Harry Potter: The Ghost

Chapter 3: The Wand Chooses The Wizard

Just as John had thought before Ollivander started his process of finding a suitable wand for John, it had taken almost two hours and hundreds of wands with different combinations and still there were no match.

Sighing, John turned around and told his family "Let me get some break and have James go at it."

James slowly nodded at this while thinking 'Is it possible that there is no wand that is suitable for him or is he really a squilb?... Whatever! Squilb or not, he's my brother and I won't show any different attitude to him from before and even if he is a squilb he have the clone power, that's cool power.'

Ollivander just nodded at the suggestion of John and said "It might be true that none of the wand combinations is compatible with young Potter. But I assure you that he will get his wand in my shop."

"Now, why don't we look for your partner." Saying so, Ollivander started his process, whatever that was and went behind the counter to get dozens of wands and made James go through something similar to what John did. But, instead of two hours it only took half an hour and James got a reaction out of one wand that indicated that it's the most suitable for him by showering the room with a golden glow. Seeing the reaction from the wand, Ollivander told James "It seems that young James is have found his match. Fir, with dragon dragon heartstring of Hebridean Black, aggressive but compassionate, 13inches in length slightly supple good for transfiguration and curses. It will take to greatness, but also have you survive some of times that could take your life."

James on the other hand just looked at the wand in his hand as he felt the connection from between him and the wand. While the rest, bar John looked concerned that there will life threatening time for James.

John on the other hand was skimming through the knowledge and memories that he got from the wands that was handed to him.

'Mmm, I see. So you have to do it like that huh? I should practice as much as I can to make these skills I got from the wands my own. I understand the gist of wandlore and have permanent skill in wandcraft now. I was also able to see the past of the woods used and the past of the creatures that core was taken from. Thanks to that I was able to see a a lot of Dragons, Unicorns and Phoenix's. Well I was hoping for there to be more than those three but that's all he have I think.'

After advising James on how to care for his wand and the merits of taking care of ones wand, Ollivander turned to John and said "The two hours and hundreds of wands you have held, only few wands showed any kind of positive reaction. Because of that I have deduced which wood will suit you the most. English Oak will do you good, a wand for good times and bad, this is a friend as loyal as the wizard who deserves it. Wands of English oak demand partners of strength, courage and fidelity. Less well-known is the propensity for owners of English oak wands to have powerful intuition, and, often, an affinity with the magic of the natural world, with the creatures and plants that are necessary to wizardkind for both magic and pleasure. The oak tree is called King of the Forest from the winter solstice up until the summer solstice, and its wood should only be collected during that time. It is said that Merlin's wand was of English Oak."

"Well that's good and all, but so what?" Looking in the eyes of the wand maker, John said "I still don't have a favorable wand core."

"True. That's why I'm going to give you wands that I have experimented with different cores from what I have use. And luckily for you, I have two experimental English Oak wood wands." Saying so he went to the back of the shop and came back with two boxes in his hand. Placing both of them side by side, he said "The one your right is wand made of English Oak with the Griffin tail feather as the core it's nine inches in length, give it a swish."

John did as he asked, and there was a reaction with golden glow similar to what happened with James and seeing that the Potter family felt joy swell in their hearts. John also smiled at it, but since he was a bit of curious what the other wand is made of asked Ollivander "What is the other wand made of then?"

Smiling at John, Ollivander said "English Oak with Thestral tail hair as the core, it's thirteen inches in length, with springy flexibility. It's my latest creation. Try it."

Nodding at Ollivander, John picked up the other wand and as soon as he touched it's handle, the whole store was covered in white light and they all heard the sound of wings flapping and few seconds later hooves touching the ground and finally a content purring sound.

John was the only one who felt a snout touching the part where his heart is, and he was the only one who was able to see the bony figure in black leather and with wings of bat. He looked into those beady black eyes and touched it's nape and told the creature "Thank you."

Right as he said those two words, the creature and the white light disappeared from the shop. And when everyone opened their eyes they saw the same golden glow that they saw with his first wand with his second wand.

Blinking his eyes, Ollivander said as he released the breath he was holding in as John held the second wand "It seems to me that my creations have found their match."

John just arched an eyebrow knowing fully well what Ollivander is trying to say and James who didn't understand it asked Ollivander "What do you mean by that?"

