Chapter 35: The Investigation-35
*Narrator Pov*
Albus Dumbledore was sitting in his office with Filius, both men had looks of concern marked upon their faces. Filius realized he was missing a student, at first he thought Marcus might have missed the train but, two days went by, and no one reached out by letter.
Filius then quickly headed to Dumbledore's office where the old headmaster was also alarmed because he just received a letter from the head Auror.
The Aurors are investigating the disappearance of Marcus Note, his parents have been worried sick and contacted the Aurors immediately.
They forgot to contact the school and have been out searching for their lost son.
"They are coming soon Filius, then we can finally learn what's happening," Albus said gently to the concerned professor
Filius treats every student importantly, he thinks of them as his responsibility inside and outside of class.
The floo lit and two men walked through one was tall and lanky while the other was grizzled and looked like he trained every waking minute of his life.
"Thank you for coming, Filius and I are both concerned about the disappearance of Mr.Note," Albus said his tone was heavy
The grizzled man replied solemnly, "Mr. and Mrs. Note explained in detail how their son was acting strange when he got back from Hogwarts, he was having mood swings, and seemed to be exhibiting violent behavior. We came to ask if you know anything about what happened during this year,"
Albus looked very concerned as he thought about young Marcus.
Filius asked, "May I know your names?" he also seemed deep in thought
The man who spoke earlier answered, "Corbin Leyhugh, and my partner Matthis Mckenny. Sorry for the late introductions Headmaster and Professor," he said while rubbing the back of his head
Filius had a sudden thought, "Well Mr. Leyhugh I want to thank you for investigating this, it has been concerning me these past couple of days. The only thing I can think of that happened was Marcus had detention with Professor Morpheus for some time. It wasn't really detention but an excuse to help Marcus keep up in class,"
"I see, we will need to speak to Professor Morpheus then," Matthis said solemnly
"Yes that would be best, I didn't have much contact with Marcus myself, if I remember he was a very quiet child who mainly stuck to himself. What his parents described is simply out of character," Dumbledore said his bros knit together in confusion
"Fawkes please fetch our professor," Dumbledore asked his trusty familiar
*swoosh* Fawkes disappeared in a flash
"Tea?" Albus asked the Aurors and Filius
"No thank you," Matthis and Corbin replied at the same time while Filius indicated he wanted some
Albus poured two cups passing one to Filius while keeping the other for himself.
*Fwoosh* Fawkes appeared this time with Morpheus
The two Aurors widened their eyes in surprise while looking at the divination professor's figure.
The usual off-putting smile was spread across Morpheus's face as he asked the room, "What can I help with gentlemen?"
Matthis surprisingly talked first, "My name is Matthis Mckenny, and this is my partner Corbin Leyhugh we are investigating the alarming disappearance of Marcus Note a Ravenclaw student whom we recently heard you helped tutor for some time, did he exhibit any odd behavior during his time in your class and during your tutoring sessions?"
Matthis purposefully left out that Marcus was acting strange when he arrived home.
Morpheus's smile disappeared replaced by a genuine look of worry, "Marcus has gone missing? For how long I'm a master of divination I could help with the search please let me know if there is anything I can do. As for if I noticed anything strange no I didn't, as I've only been teaching for a short time I wouldn't know him enough to have a grasp of his regular attitude but, what I will say is when I was tutoring him he was very respectful. After our tutoring sessions, he seemed the same but, during midterms, he seemed unfocused and was getting frustrated when he thought he was doing badly,"
Morpheus then added, "It was weird because he was doing as well as the other students, I just summed it up to anxiety,"
The two Aurors nodded while writing down every word Morpheus said. Morpheus embodied the typical worried teacher.
Corbin then addressed the room, "Any friends we should talk to?"
Filius sighed, "The boy was shy, I don't think he had any friends,"
The Aurors sighed while looking at each other, "We will continue to investigate, expect a check-in soon. Also, please inform us if you can remember anything. Professor Morpheus, you said you're a master of divination?" Corbin said
Morpheus nodded, "Yes, not tooting my own horn but I'm one of the best in the subject. Please, if you would allow me I would love to try and locate him,"
Matthis scoffed, "You are welcome to try,"
Corbin glared at his partner, "I'm sorry for my partner, he doesn't have the best opinion of divination. Please try and locate him using your methods we would appreciate the help. Again please inform us if you find anything,"
They then disappeared through the floo.
Filius turned to Morpheus and said, "Ignore that ignorant Auror, please try to locate Marcus,"
Morpheus scoffed, "There are people like him everywhere, I will find Marcus. I hope he's okay that child had potential,"
"You both need to get back to your classes it's been long enough, and I will continue to search for Marcus using all of my resources," Albus said sounding tired and concerned
"You are right it's no use worrying up here after my classes are done for the day I will visit his parents," Filius said while getting up from his seat
"I was planning to visit them myself, I will wait for you to finish your classes before going. In the meantime, I will inform the other professors hopefully someone can find something," Albus replied
With that, both professors left to attend their own classes while Albus stayed and began to write several letters.
Sadly, many will be disappointed with what they find.
Young Marcus Note disappeared from this world, it wouldn't be a stretch to say from the moment that demon found a way to send his blood through the veil and have Marcus ingest it, his young life was already ended.
And he won't be the only child full of potential to be crushed by the demons or the gods or even the angels.
No, Marcus Note was just the beginning.
The air around Britain was slowly beginning to change, a storm was brewing. Many wouldn't see the storm until it fully grew, but those who were paying attention were preparing for the worst.
And like it or not the people who will be present in the storm's eye will be the next generation of witches and wizards.
Albus looked out the window of his office, his gaze seemed to be boundless, rain gently began to fall across the castle. Lightning arched in the sky.
Albus hoped he could prepare the children for what was to come.
