Harry Potter: My Life as Hermione’s Houseguest

Chapter 18: 《Harry Potter: My Life as Hermione》Chapter 18: Full Agency

"Uncle Hagrid, how much did you say you sold a whole bag of unicorn hair for?!" Qin Yu forced himself to keep his composure, but his voice came out through clenched teeth.

He could feel a fire blazing in his chest, threatening to burst out of him and scorch the whole room.

As he'd suspected, Hagrid had invited him over for tea with the intent of repaying some of his debt—not to borrow more. But the way Hagrid had earned that money left Qin Yu feeling utterly exasperated.

"Two Galleons a bag. Why?" Hagrid replied, looking genuinely puzzled.

He could sense that the boy in front of him was less than pleased, but he was here to pay back money—at least a portion of it—so shouldn't that make the kid happy?

So Hagrid was thoroughly confused.

"Why? You're seriously asking why?!" Qin Yu's anger was barely contained.

He took a sip of tea to soothe his dry throat, then tried to keep his tone as calm as possible. "Do you have any idea that a small bag of unicorn hair fetches ten Galleons in Diagon Alley?"

"I suppose… that sounds about right," Hagrid admitted, scratching his head.

"And you just sold it to those Hogsmeade profiteers for two Galleons?!" Qin Yu groaned, his voice rising with disbelief.

"Well, it was just convenient to sell to them. They took some other things too. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to scrape together fifty Galleons to pay you back," Hagrid explained, trying to justify himself.

"I'm not in any rush to get my money back! I'd rather wait than see you sell off something you worked so hard to collect for a pittance!" Qin Yu said, his frustration clear.

As a classic Taurus, he valued money—but even more, he couldn't stand seeing himself or his friends get cheated out of what they deserved. Taking a loss was the one thing he hated most.

"Er, I've always sold to him like that, really… it's not so bad…" Hagrid mumbled.

"Not so bad?!" Qin Yu shot him a fierce look.

"Alright, alright, it's not good! It's really not good!" Hagrid quickly corrected himself.

For some reason, Hagrid felt it was safer to just agree with whatever this boy said—otherwise he might actually explode on the spot.

Seeing Hagrid so flustered, Qin Yu realized he'd let his emotions get the better of him. He took a breath and apologized, "Sorry, Hagrid. I got a bit carried away, but I really am worried about you. How could you just sell something so precious so casually?"

"It's just… well, just some animal hair, not that special… I mean, very special! All of it's precious!" Hagrid caught himself, then sighed. "But you know, I've never been good at business."

He wasn't wrong. Hagrid was always collecting bits and bobs—fur, eggshells, shed skins—from magical creatures, but he never treated it as a business. He'd just gather a pile and take it to Hogsmeade, sell it off for a few coins, then spend it on butterbeer at the Hog's Head or on chocolate and fudge at Honeydukes.

It was just his nature—he'd never been good with people, which was part of why he preferred animals.

"Actually, that's exactly what I wanted to talk to you about. I want to be your full agent for all the magical creature byproducts you collect! What do you think?" Qin Yu looked at Hagrid with open, earnest eyes.

"Full agent?" Hagrid echoed, still a bit lost.

"Yeah! I'll handle selling everything for you. We split the profits. I promise, you'll make way more than selling it off as junk," Qin Yu explained simply.

Looking at this eleven-year-old, Hagrid couldn't help but feel—maybe it was just his imagination—that the boy seemed more mature and businesslike than he was.

"Sounds pretty good…" Hagrid said, perking up.

No one had ever offered him anything like this before. Kids from rich wizarding families looked down on making money, and poor kids were too busy studying. Who else had a "grown-up" head for business like Qin Yu?

With no talent for business and no one to help, Hagrid—a magical creature keeper with endless potential—was still dirt poor. Sitting on a mountain of gold, yet barely scraping by.

And now, Qin Yu's arrival filled that gap perfectly. Hagrid remembered how the boy had haggled for him before—he was clever, reliable, and sharp.

After a few simple questions about how to cooperate (to which Qin Yu answered, "Just keep collecting things like you always do"), Hagrid happily agreed, making Qin Yu his official agent on the spot.

Qin Yu hadn't expected the deal to go through so easily—he was a little surprised.

