Chapter 23: Of Mist, Mountain, and Lingering Echoes
"I saw many statues adjacent to the statue that is connected to our mansion, what are those for?" Aaric asked Thimrill.
"You have other properties around the world and it connects you to them?" Thimrill said and gestured to a certain statue of a Zouwu and said, "This one leads to China..."
"So, if I just go to China, where will I appear? And what if the property that was for me is being occupied by someone else?" Aaric was excited right now.
Thimrill shook his head. "That doesn't happen, as each of your properties have guardians guarding them."
Aaric ran off to find his family as he found Simon training with his sword. He just took the man by hand and started dragging him. They then reached Edwina as she was tending to some plants and Harry was near her, by the pond.
"We are going to China," Aaric said bluntly as he gathered the three.
Edwina flicked his forehead. "Is this your latest prank or something?"
Aaric rubbed his forehead and explained everything.
"Why begin with China?" Simon asked.
"No reason, I chose at random and I am curious about the Chinese wizarding community as they have the highest muggle population. That means the highest wizarding population too."
The parents thought for a moment and agreed in the end.
"Well, let's pack," Edwina concluded as they all went to pack their stuff.
They all placed their hands on the statue and off they went.
"Welcome, my lords and lady. I am pleased to present the Frostroot Hollow."
In front of them was a woman in white robes. She had pale skin and black hair. As her robe ends, it seemed that it ended in mist, dissipating into the environment.
"I am Shenlian, a Yǐnghun—A sentient spirit formed from wind-bonded mountain mist and ancestral guidance magic," her voice was soft and smooth, and she introduced herself with a bow.
"Hello, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Can you tell us where we are?" Edwina questioned.
They were in the hidden plateau at the northern edge of Yunnan, where alpine jungle meets high-mountain mist—a cold area most of the year. The house was more like a Chinese-style courtyard; it was huge and had a lake and fifteen rooms.
"We were curious, where is the nearest wizarding settlement here?" Aaric asked.
"There is the Sacred Alchemy Sect associated near us. I have a good relationship with them as I am considered the ancestral spirit and guardian of the nearby areas. We can visit them and have a little cultural exchange, if you wish," she explained.
"How about we go tomorrow? We stay and explore here for today and visit them tomorrow," Edwina suggested.
They all agreed and Shenlian prepared food for them as they set up the dining area near the lake.
The courtyard was huge enough to house some magical beasts and had a perpetual mist around it that gave it a vibe of being a little isolated from the outside. The magical capacity here was comparable to the Nightshade Castle.
A bird then appeared around the family. It had black feathers and was the size of an eagle.
"It is a Lingniao, my magical beast companion. She was created by a ritual and has the properties of a phoenix and a spirit," explained Shenlian as the bird stood on the table and the family started playing with it.
They had dinner and went out exploring for a little bit as they found they were completely surrounded by jungles, and they saw many magical beasts native to China. The beasts were not attached to the family like in the Nightshade Castle but were docile and friendly around Shenlian, and in turn, they were friendly with the family she was with right now.
A/n: very short chapter this one.
