Harry Potter: The art of divination

Chapter 4: Welcoming feast-4

-narrator pov -

Helena Ravenclaw is a ghost at Hogwarts she was the daughter of Rowena Ravenclaw. Currently, the ghost, or as some call her the 'gray lady' was floating in the halls of Hogwarts before the new and old students arrived for the start of the new year. She likes to roam the halls freely reminiscing about the past.

Sometimes she felt as if the memories happened just the other day, as she floated through the halls she spotted a couple of professors arriving to start getting their rooms and classwork ready.

She turned the corner prepared to float through the ceiling up towards her tower when she stopped in her tracks.

Her eyes widened, "L-" she stopped herself when the pale man in front of her put a finger to his lips in a short shushing motion

"Hello, I am Morpheus, and you my lady," the man said giving her a soft bow

"Helena Ravenclaw it's a pleasure to meet you, are you a new professor?" she asked in a perfectly calm tone

"Yes, I will be teaching the art of divination," Morpheus replied, Helena had to fight the smile that threatened to form on her face

"Well I hope you have success many find the class to be an easy grade and a waste of time," she said with some disappointment in her tone

Rowena Ravenclaw was one of the best masters of divination to grace this world.

As Morpheus and Helena parted ways both carried different thoughts.

-Helena pov -

Morpheus was back in the castle looking as creepy as ever, he was always one of my favorite people to talk to. Mother always sang him praises, she practically worshiped the ground he stepped on for he was known to be one of the most knowledgeable wizards.

I can only remember one time when I saw him actually get into a fight, using fight loosely of course.

Sadly I remember him only coming and going as he pleased, no one knows his real age nor how he stays so young but, I do know that if he is teaching here then Hogwarts is going to be an interesting place to be a ghost at.

Helena Ravenclaw, haunting Hogwarts. Who would have thought?

It's funny when people see me after so long I can always tell how envious they are that I appear to be so young and full of vitality. They don't realize that as much as it is a gift it is also a curse.

It's hard to travel these corridors once more with all of the memories I have here, I still vaguely remember the time when I first came here to help build this school. And young Salazar thought he could trick me into teaching him personally how I became ageless.

How Godric would hound me for tales about my battles, how dear Rowena would pester me constantly trying to extract every bit of knowledge from me.

And most importantly how Helga would try to heal the darkness that clings to my very being, she couldn't have healed me of course but, she always tried her hardest.

Hell always leaves a mark.

I always wondered if they would all treat me differently if they knew what I was called in Greece, what my family was called in Greece.

My brother always compared me to the theater masks, he said he never knew what mask I would wake up with that day whereas he was always the same.

Lier.

Drawing me out of my thoughts was the sound of footsteps approaching me, I spun around a smile spread across my face.

I'm meeting colleagues.

"You must be the new divinations professor," The woman said, she had a thick Scottish accent

"Why yes I am," I replied evenly holding my hand out

She took it, I could instantly tell she was good in transfiguration, "headmistress McGonagall?" I asked

"That would be me," she replied with a small smile

Letting go I laughed, "you don't seem to be a fan of my subject,"

She averted her eyes a little, "not really how could you tell?" she asked

"Once you achieve greatness in your subject it's easy to tell when people dislike it, don't you agree?" I replied calmly

She nodded, "I can, though transfiguration is a hard subject to grasp,"

"Much like divination," I added

She sighed, "I guess you are right. headmaster Dumbledore told me you plan to teach those without the gift how to do divination I thought that was impossible?"

I laughed, "not nearly as impossible as most think, I hope you can keep an open mind because I do wish for you to learn the joys of the art,"

She smiled lightly I could see approval in her eyes, "I won't be taking the class, Mr. Morpheus,"

Good, he hasn't told anyone my last name. That means he either respects my unsaid wishes or doesn't want the students to know so they can tell their parents.

"Yes but your students will and I hope you can see the work I present show through with them," I answered her

"I hope so," she replied we began to walk toward the great all in silence

Before the feast, I got dressed in a low-pitch black cloak, the material is actually an alchemical creation made by Nicolas himself I joked about wanting a cloth that seemed to suck in all light.

He made it.

Now it's one of my favorite accessories, looking in the mirror I saw my crazy hair and pale skin, I was always on the pale side but some rituals gone wrong, and here I am. It took some time to get used to but I definitely like the look overall.

I made my way out of my personal quarters and headed toward the main hall, as I passed a suit of armor it seemed to move, I turned and sent a shushing motion towards it.

Chuckling I eventually found myself in the professor's dining area, I sat next to the half-goblin Flitwick. His people have a mixed opinion of me.

Once I walked into a Gringotts and was immediately attacked and sometimes I'm greeted as a guest of honor.

"Nice to see you again Filius," I greeted him as I sat as we met in the halls before

"Morpheus, are you excited to teach? Nervous?" he asked

"A bit of both," I replied with a perfect anxious chuckle

He nodded with an understanding smile, "so I heard you are also a master in rituals?" he asked changing the subject

I couldn't help the large smile that spread on my face, "yes, they are my second passion, are you interested?"

"Goblins have some interesting rituals do you know any?" he asked

"Yes, they are rather interesting, especially the first blade rite," I replied

His eyes lit up, "you know of the first blade rite!" he exclaimed some professors turned to us curiously

"Of course, it is an important ritual to know even if humans can't practice it," I replied smoothly

Humans can practice it but, it's a rather secret ritual only the goblins should know. Thus it's believed that only goblins can practice it.

"Gentlemen the students are arriving maybe you can continue your conversation later," Dumbledore interrupted his voice a little strained

He really doesn't like rituals, which is funny because any master in the art can tell Albus has done a few himself.

As the great doors opened the older students began to file in, and I could feel their eyes on me. As I scanned the room I saw a couple of students looking at me more intently.

I see has the black family been told something about me?

Probably based on the way their grandfather reacted.

The sorting hat was brought out and I almost laughed, this was going to be an interesting time.
