Chapter 243: 244: The Battle to Save Face · Part 1
Penelope had a headache. Nolan had a headache too.
Wizards weren't Muggles, and Percy Weasley, born in England, was no English gentleman.
However, he did share one trait with them—he cared about his pride more than anything. Unfortunately, he never quite learned the virtues of an English gentleman, such as respect and humility… or, for that matter, protecting women.
"Are you really going to do this, Weasley?"
Penelope was more than a little annoyed as she questioned Percy.
Today was supposed to be her date with Nolan. There was so much she wanted to say…
They could have enjoyed a lovely meal at Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop, picked out a stylish new robe at Gladrags Wizardwear, spent a cozy afternoon at the Three Broomsticks, and then returned to Hogwarts, where they'd end the night in that little room that haunted her dreams—one filled with both pain and pleasure…
But now, all of that was ruined!
And the culprit who had destroyed her plans was none other than Percy Weasley—clinging to her like a piece of stubborn toffee!
"Clearwater, this isn't my fault! You have to understand that!" The third Weasley brother huffed indignantly. "Right now, all of Hogwarts thinks you agreed to go on a date with me! If they see you dumping me, I'll become the laughingstock of the entire school!"
Penelope let out a long sigh. "So that's why you're ruining my date?"
Percy jumped as if his tail had been stepped on. "Date? You two are on a date?!"
"Why wouldn't we be?" Penelope rolled her eyes. "Honestly, Nolan and I planned to spend the day together, but you interrupted us."
"That's impossible!" Percy shouted, his face turning red. "He's younger than you! And—and he's a playboy!"
"Hey, Weasley." Nolan's expression darkened.
A playboy? Who was he talking about?
Nolan never considered himself a playboy. That word carried a negative connotation, one used for people with no sense of responsibility or self-control. But he, Nolan Von Draugr—brother to the Vampire Duchess Felicia, heir to the Von Draugr family, and in essence, a prince of the vampire world—was neither wicked nor depraved. Who was Percy Weasley to insult him like that?
"Listen, Weasley, I am not a playboy."
"Oh, you're not?" Percy sneered. "Then what about Stock from Slytherin and Chang from Ravenclaw? Didn't you date them too?"
"Damn it, of course they're my women—Penelope is as well," Nolan said impatiently. "But that doesn't make me a playboy."
"I don't understand your logic," Percy said, looking pale. "But I just hope that someday, when you have to choose one of them to be your wife, the others won't be left heartbroken by your lies."
His expression grew grim as he turned to Penelope. "And you, Clearwater—I bet you'll be the first one he abandons. After all, you're three years older than him."
With that final jab, as if unwilling to accept defeat against a younger 'playboy,' Percy stormed off, leaving Nolan and Penelope standing there.
"He's insane," Penelope muttered.
"An absolute nuisance," Nolan agreed.
"Why can't the Dark Lord just show up and hit him with a Killing Curse?" Penelope grumbled.
"Or maybe the leader of the Cold Claw Clan could just happen to be vacationing in Hogsmeade and bite his head off?" Nolan mused.
The two of them continued throwing insults at Percy Weasley, thoroughly irritated by his words.
If this had been last year, it would've been impossible to hear such cruel remarks from Penelope.
She had once been an upright young witch, pure and untainted like freshly fallen snow.
But that pristine girl had been stained with the crimson black of the Von Draugr family during Christmas. Inevitably, her way of thinking had begun to twist toward the darkness.
The topic only shifted when they finally arrived at Hogsmeade.
Penelope clung to Nolan's arm, smiling sweetly. "So, what's the plan for today?"
Nolan thought for a moment. "A plan? Oh, right. We need a house. There are quite a few rundown houses around Hogsmeade. We need one that's inconspicuous. You know the type—close enough to the street but secluded, somewhere people won't easily notice."
"With a basement…" Penelope's face flushed, as if she were already imagining the painful yet pleasurable nights ahead.
"Yes, a basement, thick stone walls, and good protective enchantments. That way, even if someone screams inside, no one outside will hear them."
"..." Penelope's face turned an even deeper shade of red. She shot Nolan a sultry glare, her voice coy. "I've never screamed that loudly!"
"Hmm?" Nolan raised an eyebrow. "Why would you be the one screaming?"
"Huh? Isn't this for us…?"
"Of course not!" Nolan shook his head. "Listen, Penelope, I know your preferences, and I don't mind indulging you. But we can't spend all our time on that. We have more important matters to handle."
"That basement…?"
"It's for experiments, obviously. What else were you thinking?" Nolan looked at her strangely. "We need a space to capture stray vampires and test my new spells on them. Naturally, they'll scream, which is why we need the right location. That's the whole reason we're house-hunting today."
"So… this isn't a date?" Penelope was dumbfounded.
Nolan shrugged indifferently. "I never said it was."
Penelope was thoroughly frustrated.
Now she understood what had happened today.
First, Percy had asked her out, but she'd mistakenly assumed it was Nolan. Then, she'd excitedly gone to find him—only to somehow end up in the Room of Requirement, enjoying a passionate session .
Before she could even recover, Nolan had invited her to Hogsmeade, and in her blissful, floaty state, she had eagerly agreed, assuming her dear master was taking his little pet on a date.
But it turned out they were house-hunting instead. How ridiculous.
Nolan, however, wasn't concerned with Penelope's frustrations. He was focused on finding a suitable house as soon as possible.
Right now, he desperately needed a magical laboratory.
Still, after a little while, Penelope's mood improved on its own.
After all, house-hunting together like this… wasn't it just like a newlywed couple looking for their future home?
