Harry Potter: The art of divination

Chapter 37: Bad news my friend

After the meeting ended I went back to my room in the guise of needing to prepare I would stay here for a couple of days.

What I will really be doing is quite simple, leaving the castle. Nicolas invited me for dinner some time ago, I think I will take him up on that offer.

*Albus Pov*

It's been a day since the meeting I held, the professors working on the dueling club plan said they needed one more day to finish the draft.

I'm glad they were taking the task seriously, especially because dueling can be dangerous for the students. If all goes well multiple avenues of progress can be reached in one grand stroke which was what Morpheus was probably aiming for.

I've been trying to predict his movements if I was to become a real ally to the man I needed to have a clearer understanding of his character. Alas, he seems unpredictable.

Currently, I sit in front of his fourth-year divination students. It was remarkable how focused they were on practicing the unique method of magical control Morpheus proposed.

The reason magic control isn't openly a part of the regular Hogwarts curriculum is entirely because of variation. With the previous methods, usually, only a certain number of students can practice them. They involve complicated exercises, the average student wouldn't be able to practice.

This is why we broke the practice of magic control into several different classes. In charms, you would practice the power output.

In Transfiguration, a student would learn and practice how to make their magic malleable being able to transform the simplest of things into the most complex of things.

In defense, they learn practical usage. The list goes on and on.

Morpheus's method is beautiful in its simplicity, anyone can practice this and succeed.

I wish I didn't have to be on guard with Morpheus.

Life hardly grants those wishes.

"Ms. Hawkins when casting the Lumos spell instead of imagining what the actual spell looks like imagine a dim light. It seems you are habitually trying to cast the spell as you would with your own wand," I suggested with a small smile

The class continued like so, I would see where a student was failing and try to give them a nudge in the right direction.

Feeding them the answers would do no good.

Two days passed in a flash, it was now the date Morpheus gave the professors and me for when he would complete his divination.

Minerva, Filius, Poppy, and I awaited him in my office. We were the only ones in my office as the other professors opted not to attend. It seems they had no faith in Morpheus.

Minerva seemed to be here mainly out of responsibility, I know of her dislike for divination.

Soon Morpheus appeared with a grave expression. I could see the hopeful gaze in Filius's eyes dim at the sight of the divination master.

Morpheus ignored us all when he walked in and went straight to the liquor cabinet in my office. I keep some fire whisky for special occasions.

He opened the door and quickly took the fire whisky taking off the lid he poured a large glass then raised it to his lips and downed it in seconds.

"Marcus Note is dead," He said in a flat tone

"Can you be sure?" Filius asked while holding his head in his hand

"Yes, I saw a vision of him it looked like he was well not himself, then a flash of a spell, and then his dead body in the snow, then I saw some type of spell that burnt away all of the traces," He poured himself another glass while tipping the bottle toward us

I, Minerva, and Poppy declined while Filius accepted a glass.

I could tell Morpheus was hiding something he saw, I must talk to him alone.

"How do we know this 'vision' of yours isn't just hogwash," Minerva said sharply

Morpheus sneered, "Stop being a fool, Minerva why do you think divination even exists? It's certainly not because wizards thought it would be funny to trick people into thinking it was real! I am a master of the art, I wouldn't be wrong about something like this,"

Minerva was about to reply, but before I could cut in Poppy interjected, "What should we tell the Aurors? What should he tell his family?"

I thought for some time, "We will provide the DMLE with what Morpheus saw and let them decide,"

"Did you see anything that can lead us to who killed Marcus?" Filius asked Morpheus

Morpheus sighed, "It was dark but, the attacker wore a black robe and what seemed to be a silver mask,"

"I see," Filius sighed deeply

I can understand his pain, being the head of a house makes you feel as if every student is a child of yours, a child you need to care for. Being the headmaster of Hogwarts makes me feel as if everyone is my responsibility.

To have a situation like this is rare, it hasn't happened since Myrtle.

When the professors left Morpheus stayed behind while pouring himself another drink and then another glass which I assumed was for me.

"Albus, I wouldn't be reacting like this if it was a simple death. You need this drink," He passed me the drink and sat down across from me

"What did you see," I asked while taking the glass in my hand

"Marcus could hardly be called Marcus when he was killed, it was dark as I said so I couldn't see clearly but it looked like he was losing his mind, turning almost animalistic. The dark figure I saw seemed to be watching the scene, only attacking when Marcus himself attacked," He said calmly

We sat in silence. My mind was processing what he said, forming a horrifying conclusion.

The very same conclusion I think Morpheus formed, Marcus was being experimented on.

He lost his mind during the experimentation and attacked the first person in sight.

Slowly I lifted my glass taking a large sip. The situation was getting worse. If my guess is true the students need to be prepared.

I need to be prepared.

"What do you think their goal was?" I asked the clear-eyed professor

He swished the fire whisky in his glass, "Who knows, possibly creating a new beast? Maybe even a wizard with heightened strength and senses? The possibilities are endless,"

*Morpheus pov *

Leaving Albus's office I had to fight the smile that threatened to form on my face, with this plan I have planted a seed in Albus's mind.

Once Tom Riddle and his group begin their attacks they most likely will wear the same outfit I saw them in at the market.

Albus, Filius, Minerva, and Poppy will make the connection. Causing their anger toward the group to increase.

Hopefully, that will lead to less resistance in training the students.

If Albus somehow learns the truth of Marcus's demise then I always have the option of revealing demons early.

With his knowledge, he most likely knows some things about the races behind the veil but, he probably thinks they are myths like the others.

But, I am one persuasive man.
