Chapter 10: Heavenly Asura Path 10
Chapter 10: Earth
Inside the Star Dou Forest, Liu Erlong kept a watchful eye on the surroundings. She of course knew how important the process of absorbing a spirit ring was, especially one that was ten thousand years old and above. The first part was the destruction of the spirit ring which manifests with the death of the spirit beast. The second part was the combat of the ring, where the energy left in the ring was combated, and in case of a black spirit ring (10,000 - 99,999 years) it often came with mental shocks and even the grudge of the dead spirit beast, so high mental power and soul power were needed to be able to accomplish these processes.
The third process was the dissolution of the spirit ring, which also needed enough power to withstand it or the spirit master might die.
Finally, the last process is called internalization of the ring, and unlike the previous three processes, this one needs enough physical power to accomplish it.
After more than three hours, Liu Erlong watched as Percy's spirit rings manifested and a fourth black-colored ring appeared next to the first three. The process was over and it had been a success!
"What ability did you get?" Liu Erlong couldn't help but ask curiously as she saw Percy slowly opening his eyes.
"It's called Absolute Edge. The ability sounds simple, but it's powerful: My martial spirit's attacks ignore the opponent's defense."
Liu Erlong couldn't help but inhale sharply. She didn't know what Percy's third spirit ability was, which was supposed to be a black ring. But the first, second, and fourth abilities were already too powerful.
Not only that, the best spirit ring configuration should be: two yellow, two purple, and five black. However, a hundred thousand year red ring was too difficult to obtain, so she often ended up with five black rings in the end. But without a doubt, a hundred thousand year old red ring was something that surpassed the normal configuration.
But, in Percy's case, he had one yellow, one purple, and two black ones. This configuration was already too impressive!
"Alright, I've already gotten what I needed, let's go back," Percy said before he took out his scarlet wings again and soared into the air. Liu Erlong only nodded before following him, looking at his back with a strange feeling in her chest. However, almost at that very moment, the memory of a man's figure appeared in her heart, causing her slightly complicated expression to become much heavier and sadder.
Percy didn't know about this, his mind was set elsewhere. Now that he had reached level 42 by absorbing the fifty thousand year old spirit ring, he was one step closer to his revenge. He only needed to reach level 50 in order to begin the Asura God inheritance.
At the same time, in the Milky Way, planet Earth was in a process of change like no other.
Inside a temple, a woman was watching the news on a huge television. And within the temple's ancient yet gleaming appearance, the television seemed to not fit in at all.
"Currently, this is the third magnitude 8 earthquake that has happened in the past month. The first was in Norway, then Japan, and just two days ago, our country, the United States just suffered," a woman was recounting the news with a serious expression next to a man.
"The strangest thing about this situation is that no seismological center of the respective countries in the world has been able to foresee this kind of situation."
As the two news anchors continued with their work, the woman watching the television gritted her teeth fiercely. Her grey eyes looked stormy as she watched the situation of the world. She, like many others, knew the reason for what was happening.
"Idiots... Complete idiots!" she muttered furiously as she clenched her delicate yet powerful hands into two fists.
"First the situation with Perseus, and now the stupid situation of a civil war between gods. Do they really have such a hard time thinking? Is that man really that useless?!"
"In this kind of era, do you really think mortals could worship you like in ancient times?" the woman shifted as her wavy hair seemed to float behind her. Obviously, she wasn't even the slightest bit happy with what was happening.
"Zeus... you'll only cause unnecessary deaths and trouble," the goddess muttered as she calmed down and rubbed her forehead. Since three years ago, she wasn't happy with the situation of the Greco-Roman pantheon. First, Ares and Zeus colluded to frame Perseus for the rape of two Camp Half-Blood campers and threw him into Tartarus.
As the patron of heroic endeavor, this sort of thing was unacceptable. Even if Perseus, in her opinion, was not the best choice for her daughter, this was only at the beginning. She watched as the immature youth slowly grew into a man, a hero who might be hard to beat.
In fact, if it weren't for how surprising Ares and Zeus were, she would have helped Perseus in every way possible. He deserved it.
