Chapter 186: Chapter 186: Dumbledore and Grindelwald
As the two boys walked, the scene quietly shifted. It seemed to be a new day, and their clothing was slightly different.
They sat beneath a tree, the orange-red glow of the setting sun reflected in their eyes.
"For the greater good… I like that phrase."
The blond boy, Grindelwald, said while reclining casually on the grass. He stretched his hand toward the sky as if trying to grasp the entire world in his palm.
"Albus, only you understand my thoughts. Only you can truly comprehend what I want."
"I want to abolish the Statute of Secrecy, let wizards rule the world, and allow every wizard to freely use their abilities! No more oppression, no more hiding, no more enduring the disgust and contempt of Muggles!"
"Don't forget, rulers must bear responsibility for all their people," the young Dumbledore emphasized. "Not just wizards, but also the majority of Muggles."
"Those greedy, foolish Muggles?" Grindelwald sneered with disdain. "Think about what they did to your family."
"I know. I also hate—sometimes even despise—certain Muggles."
The young Dumbledore admitted with a furrowed brow.
"But we must acknowledge that most Muggles aren't evil. They possess remarkable intelligence and abilities. Even if we gain the power to rule, we must maintain societal stability and treat Muggles fairly."
"We fight for the future of wizards, and we must not cower. But blind slaughter is not the way either. Gellert, we should minimize sacrifice—on both sides, whenever possible."
"You're a bit too naive, Albus."
Seeing Dumbledore's displeased expression, the young Grindelwald smiled in a conciliatory way.
"Of course, I wouldn't become some mindless murderer. Muggles have their uses… If they're willing to accept my rule, I can be merciful toward them."
Young Dumbledore smiled, and appeared unconcerned that Grindelwald might deceive or dismiss him.
"Then Ariana could live more freely, without always being hidden away," he said with a hopeful smile. "If possible, I'd even want her to be cured. Perhaps I could find a way to help her recover…"
"If we can find the Hallows, then anything is possible!"
Grindelwald spoke with optimism and an almost hypnotic conviction.
"Imagine it! Bringing the dead back to life, curing the sick, creating a new order for the wizarding world—our utopia…"
"As long as it's the two of us… Albus, as long as we stand together… there's nothing we cannot achieve… nothing that can stop us…"
The two boys dreamt of their future together, discussing how to seize power after leaving Godric's Hollow, where to search for the Hallows, and how to achieve their ultimate goals.
Their faces were lit with confident smiles, filled with trust in each other, as though victory was within their grasp.
Until a voice interrupted them.
"Albus."
A scruffy, thin, tall boy shot an unfriendly glare at Grindelwald before turning to young Dumbledore and saying, "Ariana wants to see you."
Grindelwald's expression turned dismissive and contemptuous.
The interruption left young Dumbledore visibly displeased, but he quickly stood up and walked toward the newcomer.
"Is Ariana upset?" he asked.
"Yes," the thin boy replied. "I've calmed her down, but she misses you."
The two walked away together, leaving Grindelwald behind. His expression darkened with irritation.
---
"That was my brother, Aberforth."
The old Dumbledore's soft voice broke the silence and said to Wade, who was standing beside him. "Ariana is our younger sister. Wade, do you know what an Obscurial is?"
Wade nodded and said, "I learned about it from Mr. Scamander—"
"A child with magical abilities, if subjected to abuse or taught to hate their magic, can develop a parasitic force called an Obscurus. It's an unstable, uncontrollable, dark power."
"Obscurials usually don't survive past the age of ten, and they shouldn't be confused with Obscuruses themselves. But in extreme cases, an Obscurial can fully transform into an Obscurus."
During his time at Scamander's home, Wade had read books about Obscuruses. It was said that young Newt Scamander had once preserved an Obscurus by special means, though Wade hadn't seen it himself.
Dumbledore nodded and said, "Newt is perhaps one of the world's foremost experts on Obscurus."
He paused for a moment before continuing. "Ariana was an Obscurial. When she was young, she unintentionally displayed her magical abilities and was cruelly abused by three Muggle boys. From that moment on, she lost control of her magic…"
---
Wade also caught a glimpse of the young girl.
She was actually older than Wade's current body's age, but her timid expression and deep blue eyes, as clear as a pristine lake, gave her an air of innocence and purity, like that of a child.
The girl huddled in a corner, and heard the fierce argument erupted between the three boys in the room.
"No way! You can't take her with you! In her condition, how could she survive such a journey? You're insane!"
Aberforth shouted angrily, "You'd better give up on those ridiculous plans of yours! I'll never allow it!"
Dumbledore remained silent, while Grindelwald sneered and said, "You foolish little boy, you can't even comprehend how extraordinary your brother is. All you want is to be a stumbling block for him and me!"
"Don't you understand? Once we change the world and bring the Muggles to heel, wizards will no longer have to hide. Your sister will finally be able to live openly and freely."
"Get out, you Durmstrang lunatic!" Aberforth snapped without hesitation. "You vile, deranged bastard, you've bewitched my brother into thinking your evil schemes are some kind of great idea! Get out of my house, Grindelwald!"
"Shut up, Aberforth!" Dumbledore said sharply.
But Grindelwald's expression had already turned terrifying. Without hesitation, he drew his wand and pointed it at Aberforth—
"Crucio!" (Cruciatus Curse)
The frail boy was caught off guard and fell to the ground, screaming in agony.
"Gellert, stop! Stop this now!"
Dumbledore drew his wand and struck down Grindelwald, who wore a twisted expression of rage.
He reached out to help his brother up, but Aberforth shoved him away roughly and immediately drew his own wand, sending a curse hurtling toward Grindelwald.
With a thunderous crash, the room descended into chaos. Dumbledore tried to intervene, but the two furious boys were unwilling to stop.
Aberforth, clearly resentful of his brother for not siding with him, even aimed a spell at Dumbledore, further infuriating Grindelwald.
Blinding flashes of curses, shouts of pain, and furious yelling echoed through the room.
None of them wanted to listen to reason; they were too consumed by their emotions, venting their fury through the violent clash of magic.
"No… no…"
In the corner, Ariana trembled violently, her face was streaked with tears. Her eyes turned an eerie white as her condition visibly worsened, but none of the boys noticed her at all.
Black mist began to seep from her body.
Wade suddenly grasped Dumbledore's hand beside him and softly said, "You should know… You don't have to relive this."
