world, including Merlin and the giant dragon in the abyss.

"Merlin is actually a title," Myrddin explained, "representing the leader of the Knights of Merlin. The Knights have a long history, rumored to be at least a hundred or two hundred years. The Merlin you met is the current leader."

"The Knights of Merlin were originally established to protect wizards and Muggles from the oppression of the gods."

"But this generation's Merlin seems to have sided with the gods," Myrddin continued, "Maintaining a seemingly neutral stance, claiming to protect us from provoking the gods and causing greater disasters. However, I discovered he's executing a plan for a certain god."

It wasn't surprising for an organization with such a long history to have a traitor, Murphy thought, "What plan?"

"That dragon, named Nidhogg, was once worshiped as a malevolent deity by the Vikings in Finland and Norway. Somehow, it's trapped under Camelot. The Knights couldn't have done this on their own; there must be a powerful god supporting them."

"In recent years, with ongoing conflicts between Christians and local British faiths, I suspect Merlin has become an agent for the Christian god against local deities."

"Nidhogg is said to bring endless destruction and calamity. Perhaps Merlin and his god plan to use it against local deities, then let the Christian god reap the benefits."

Murphy nodded. Considering the legendary King Arthur was also a Christian, from a faith perspective, he might have been a pawn of the gods.

Faith wars, power struggles between gods, Murphy had little interest in these.

His enemy was all gods, not any single deity. Engaging in such wars would only weaken the gods against each other, not eradicate the divine collective.

"Myrddin, you know I come from the future, so you might guess why I'm here," Murphy said. "I'm seeking a method to banish gods. In my era, gods were expelled from the world. Do you know how it was done, or who and when? Did Sofia tell you anything?"

Sofia said understanding would come upon meeting Myrddin, perhaps holding answers Murphy sought.

Myrddin paused, then looking at Murphy, said, "Lord Murphy, to my knowledge, the one who expelled the gods might be you yourself."

Murphy was taken aback, "Me?"

He had made a significant effort to travel from the future to the past seeking a method to expel gods, only to find he might have been the one to do it.

"How was it done?" Murphy asked, frowning. "What did Sofia tell you?"

"Sofia didn't know, and neither do I," Myrddin said. "You didn't involve others in that plan because gods can see and hear through their followers, omnipresent. Any trace left in the world can be detected by them."

"Only you, coming from outside time, invisible to gods, could keep the plan secret, not disclosing your actions to anyone."

"All I can tell you is the fact that you accomplished this feat."

---

Murphy sat on the hillside, gazing at the distant mountains and the lake below.

The hillside was rugged with stones and overgrown with weeds. The lake shimmered, occasionally disturbed by a flock of birds. A gentle breeze blew, the world in utter tranquility.

This was the Lake District. In the future, a village would sit by the lake, surrounded by docks and boathouses. But now, no one resided here, the world belonged solely to him.

In this silence, Murphy pondered Myrddin's words.

It was unlikely she lied. After reading Godric Gryffindor's memories, Murphy realized that wizards in this world had normalized the existence of gods.

The Knights of Merlin, the largest wizard group known to Gryffindor, also had no intention of opposing the gods, originally established for self-preservation under divine oppression.

If even the top wizards weren't willing to fight the gods, who could expel them?

Murphy had hoped for a ready example, but it seemed he must solve this puzzle himself.

But how to combat such divine forces?

The power of the dragon in Camelot's abyss, vast as the ocean, far surpassed any god Murphy had encountered in the future. Yet, this powerful deity was still imprisoned, suggesting the Christian god, merely one among many powerful deities, possessed overwhelming control.

Without modern weaponry, how could he stand against such power?

For a moment, Murphy felt his journey to the past was meaningless.

His reliance on technology to analyze and amplify magic, expanding magical limits and deepening its impact, gave him strength far beyond ordinary wizards, effective only under a high-tech future environment.

Perhaps he shouldn't have traveled to the past but to the future, where the domain wasn't ruled by gods, and where the solution might lie.

No, that's not right.

Time isn't so simple. In the four-dimensional spacetime, the future is an uncollapsed wave function, with no method to jump directly without a continuous path.

Besides, even if such a method existed, it would only be avoiding difficulties, just as his journey to the past was an attempt to delegate the solution to others.

And that's unfeasible.

Myrddin explicitly stated that the one who expelled the gods was himself.

Whether past or future, ultimately, he had to solve this problem.

Because it was his own predicament.

The existence of gods doesn't significantly impact others; it's his path that's incompatible with theirs.

This is his fate, unrelated to humanity's collective destiny, a personal duel.

A personal vendetta, naturally, cannot be outsourced.

"Sigh..."

Murphy exhaled and stood up.

The breeze lifted his robe as his gaze sharpened towards the horizon.

"If this task can only be accomplished by me, then I must have a unique trait."

"Myrddin said, in this world, I'm a visitor from beyond time."

"My uniqueness, perhaps, lies in time."

"The gods of now are immensely powerful, but what about the original gods?"

"Maybe, I should look even further back in time."