Now, however, Zeus wanted mortals to worship them again like in ancient times. He wanted to make the gods appear before mortal eyes again. However, that was foolish. Nowadays, humans would not sit back and watch gods descend into the world. They would do anything to defeat the gods! Some would even think of getting their hands on some divine power so they could become gods themselves!
Because of this, the pantheon has been splitting into the camp of those who wanted to maintain the current state and the other, led by Zeus, who wanted to be worshipped as before. The current discontent and strife had caused disasters all over the world. The current earthquakes were just a few next to the storms at sea and air disasters.
Athena knew that the world would change, and not only in terms of beliefs, but the planet was about to be changed. And she understood that if this continued, even the continents could collide and cause irreparable damage to the planet.
And with Gaea sleeping, the planet Earth might not be able to heal properly!
"I have to do something... if this continues, then...", Athena inhaled a breath of air before sighing tiredly. But, as she wanted to rest a bit and think of a possible solution, three presences made the hair on her neck stand up.
"Who?!" she exclaimed angrily, but immediately calmed down upon seeing three old women appearing in her temple.
"Even if it's you, appearing like this is disrespectful."
"Apologies," Clotho muttered as she nodded. She and her sisters understood. "Sadly, this is no time for labels, Athena."
Frowning at the slightly worried expressions of the old women of fate, Athena pressed her lips together.
"What's wrong?"
Lachesis decided to answer, "A while ago, before Perseus Jackson was born, we had already glimpsed his destiny. He was supposed to defeat Zeus, causing the pantheon to remain in good standing."
"But we never thought that what happened when he was sent to Tartarus would happen," Atropos continued. "That wasn't supposed to have happened."
"Perseus... as King of Olympus?" Athena raised her eyebrows as she looked at the fates in shock.
The three old women nodded together.
"About three months ago, we discovered that Tartarus had decided to test Perseus and sent a horde of monsters to chase him all over Tartarus. At that time, he had lost an arm and was cornered near Chaos."
Athena immediately turned pale, realizing the repercussions of all this. If Perseus lived even in Tartarus these three years, then he could still be given help to fulfill his destiny, but now…
"At that time, his thread of fate disappeared completely. It's not like it was destroyed or evaporated, it just vanished as if it was taken from our hands."
"A day ago, we fell into a sleep," Atropos reported after waiting for Athena to digest the information a bit.
"Sleep? You guys?!" Athena asked in surprise. Sleep was only an option for the gods, unless they were too exhausted. And sometimes, they would fall into a dream when they saw something that could happen. But for the Fates to fall into a dream was simply unheard of!
"We saw Perseus but…" the three Fates frowned. "He is alive without a doubt. But, we fear that when he returns, he wants nothing more than to destroy in his thirst for revenge."
Clotho nodded: "What we saw was Perseus floating in front of Olympus as the sky turned blood red. His power along with a murderous intent was so great that it turned the world blood red."
"Athena… Perseus could no longer be the savior of Olympus, but its executioner. And this cannot happen."
The goddess Athena looked at the Fates with a slightly ashen expression. There weren't many things that scared her, but for Olympus to be destroyed and the gods killed was a little scary. And she had no doubt that the Fates were lying, those expressions weren't fabricated.
But, if the fates came to her talking about this, it meant that...
"What do they want from me?" she asked seriously. "If they came and told me this, it means they need something from me."
"You're right..." the fates nodded at the same time.
"We need a god capable of reaching Perseus. The place where he is is far away, but it is possible to reach him. And, currently, the only person who could do it... well... you know about her."
"I don't quite understand," Athena frowned.
The fates sighed: "Yes, we are sorry, but we hadn't finished talking yet."
"She is being watched for belonging to Hestia's group. Ares and Zeus are planning against her to turn her into a mortal and not interfere in the battle."
"Shit!" Athena cursed while clenching her teeth.
"What we want is for you not to intervene, not until she becomes mortal. At that point, we will help you send her to Perseus."
"I can't do that! With the way things are, those two could do anything to her!"
"We will make sure that your fears don't come true," the Fates promised. "But it's the only thing we can think of to reach Perseus's location."
Athena looked at the Fates and they looked at each other. Their gazes held for what seemed like hours. But suddenly, Athena let out a sigh and nodded.
"Fine..."
"Thank you," the Fates nodded before retreating.
