Harry Potter: My Life as Hermione’s Houseguest

Chapter 20: 《Harry Potter: My Life as Hermione》Chapter 20: Experience Can Get You Killed

Can anyone tell me what to do when you're lost in the Forbidden Forest? Seriously, I need answers—fast!

These frantic thoughts flashed through Qin Yu's mind.

Honestly, he wasn't even sure if he was the one who'd gotten lost, or if it was George and Fred, those two incorrigible troublemakers. Either way, the result was the same: he was alone now.

He didn't dare shout their names too loudly—after all, this was the Forbidden Forest. Who knew what kind of ferocious beast he might attract?

Qin Yu glanced at the crude map Hagrid had given him, then looked up helplessly at the tangled trees and looming boulders around him. With a sigh, he stuffed the ragged piece of cloth back into his pocket.

He had to admit it—he'd been impulsive. He'd figured the Forbidden Forest couldn't be that bad. After all, little Harry had been sneaking around in here since he was a kid.

"So much for experience—sometimes it'll get you killed. You really have to be careful in a magical world," Qin Yu muttered, picking his way through the pitch-black woods.

He no longer had any idea where he was. He tried to rely on his memory and sense of direction, but it wasn't working. The forest around him grew more and more unfamiliar.

As the darkness pressed in, his nerves began to fray.

Every so often, a strange sound echoed from the shadows, or an animal darted past, a black blur in the gloom.

Just as his skin began to crawl, the dormant power within him suddenly stirred, restless and eager.

Finally, in a moment of pure instinct, that power surged up to his forehead.

Suddenly, Qin Yu could "see" everything around him with perfect clarity, and "hear" distant noises as if they were right beside him.

It was intoxicating—he felt invincible.

With that mysterious force enhancing his senses, his "sight" stretched further and further, his "hearing" expanded outward like ripples on a pond.

He could "see" the outlines of things hundreds, even thousands, of meters away. He could "hear" faint noises from just as far.

It didn't take long to spot George and Fred, their movements frantic as they stumbled through the woods.

Relief surged in his chest. He was about to head their way when a faint, plaintive whinny reached his ears.

It sounded just like Kelly the unicorn—but younger, more fragile.

Of course—it had to be little Anna!

Empowered by what felt like Obscurus Power, Qin Yu found his courage swelling. He'd come this far—there was no way he'd leave the baby unicorn in danger.

He focused on the direction of the cries and took off at a run.

Soon, he reached a cave, the unicorn's cries growing louder and more desperate.

His heart leapt. He'd found the place.

Inside, a small golden unicorn—Anna—was struggling, bound tight on the cave floor.

"Anna? Is that you?" Qin Yu called softly.

The baby unicorn answered with a louder, more urgent whinny. It was her.

He rushed forward to help.

Up close, he saw the bonds were layers upon layers of white silk threads.

His heart skipped a beat as a dreadful possibility dawned on him.

"Who are you? You're not Hagrid." An ancient, rasping voice echoed through the cavern.

Qin Yu turned—only to see a spider the size of a carriage.

Its entire body was shrouded in coarse black hair. Eight eyes, eight legs, and two enormous pincers, sharp as scythes…

An Acromantula.

He'd been so focused on the unicorn that he hadn't noticed—he'd walked straight into an Acromantula's nest!

"Aragog?" Qin Yu stammered, his voice trembling.

"Oh? So you know me. Did Hagrid tell you?" the Acromantula replied, its tone slow and deliberate.

"Yes! I'm a friend of Hagrid's!" Qin Yu blurted out.

"I see… then why have you come here?" the Acromantula asked.

"I… got lost…" Qin Yu replied, half-honest, half-lie.

"Ah, what a pity," the giant spider crooned, its voice dripping with mock sympathy.

Qin Yu knew exactly what that meant.

It wasn't a pity that he'd gotten lost. It was a pity that he'd die here—so young, so foolish.

Sure enough, a swarm of black shapes began to scuttle out from every nook and cranny, their rustling legs scraping against the stone.

"Could you… maybe ask your children to let me go?" Qin Yu tried, grasping at straws.

"Sorry. I promised Hagrid I wouldn't harm humans myself, but my children… and my children's children… I can't control them. Do you have any last words for Hagrid?" the Acromantula asked, its voice cold and merciless.

"Damn it—tell him yourself!" Qin Yu snapped, unable to hold back.

He cursed in Mandarin, which the Acromantula didn't understand—and didn't care to.

Rustle. Rustle. Rustle.

The sound of countless legs drew closer.

Qin Yu could see the glint of black eyes, the gleam of deadly pincers.

The baby unicorn sensed the danger too, thrashing on the ground, hooves kicking wildly.

The spiders closed in, forming a living wall around their prey.

No tactics, no hesitation—just a handful of the closest spiders lunging straight for Qin Yu.

Wingardium Leviosa!

At the last possible moment, Qin Yu whipped out his wand and cast the Levitation Charm.

The first wave of spiders floated up, legs flailing helplessly in midair.

But more came, swarming from behind.

Panicked, Qin Yu swept his wand again. Petrificus Totalus! The second wave froze in place, bodies locked rigid.

The spell worked—so he cast it again, and again, freezing as many spiders as he could.

But there were too many. Two fists couldn't beat four hands—let alone dozens of spiders, each with eight legs. Qin Yu was quickly overwhelmed.

Suddenly, a strand of web shot out of the darkness, wrapping tight around his wand.

Caught off guard, Qin Yu felt the wand jerked from his grasp.

Without his wand, his magic was useless. He was defenseless.

"Bloody hell, am I really going to die here?" Qin Yu raged inwardly.

What kind of luck is this…? He was almost ready to cry.

Ding! Dear Host, life is full of surprises. You're facing a life-or-death crisis. At this moment, how will you escape danger? Please make your choice—

[Option One] Rely on your wisdom and courage to escape the Acromantula swarm. Reward: 100,000 Galleons.

[Option Two] Unleash your Obscurus Power and crush the Acromantulas with overwhelming force. Reward: Room of Requirement summoning privileges.

A familiar, mechanical voice echoed in his mind—the system, always appearing at the worst possible moment.

If I could escape with "wisdom and courage," I'd have done it already! Do I need you to spell it out for me?! Qin Yu raged silently.

But there was no time to hesitate.

"Option Two!" he shouted in his mind.

Ding! Host has chosen to use Obscurus Power! Please surrender yourself to the Obscurus!

Surrender myself? What does that even mean? Qin Yu wondered, panic rising.

But before he could think, a tidal wave of power surged up from nowhere, and a blanket of darkness swallowed his mind…

Just before he blacked out completely, he seemed to hear wild, maniacal laughter and the sound of shrill, desperate screams.

Damn, this is kind of badass—but it feels seriously weird.

That was his last thought before his consciousness plunged into the endless void.