Moving his eyes to James, Ollivander said "What I mean is that your brother is the new owner of the two wands, in his hands. Both of those wands have found their partner and as I tell everyone I see, the wand chooses the wizard James." Looking at John, he continued "Both wands are new creations but I can tell you all right now, young John is a protector. He will stand as the Guardian of the Potter family. That, I can guarantee."

James just nodded at that with a smile on his face as he thought 'So while I lead the family he will be supporting me and guarding the family at the same time. That's just like him!'

Still looking at John, Ollivander said "Since you have two wands, I'll give you three wand holsters, two for you and one for your brother for free."

"Much appreciated. So how much is it?" John asked brushing aside the gift that Ollivander have given him and his brother.

Smiling at John, Ollivander said "That will be twenty one galleons for three wands."

Fleamount paid the amount and led the family out of the store and went into a restaurant and asked for a private room which was given readily. As they sat down in the private room Euphemia started to cast some charms in the room and nodded at her husband.

Looking at his family, Fleamount said "Well, it has been quite some wand purchase."

"You could say that." Charlus said as he looked at John and chuckled.

Dorea too chuckled but she schooled her expression to stern within seconds and said "Two wands bonding with you is good and all but this will also have to be kept secret. We can't have the world know that John will have two wands, Ollivander knows, but he won't babble around saying that John have two wands or that he sold an underage wizard two wands. So that's settled."

Fleamount sighed and covering his face with his hand, he said "It's one surprise after another with you son, so I have to ask. Is there anymore things that we should know and keep it a secret."

Shaking his head, John said with a wild smile "Nope. There's non, but I do have ideas to intergrate magic into mundane items and make them into artifacts."

"So it's only future secrets, we can do with that." Looking at John, Euphemia continued "Is these artifacts going to be surprise to us or are you going to divulge it to us?"

"Surprise for the future. If I divulge everything now, what's the point." John said with a smile.

"Fair." Euphemia said.

"Now, let's discuss something that will benefit both of you well in the future. I want you both to learn Occlumency a branch of mind magic. It will alert you and stop anyone from reading your mind. Are you ready for that?" Fleamount asked his sons.

"What else that band of magic can do?" James asked intrigued.

"Well, it can give you near photography memory, better memory and other things." Fleamount said. James then looked at John and said "Let's do this and see what we can do with this band of magic."

John just shrugged at James with a smile that showed his agreement at what James said. Then looking at his family he asked "I know that you four agreed to be my tutors in magical education. But can't I just study in a different school?"

"That's possible, but I don't want to hear the people say that one of the Potter sons is not good enough for the education in Hogwarts and also not good enough for the education in Britain. I know that the first one is inevitable, but I don't want to hear the second one. That's my reason, it might seem stupid, but for your own good and for the good of family, we have to homeschool you."

"Got it, I was just asking for some clarification. So, when are we start the mind arts?" John asked and James perked up at that.

"Right now. Legilimens!" Spat Dorea who was sitting opposite to John.

A second after she said the incantation for the legitimacy spell, her head snapped back in recoil and when she got her bearings back she said with amazement clear in her voice "How in the world!"

"What is it?" Charlus asked as he knows that his wife was not one to slack of in her mind training.

Utter confusion, curiosity and pride were on her face as she replied to her husband's question "He already have mental walls and I have to say that those walls are more like solid metal walls rather than mental wall."

The adults gaped at her words and Fleamount asked her as he was the first one to come out of his stupor "You are saying that my eleven year old son have mental shields that feels like solid metal wall?"

"Yes." Dorea replied with one word.

"Try me! Try me!" James jumped up and down on his chair as he felt that maybe, just maybe, he will also have those solid walls like his brother.

Dorea did as James asked and she had the same expression she had with John. Blinking away her surprise, she told her brother-in-law "It seems like both of them have the same type of metal barriers. Even though it's solid, I want them to study about it in depth, I don't want anyone to make a crack on the barrier and find their mind."

Nodding his head, Fleamount said "Let's finish James's shopping and get back to Potter Manor. We will begin our lessons there, and I don't want you two to slack off even though you two already have strong solid wall. The four of us will be trying find any kind of crack that will allow us into your minds, and I want you two to create secondary defenses after our lessons are finished."

"Yes dad!" Both of them replied with enthusiasm.
