Harry Potter: Journey to Godhood

Chapter 434: Chapter 434: Death of Guardian

The anti-magic effect of the Infinity Blade not only nullifies most magical defenses but, when actively triggered, prevents the target from casting spells or causes spell failure.

However, the second effect is somewhat impractical as it only takes effect when the sword is embedded in the target's body.

But in most cases, when the sword is already impaled, even the most powerful mage wouldn't live long enough to cast a spell.

Thus, this effect had never been put to significant use—until now.

The activated anti-magic rune not only nullified Medivh's magic but also caused severe magical backlash against him.

The expression on Medivh's face was one of astonishment, even shock. He struggled to speak, his mouth opening and closing as he tried to form words.

Alaric could sense that the faint traces of life left in the figure before him were about to dissipate completely.

He hesitated for a moment before pulling out the Infinity Blade and then gently laying Medivh on his back.

Aegwynn hurried to Alaric's side. Together, they knelt beside Medivh, Aegwynn's eyes brimming with tears.

Medivh stared at the two of them for a long moment before laboriously taking a breath and finally speaking.

"I... I think I understand who you are. Thank you," he said, his voice no longer the guttural demonic tones of Sargeras nor the male voice familiar to Lothar and Khadgar, but rather his original voice—a soft and gentle tone, strikingly similar to Aegwynn's.

Then, he turned to Aegwynn.

"I'm sorry, Mother. I tried my best to resist him..."

At last, the astral mage's eyes dimmed, their light extinguished.

Alaric immediately took out a Soulstone and began casting Necromancy's pinnacle spell—Soul Binding.

Aegwynn, by his side, joined him in weaving magic.

Through the use of a special visual spell, Alaric saw a female soul emerge from the astral mage's body. The soul smiled warmly at him before, under the effect of Soul Binding, willingly entered the Soulstone without resistance.

The soul's appearance, strikingly similar to Aegwynn's, left no doubt—it was indeed Medivh's soul.

As soon as the physical body perished and the soul entered the Soulstone, Medivh's soul remained completely intact and pure.

Given the strength of her soul, she could be reborn into this world without any side effects, provided her new body was of sufficient quality.

At the moment the soul departed the body, the astral mage's face began to distort. His beard ignited into flames, and a pair of horns protruded from his brow.

With Medivh's death, Sargeras finally revealed his true form. Alaric felt a surge of heat emanating from the corpse before him as Medivh's body ignited, the flames transforming it into a manifestation of shadow and fire.

"What a pity. I didn't want to resort to this," Alaric sighed, pocketing the Soulstone. Rising to his feet, he raised the Infinity Blade high and brought it down with force.

The sword's edge met the demon's neck, unleashing a blinding radiance akin to the midday sun, cleanly severing the demonic head.

This motion was like uncorking a bottle of soda—the contents of Medivh's body erupted from the neck wound, a torrent of energy and light, shadow and flame, smoke and fury spewing forth like a volcanic eruption. It splattered across the walls of the chamber before dissipating without a trace, as if it had never existed.

Alaric caught a glimpse of the seething energy forming a face—a demon's visage with horns protruding from its forehead. The face struggled, letting out an enraged, despairing howl.

Before completely vanishing, the demon glared fiercely at Alaric.

Alaric knew it was Sargeras' soul. The true power of demons resided in the Twisting Nether; those killed in the physical universe would inevitably regenerate in the Nether. Sargeras was no exception. Preventing the departure of this soul was impossible.

And now, Sargeras had firmly remembered him.

—What bad luck. Getting on the radar of the ultimate boss.

Alaric shook his head with a wry smile, though he felt no regret. According to the original timeline, Sargeras' true body wouldn't reach Azeroth for at least another 31 years, around the year 34 after the opening of the Dark Portal.

That was more than enough time for him to prepare.

When everything was over, what remained before them was merely the tattered skin and clothing of the astral mage.

Everything else within his body had been consumed by the demon fire. Once his body cracked open, the remnants could no longer hold their form.

For centuries, no Guardian had died in battle, let alone been controlled by a demon. Medivh's death was anything but simple—it triggered catastrophic consequences. Sargeras' vile energy backflooded into the arcane energy circuits of Karazhan and erupted from the tower.

The destructive nature of fel energy upon the material world was fatal. Soon, everything around Karazhan became tainted by fel energy, turning the area into a dangerous wasteland. The earth could no longer nurture life; trees withered, and all living creatures perished.

"This is... horrifying," Alexstrasza murmured as she surveyed the surroundings, a lingering fear in her voice. "The harm fel energy causes to life is immeasurable. I can't imagine what would happen if Sargeras succeeded."

The Life-Binder transformed back into her dragon form and began flying around the tower, spraying life-infused flames across the land in an attempt to restore its vitality.

Ysera also took her dragon form, using her mastery over nature to assist Alexstrasza.

However, they ultimately failed.

Karazhan was a nexus in Azeroth's ley lines. Through its corruption, the fel energy had already tainted the ley lines in the surrounding area.

Though Azeroth's powerful magical currents would eventually dilute the vast fel energy over time, the pollution near Karazhan would persist for years to come.

For now, Alexstrasza's flames could only mitigate the harmful effects of the fel energy on life, but they could not allow life to flourish here again.

It might take centuries for the area around Karazhan to recover.

While Alexstrasza focused on combating the fel pollution, Aegwynn's attention was on Medivh's remains—or what could be considered his remains.

Alaric worked alongside her to gather all the pieces of the astral mage's body, placing them into a small box. They sealed it with layers of powerful magic and buried it deep within the earth.

The "remains" were not solely Medivh's but also bore traces of Sargeras.

Their powers had been so deeply intertwined that even Medivh's body contained remnants of the Demon King's energy.

Not even Aegwynn dared to let such remains linger in the world.
