Harry Potter: The Vampire Prince

Chapter 241: 242: Miles, the Future Great Director

When Miles spoke about his new idea, his expression was full of excitement. He used exaggerated gestures to emphasize the brilliance of his concept—oh, and of course, its profitability.

Miles desperately wanted Nolan's approval for his plan! The reason wasn't hard to guess—rumor had it that his father, Mr. Bletchley, had suffered severe losses in the Muggle stock market last year. As a result, even Miles' allowance in Galleons had dwindled significantly.

Although he wasn't as impoverished as the Weasley twins, he could no longer afford his once-lavish lifestyle in the wizarding world.

"Making a movie?" Nolan raised an eyebrow and looked at his roommate, Miles. "If I'm not mistaken, you're talking about Muggle films? You mean, like the ones from Hollywood?"

By this time, they had returned to their warm underground common room. Everyone was lounging on the sofas, with Eve nestled in Nolan's arms. Nearby, a group of curious Slytherins had gathered around, making the already crowded common room feel even more packed. Only Miles remained standing as he enthusiastically answered their questions.

"Exactly, Nolan! Hollywood! Do you know how much money Muggle films make? If those magic-less Muggles can create profitable movies, why can't we?"

The moment some of the more traditional pure-bloods realized that Miles was passionately discussing 'Muggle nonsense,' they immediately lost interest and left. However, a few pure-bloods stayed behind, seemingly intrigued by the discussion. Perhaps it was the promise of profit that piqued their interest—who could say for sure?

"That so-called movie business is really profitable?" Montague, who was also holding his girlfriend in his arms, raised his doubts.

Miles didn't even get the chance to respond before others started bombarding him with questions.

"Can we even make movies?"

"Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?"

"We might become famous, like Libera Rousseau!"

"So, can someone explain what the hell a 'movie' even is?"

Sweating profusely, Miles struggled to answer all the questions from his fellow Slytherins. But the opinion he valued the most was Nolan's—because, well… Nolan was rich.

Miles desperately hoped his 'brilliant plan' would earn Nolan's support—or, to put it bluntly, that Nolan would be willing to fund his project with some of his Galleons.

After all, Miles himself had nothing—not even a single film camera.

Once the crowd quieted down slightly, Eve raised her hand.

"I have a question, Mr. Bletchley."

Clearing his throat, Miles gestured for her to proceed. "Please, ask away, Miss Stock."

"Well then, Mr. Bletchley, since you're a half-blood and also a film enthusiast, you must be aware of how high the production standards of Muggle movies are. We're just a bunch of underage wizards, with no professionals among us. What makes you think we can create a movie that—using your words—'makes money'?"

Eve was English. She had visited film sets before and knew just how many professionals were needed to produce a single movie. The shooting process alone required highly specialized environments and skilled workers.

Miles had no director, no script, and certainly no professional actors. Even with Nolan's financial backing, how would they overcome these challenges?

"Excellent question, Miss Stock. You've pointed out our lack of professional experience in filmmaking. But, Eve, don't you see what we have that Muggle filmmakers don't?"

"You mean… magic?"

"Exactly!" Miles waved his arms excitedly, his tone rising in enthusiasm, his face flushing red. "Magic! Muggles have to spend millions of pounds on special effects that we can achieve with a simple flick of our wands! They spend hundreds of thousands just to rent filming locations, but we can use the Room of Requirement at no cost!"

"Alright, I see your point…" Eve nodded, acknowledging some of his ideas. "If a team of wizard filmmakers existed, they wouldn't need as much funding to create fantasy films. But you can't use famous Muggle actors, because magic must remain a secret. Also, if too many wizard-made films enter the Muggle world, won't it risk exposing our entire society?"

Eve continued to raise one concern after another. Miles struggled to counter all of her arguments, and by the end, he slumped his shoulders in defeat.

"Fine, I get it… Maybe it's not such a great idea after all…" With a sigh, he trudged toward the dormitory, looking utterly dejected.

Just then, Nolan, who had been silent the entire time, suddenly spoke up.

"Speaking of movies, Felicia actually owns a film company."

"Huh?" Miles froze mid-step, then turned around, eyes wide. "Are you serious?!"

"Relax, Miles." Nolan waved a hand dismissively. "The Von Draugr family has deep roots in the Muggle world. My family has investments in nearly every major Muggle industry—oil, real estate, and arms manufacturing, to name a few. Then there's Felicia's personal interests… like fashion, wineries, and media."

The room fell into stunned silence. The Slytherins collectively inhaled sharply.

Until now, Nolan had rarely talked about his family's wealth. Most of his housemates could only guess at just how extensive the Von Draugr empire really was.

While pure-bloods might not fully understand, the half-blood students certainly did. A family with such vast investments was undoubtedly a financial powerhouse, a pillar of the British upper class.

The female students looked at Nolan with renewed intensity, their gazes burning with curiosity and admiration.

Eve, however, remained unsurprised.

The Von Draugr family was one of the two largest vampire clans in Britain, with intricate ties to the British royal family and aristocracy. Even Queen Elizabeth II herself would be considered a junior in front of Grand Duchess Felicia. As for Prince Charles and Princess Diana, they had even sent Christmas greetings and cards to the family.

The close association between the vampire nobility and the British monarchy—perhaps that was one of the reasons the English throne had remained stable for so long…

Who knew?

"In all honesty, Felicia and I have never really considered using wizarding methods to enhance Muggle products," Nolan continued. "But this is an interesting idea, Miles. Felicia sometimes gets whims and asks her company to produce films that suit her tastes. I could bring up your suggestion—she might just like it."

"That's amazing!" Miles cheered, feeling as if he had just won the lottery. "I knew this was a great idea, Nolan! Do you realize? No wizard has ever done something like this before! We'll be pioneers of a new era! I'll become the first—and greatest—wizard filmmaker! With magic and my impeccable directing skills, we'll dominate Hollywood! Muggles will be captivated by our 'special effects'—but they'll never know the truth! They'll think it's all just cinema magic! It's genius!"
