Harry Potter: The art of divination

Chapter 20: Who Is Tom Riddle? -20

*Morpheus pov*

The next couple of days after Halloween I spent relaxing and taking care of my body. Rituals take a lot out of you, especially ones like I did.

After Halloween, I started teaching my class more in-depth on various topics leaving some questions to be unanswered. I wanted the kids to be curious because once one is curious that curiosity will build into thirst.

And when you truly thirst for knowledge that is when you learn the most. I'm not teaching the children anything bad or untoward I'm just guiding them to seek answers for themselves.

Once one commits to self-study their knowledge and skills will slowly grow. Their minds will not be one-tracked with only information coming from one source.

I felt a smile creep onto my face, it was weird I'm not a kind person nor am I a good person but, with teaching, I actually care about the kids.

Maybe it's because if they didn't do good then it makes me look bad? That must be it.

I stood in the Hogwarts library browsing the bookshelves, it was disheartening how low this place had fallen. Over the years the ministry banned many beautiful arts and spells.

With these changes, the once-grand library of Hogwarts began to fall. Books were stolen, ripped from their rightful place to be locked up or burned.

It pained me to find some of the books I had written under some pen names gone.

Like they never existed in the first place.

In the restricted section I found what I was looking for, the student registry. Every student and house they were in was recorded in this very book.

It might be weird to some why this book was in the restricted section and not the headmaster's office. The simple answer is the information isn't damaging. It only says the name and house of each student. This way students or teachers who come here can find old family ancestors and see what House they were in.

Sometimes families don't record that type of stuff.

Pulling out the registry I began searching for a name. Now that I was finished with my rituals I think it's time to begin my little quest.

When Helena first told me the news of what this Tom Riddle had done I did some very vague divinations. These types of spells couldn't be tracked or evaded even by me.

I first asked the question, 'Does Tom

Riddle still have the Diadem'

The answer was a resounding no.

My next question was, 'Is the Diadem near Tom Riddle'

The answer was no.

My last question was, 'Did Tom Riddle hide the Diadem'

The answer was a crisp and beautiful yes.

This made things much easier after I find out more about this child I will go to the location Helena told me about and start my work.

If the item is hidden somewhere I can very well track where he went after retrieving it.

That way the damn objects wards will be ineffective.

Smiling to myself I finally landed on the name, Tom Marvolo Riddle House Slytherin.

During the time he went to school, I'm guessing his fellow Slytherins weren't happy to have someone like him in their class.

Putting down the book I left to go find a ghost. Soon my eyes landed on a certain Baron.

"Baron, tell me about this Tom Riddle," I ordered calmly

"Ahaha, Lord Morpheus it would be my pleasure," I could tell he was nervous in my presence

"Tom Riddle was an odd one, he didn't seem to mind that he was not well-liked. He came off as a nice young man. But when no one was around Tom was ruthless, and slowly he began to gain a following. Anyone who crossed him was hurt soon after. He came to be the ruler of the Slytherin house," The Bloody Baron said solemnly

I hummed gently, "Interesting, anything else?"

"Yes during his time in school, a girl died. Everyone blamed it on Hagrid but, Dumbledore fiercely defended the giant," The Baron said in a hushed whisper

"Who was this girl?" I asked curiously this child is getting interesting

"They call her Moaning Myrtle, she's a ghost now in the bathroom," My Ghostly informant answered

After my little talk with the Bloody Baron, I decided to go out in search for this Moaning Myrtle. What a horrible nickname.

Quickly I found the bathroom and right at that moment, it hit me. This bathroom sounded so familiar because this is where Salazar put the entrance to his chamber!

"Miss Myrtle?" I said gently

Like a hurricane, a ghost flew from the stalls.

"AHHHH!" She screamed loudly once she saw me

"MONSTER!" She shouted in terror

I sighed and pulled out my wand, flicking it a bright flash appeared. Moaning Myrtle hung in the air frozen.

I walked over and touched her ethereal head, "Spiritus ostende mihi mortem tuam!" the moment before her death began to play in my eyes

I saw her crying in the bathroom and then I saw a Baskalisk appear.

Blinking as the vision disappeared I frowned gently. This Tom Riddle is not your average wizard.

"Alright Tarot group, gently hold your brushes and slowly trickle some magic down the carvings. Imagine them in your head, imagine your magic slowly sinking into the wood and traveling to the frills," I said to my fourth-year class

"I see a couple of you got it down, now dip your brush in the first pot. Then close your eyes and let your magic guide you. Think of what card in the tarot deck you want to draw, think of what it looks like to you," I instructed the faster students in making their cards

Seeing them begin I started to help the slower students.

At least some students in this year got it down, my third years are struggling. I might have to revise the midterm for the younger year, it seems the concepts might be a little too hard to grasp.

Part of me is glad that, finally, my classes are moving at different paces. This way I can better focus on what each grade needs.

Once the class was done I saw Mr. Lovegood walking hurriedly toward me in the hall. I already knew what he wanted.

"Fourth year," I said to him not letting him speak

"But-"

I cut the kid off, "You need better fundamentals of magic first, by your fourth you should be able to learn from me"

"In the meantime work on your control of magic, cast easy spells with as little magic you can, then with as much. Learn your limits and then control and improve them," I suggested while turning into the Great Hall

Ever since the incident, those trouble-making students barely need supervision. Making my day much more peaceful.

However, I have heard some people around the castle talking about some type of pranks.

It's probably those Gryffindors. They seem like the type of bunch to do just that.

As I got to my seat I saw Albus and Minerva were not there. How curious they usually never miss a meal. Especially Minerva, she likes to watch the students to make sure no trouble happens during dinner.

I wonder what's happened?