But then he thought about it: Hagrid was honest and sincere. He must really trust him. The weight of responsibility settled on Qin Yu's shoulders.

"Don't worry, Hagrid—I promise, we're going to make a fortune!" Qin Yu declared solemnly.

"Haha, I don't know about a fortune. As long as I have enough to buy the magical creatures I want, I'll be happy," Hagrid chuckled.

With the partnership sealed, Qin Yu converted the remaining 185 Galleons of debt into an advance for "procurement and agency fees"—which left Hagrid delighted. No more debt hanging over his head!

After ironing out details like settlement cycles, Qin Yu suggested Hagrid recruit some helpers to sort and store the collected goods. Hagrid thought this was a brilliant idea and agreed right away.

So Qin Yu sent out—not a signal arrow, but—a trusty owl, summoning George and Fred Weasley.

"Why'd you call those two troublemakers? I had a headache all last year trying to keep them out of the Forbidden Forest," Hagrid grumbled when the twins arrived.

"Oi! That's only because you wouldn't let us have any fun!"

"Yeah, the school's not that big. Why shouldn't we go into the Forbidden Forest?"

The twins piped up, full of righteous indignation.

Before things could escalate, Qin Yu quickly stepped in and explained why he'd called them.

"Huh? You want us to do this?"

"Didn't your letter say there was some major business deal?"

George and Fred sounded disappointed.

When the owl delivered Qin Yu's letter, they'd thought he had a groundbreaking business plan to share. They'd come running, only to find out he wanted them to help tend animals and collect fur—plain old grunt work.

But Qin Yu knew these two wouldn't be satisfied with a few empty words.

So he looked them dead in the eye and asked, "What do you think is the most important thing in business?"

"A good idea! Like your shared flying broomstick scheme!" George was still obsessed with that novel business model.

"Capital! Without money, even the best ideas won't get off the ground!" Fred disagreed with his brother for once.

Qin Yu nodded. "You're both right—those things are important."

He let them stew in confusion for a moment, then continued, "But I think the most important thing is talent—talented people with business sense, like you two!"

That made the twins light up, beaming with pride. They even glanced at Hagrid, hoping he'd heard Qin Yu's praise.

"But right now, you're not quite mature, qualified businesspeople yet," Qin Yu added, changing tack.

"Why not?" they demanded in unison.

"Because you lack experience! No one's born a great businessman. You grow bit by bit, learning from small things, broadening your horizons, building your network. Don't look down on the work here—it may seem like just collecting magical creature byproducts, but it's the perfect way to grow fast!" Qin Yu said, his voice steady and persuasive.

Seeing the twins still mulling it over, he pressed on. "Taking on Hagrid's agency isn't just about the work—it's about building a team and making connections! Think about it: if you can handle collecting, sorting, and selling all these goods, you'll have real experience for the future. More importantly, you'll meet all sorts of customers—wand shop owners, potion masters, magical booksellers, magical researchers, even stewards of great wizarding families. Every one of them could be a future partner."

By now, George and Fred's eyes were shining.

Qin Yu struck while the iron was hot, his voice low and full of promise: "Imagine one day, you're capable of handling any business challenge that comes your way. Imagine your friends and clients spread across Britain, all of Europe—even the world! When that day comes, what could possibly stop you?"

What could possibly stop you?

His words hit the twins like a thunderclap. They weren't fools—in fact, they were sharp, especially when it came to business. Now, with Qin Yu's guidance, it was as if a door had opened before them. Their vision expanded, their ambition soared.

Yes—they needed to train themselves. Yes—they needed to build their network.

And when they did, there would be nothing they couldn't accomplish!

George and Fred exchanged a fiery glance, then turned that blazing look on Qin Yu.

"Qin, are those two about to go wild? They look more like creatures from the Forbidden Forest than students…" Hagrid whispered, watching the twins rush off to work.

"No, Hagrid—they're burning with passion for their dreams!" Qin Yu replied with a grin.

"Oh." Hagrid nodded, half-understanding.

Ah, youth. How wonderful.

With a sigh, Qin Yu called Hagrid to join him. Together, they went to tend to his beloved magical creatures.

And so, that afternoon, Qin Yu set foot for the very first time in the mysterious Forbidden Forest of Hogwarts!
