Chapter 162: Draco's Recognition
"Harry," Daphne spoke when they were walking back to the common room. "can I talk to you in private, please?" She asked.
"Sure, Daph." Harry nodded before he turned to the others. "you guys go on, me and Daph will catch up." Harry said before he and Daphne walked off towards an abandoned classroom. Once they were inside Harry quickly put up some privacy spells. "What's up?" Harry asked once he was done. The second he had said that Daphne lunged forward and pulled him into a hug, her arms wrapped around his torso as she hugged him tightly while being careful to not hurt Jet who was still on Harry's shoulders.
"I'm...I'm really sorry that you're in this tournament." Daphne whispered.
"Thanks Daph." Harry smiled as he hugged her back. "I mean I like the idea of competing but no way in hell would I have done so if I knew my magic was at risk."
"It's not just that, Harry." Daphne said as she let go and looked at him. "You could die in any of those tasks."
"There are many times in my life where I could have died. I was too stubborn to die when I was twelve years old and poisoned by a basilisk in Salazar Slytherin's chamber of secrets, and I've only got more stubborn since." Harry told her with a smile, "Hey," he said in a soft voice as he wiped a tear off her face. "I will survive this."
"You had better," Daphne glared at him for a second before she shook her head. "Harry, when you were gone Tracey and I heard Parkinson whispering things into Draco's ear, stuff like how you were trying to 'upstage' him and so on."
"Hmm, thanks for letting me know." Harry frowned briefly. "I'll deal with that, I know how Draco works, thank you."
"You're welcome, just please be careful in this tournament." Daphne begged. "I want you to win but I really want you to survive it."
"I will, I promise." Harry told her. "I'd swear on my magic but that would be kind of redundant."
"Draco," Harry said as he and Daphne came into the common room, Harry sat next to Draco and placed a hand on his shoulder. "I want to thank you." Harry said.
"T...thank me?" Draco blinked.
"Yes, you see Draco I am related to the Black family through my grandmother and godfather and my adopted family, you're related to the Blacks because of your mother. Do you know what that means?" Harry asked him.
"Um...no." Draco admitted.
"It means that we are family," Harry smiled at him. "it means that - unless you try to kill me - we're on the same side. And you know what I think about you, Draco? You're like the Malfoys of old."
"W...what? Really?" Draco blushed.
"Of course," Harry said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "look at you, you're rich, handsome, strong, smart and loyal enough to never betray me. An ally I would gladly call my friend."
"Oh...t...thank you." Draco smiled, his chest puffing out slightly.
"You're welcome, I'm sorry that you weren't entered into the tournament but perhaps you can help me prove to Weasley and his kittens why the snakes are the superior animals." Harry grinned.
"Gladly." Draco grinned back.
"Excellent." Harry smiled, "The same goes for the rest of you." Harry said, the others smiled at him, though Parkinson's was a bit forced. Harry figured that sooner or later he might have to do something about her but that was a problem for another time.
"What the fuck, boy?" Arcturus asked as he, Sirius and the Tonks family were sat in a room with Harry. The group had come straight over once they found out that Harry had been entered into the tournament and had just finished listening to Harry explain what had just happened.
"That's not how I would have put it but yes, what the hell?" Ted asked.
"It was not my fault." Harry replied.
"Yes, we got that from your note." Tonks rolled her eyes. "But what the fuck?" She said, at this point Andromeda didn't even bother trying to correct her language.
"I don't know, like I said, all I know is that I didn't enter the tournament and then my name somehow came out." Harry sighed. "After that I was just working on damage control, I swore the oath to prove I didn't do it. Then we went into the side chamber."
"Where you were nearly about to murder Ludo Bagman." Sirius commented.
"He was very lucky that Angela was there." Harry growled. "But long story short I have to compete and I'm representing the house of Potter and Black. Lord Black, I'd love it if you'd be my representative and tournament judge."
"Why me?" Arcturus asked, raising an eyebrow.
"For a few reasons, one is because you're respected and not someone who people mess with."
"True." Arcturus nodded.
"Secondly because I trust you to make sure that there is no funny business going on with the judges. It's not like Fudge is going to be brave enough to try anything if you're there."
"True." Arcturus agreed.
"But the main reason is because I really want you to scare and torment the shit out of Bagman for risking your heir's magic for a fucking school tournament when he could have just drew names out of a hat, had competitions or chosen any of the hundreds of other simpler, smarter and safer ways to choose a champion." Harry admitted.
"Fair enough, I'm in." Arcturus grunted. He was about to say more when Jet began hissing. "What's the snake saying?" He asked.
"Oh, he wants to know if he can have Bagman's body once you're done with him." Harry answered.
