Harry Potter: From Young Wizard to White Devil

Chapter 21: Potions - 1

In the days that followed, Vaughn's life at Hogwarts gradually settled into a steady rhythm.

He attended classes regularly, responded to professors' questions, and absorbed their feedback with enthusiasm, feeding his thirst for knowledge.

On the very first day of Charms class, Vaughn earned high praise from Professor Flitwick for his exceptional mastery of the Levitation Charm. The diminutive Charms Master—rumored to have goblin ancestry—also took time to examine Vaughn's class notes.

However, he did not invite Vaughn to join his Charms Club.

"Your magic is still developing, Mr. Vaughn Weasley," Professor Flitwick said in his high-pitched voice. "Young wizards of your age should focus on deepening their understanding of basic spells before venturing into more advanced research."

He smiled kindly and added, "But I promise that when you reach third year, I'll extend an invitation—if you're not too busy, that is. The Transfiguration Club may already demand a great deal of your energy."

To show his appreciation for Vaughn's spellwork, he awarded Slytherin 20 house points on the spot.

This made Vaughn especially pleased.

He was determined not to miss any chance to earn points, because the system had unlocked a new objective following Main Quest 1!

[Main Quest 2: Help Slytherin win the House Cup by the end of the school year]

[Reward: 1 Talent Point, 50 Scale Magic]

It sounded simple enough—but anyone familiar with future events would know this task was hellishly difficult…

After all, the greatest white wizard in the world was actively shaping his Chosen One—and had no shame in blatantly awarding points to him.

Even though it would only happen this once in the coming years, it directly clashed with Vaughn's quest. He hadn't figured out a perfect strategy yet, but he wasn't going to give up. For now, hard work would have to suffice.

Two days later, Vaughn endured his first mind-numbing History of Magic class—Professor Binns's hypnotic monotone was truly a marvel. Vaughn managed to stay awake for half the class before succumbing to sleep, and ironically, earned 5 points for 'good engagement.'

Though Professor Binns did call him by the wrong name.

He also experienced an unremarkable Astronomy class. Allegedly, Astronomy remained a core subject due to its foundational role in Divination.

Respecting his system-assigned "Divination Talent: 2," Vaughn shamelessly recycled astronomy knowledge from his past life, astonishing Professor Sinistra. She was only puzzled by his debate over whether the solar system had eight or nine planets.

Professor Sprout's Herbology class, on the other hand, was thoroughly enjoyable.

Naturally, she didn't allow first-years to handle magical plants just yet. Instead, she gave them a guided tour of the Hogwarts greenhouses, introducing the magical flora growing there.

However, what truly fascinated the students wasn't the plants themselves, but the greenhouses.

They were enchanted with Extension Charms and divided into simulated environments like forests, wetlands, highlands, and deserts, catering to various plants' unique habitats.

It felt like stepping into a dream.

In that class, Vaughn and Hermione each earned 20 points by reciting textbook knowledge, but the true surprise was Neville, who displayed a natural affinity for Herbology and gained 10 points for Gryffindor.

Fortunately for Slytherin, Fred and George lost Gryffindor 20 points later that evening with one of their corridor pranks.

Thank Merlin!

As for Defense Against the Dark Arts, it was taught by Professor Quirrell—the nervous man with a turban perpetually reeking of garlic.

His teaching left much to be desired. He merely read straight from the textbook and was visibly uncomfortable when students asked deeper questions.

When Seamus Finnigan asked about his supposed triumph over a reanimated zombie, Professor Quirrell sputtered into vague nonsense.

Vaughn stepped in and smoothly saved the moment. Grateful, Quirrell awarded Slytherin 10 points.

Then, moments later—perhaps due to forgetfulness or darker influence—he awarded another 10 points to Slytherin for the same incident.

Ron and Harry later joked: "…He's probably been drained by a vampire!"

But Vaughn knew better. The second round of points was likely Voldemort's doing. Even as a fragment of a soul, the Dark Lord's love for Slytherin—and Hogwarts—ran deep.

His greatest wish had been to teach at Hogwarts, and when that was denied, he cursed the Defense Against the Dark Arts position out of spite.

If he couldn't have it, no one could. Now that's love.

Friday rolled around at last—the final class of the week: Potions!

Ron and Harry were already anxious early that morning.

"I'm telling you, Snape doesn't like me," Harry muttered. "The way he looked at me at the Welcome Feast... it was creepy!"

"Don't be stupid," Ron scoffed. "He looks at everyone like they owe him 500 Galleons. I heard he's totally biased toward Slytherin. Vaughn must be thrilled."

Ron's expression soured as he glanced at the Ravenclaw table. That's right—Vaughn was sitting with Ravenclaws today.

Before the first week was even over, first-years had identified the oddest student in their ranks: Vaughn Weasley.

On the first day, sitting with Gryffindor seemed natural for a Weasley. But by the second day, everyone realized they'd misjudged him.

He joined the Hufflepuff table, mingled happily with the so-called 'silly Hufflepuff badgers,' and reportedly even entered the Hufflepuff common room that night.

(This rumor had actually come from Ron, after Vaughn casually mentioned that the Hogwarts kitchens were located right beside the Hufflepuff common room.)

And so, before the first week concluded, Vaughn Weasley had visited every single house table. Now, each morning at breakfast, students would instinctively scan their own table to see where the red-haired boy had landed today.

The trend quickly spread across all year groups and became a sort of daily Hogwarts ritual.

The strangest part? Wherever Vaughn went, there was always someone who welcomed him warmly.

Malfoy (albeit reluctantly) in Slytherin, Cedric in Hufflepuff, and more than a few friends in Gryffindor.

And at the Ravenclaw table, Head Girl Penelope's musical laughter rang out, drawing another sour look from Ron.

"Ugh, he's been obsessed with hanging out with girls since he was little. He hasn't changed one bit." As he grumbled, Hermione suddenly snapped her book shut.

"Then, as his brother, why don't you talk to him instead of sitting here whining?" she said sharply. "All you do is gossip and complain! If you're so sure Snape's going to be unfair, why don't you prepare? We've been in class for a week!"

With that, she stormed off, book in hand.

Ron sat stunned. "What did I do? It's not like I told Vaughn to flirt with everyone. Why's she yelling at me? Just wait. I bet she'll be all smiles with him in Potions."

And indeed, he was right.

In Potions class, Vaughn sat beside Hermione again. With just a few words, he had her smiling brightly. Ron and Harry, meanwhile, could find no joy because another of their predictions had also come true.

"Ah, Harry... Potter!" In the cold, dark dungeon, Professor Snape stood half-shrouded in shadow, his eyes locked on Harry's with chilling intensity.
