Chapter 17: Fight
As Mun and Lin arrived near the riverbank, the tranquil scene shattered with a bone-chilling howl.
The sound echoed through the forest, resonating deep within their ears, sending shivers down their spines.
Mun immediately activated his Heaven's Pact.
A spectral white dove materialized above him, its glowing eyes reflecting his own as it merged with him.
Small, radiant feathers swirled around his body, sharpening his senses and filling his vision with a pale white glow.
He scanned the area quickly and locked onto the source of the howl—Feng.
Feng stepped forward, his gaze burning with ferocity.
Behind him, the shadowy form of his Heaven's Pact emerged: a massive Blackwood Alpha Wolf streaked with silver.
Unlike before, Feng didn't dare to integrate the Heaven's Pact into his body, fearing the risks of losing his mind.
Instead, he used its raw energy to bolster his strength.
"Feng!" Mun shouted in alarm.
"We're under attack!"
He drew a dagger from his belt, its edge shimmering with spiritual energy, and attempted to intercept the incoming strike.
However, the moment Feng's darksilver-infused claw collided with the dagger, Mun's arm buckled under the sheer force.
Boom!
Mun was sent flying backward, crashing into the riverbank with a thunderous impact.
Sand and gravel scattered into the air as his body skidded to a halt, blood spewing from his mouth.
His face twisted in pain and disbelief.
Lin froze, his eyes wide with shock.
"What the hell is going on? Isn't this guy supposed to be a Broken Soul? How is he so strong?"
His voice trembled as he fumbled to draw his weapon.
Feng didn't wait.
Before Lin could process the situation, Feng had already closed the distance between them, his movements swift and precise.
Lin's instincts kicked in, and he hastily summoned his Heaven's Pact.
A spectral black rope with faint gray markings manifested around him.
"Dark Rope!" Lin shouted, sending the rope lashing out like a whip.
It coiled around Feng's right arm, tightening with every second.
Feng growled, trying to pull free, but the rope held firm.
Lin smirked, his confidence returning.
"I don't know what's made you so strong, you trash, but if you think you can take on the both of us, you're sorely mistaken!"
He turned his head toward his partner.
"Hey, Mun! How long are you planning to sit there? If you don't get up, this guy's gonna kill us both!"
Mun coughed and spat out more blood. "Shut up! I need you to buy me time to send a signal to Yuta!
You know the orders—if we find any leads about Ren's death, we call for reinforcements immediately."
He fumbled through his bag of holding, searching for the flare crystal.
Feng's eyes narrowed, their gray glow intensifying as he channeled his darksilver energy.
The spectral wolf behind him snarled, mirroring his fury.
With a sharp tug, Feng yanked Lin toward him using the rope.
Lin stumbled forward, unable to resist the pull, and Feng's left fist slammed into his stomach.
Thud!
Lin's eyes bulged as the air was knocked out of him.
Blood sprayed from his mouth, and his legs buckled.
Before Lin could recover, Feng delivered a vicious kick, sending him hurtling into the river.
The once-clear water turned crimson as Lin's body hit the surface with a splash.
Feng wasted no time. He turned his attention back to Mun, who was still scrambling with his bag.
Before Mun could retrieve the crystal, Feng scooped up a handful of sand and hurled it at him.
Mun scoffed.
"Are you stupid? My Heaven's Pact is the White-Eye Dove. Sand won't—"
His words were cut short as a streak of darksilver energy sliced through the air.
Feng's kick connected with Mun's chin, lifting him off the ground.
The spectral wolf behind Feng lunged, its massive jaws closing around Mun's right arm with a sickening crunch.
"AAAAHHHHHH!" Mun's scream pierced the air.
Blood gushed from his severed limb, staining the ground as he staggered back, clutching the stump.
"You bastard! Do you even know what you've done?!" His voice was filled with pain and rage.
Feng's expression was unyielding, his voice cold.
"I just cut off your right arm."
Mun's agony was interrupted by a sudden surge of black light emanating from Lin's Heaven's Pact.
The rope-like manifestation lashed out, striking Feng's back with a loud snap.
Blood seeped from the wound as more ropes materialized, their shadows multiplying and surrounding Feng.
"You're going to regret this, trash!"
Lin roared, his face twisted with fury as the black ropes writhed like serpents, slicing into Feng's skin and leaving a trail of shallow cuts.
Feng gritted his teeth, suppressing the searing pain.
He couldn't afford to lose focus now.
Mun was the priority—if the signal went up, reinforcements would arrive, and his already slim chances of survival would vanish.
Channeling his strength, Feng lunged at Mun, his right arm glowing with darksilver energy as it morphed into a claw-like shape.
He aimed directly for Mun's neck, determined to end the fight before it spiraled further out of control.
But Mun was faster than Feng had anticipated.
With a desperate cry, Mun yanked a flare crystal from his bag and crushed it in his trembling hand.
A brilliant beam of light shot into the sky, piercing through the dense forest canopy.
A triumphant grin spread across Mun's bloodied face.
"You're dead now, trash," he spat, his voice hoarse but defiant.
"Reinforcements are on their way."
Feng froze, his claw mere inches from Mun's throat, as his gaze snapped to the ominous light illuminating the sky.
The glowing flare cast light across the forest floor, spelling danger.
He didn't need to think twice.
He knew reinforcements from the village were imminent.
From what he'd overheard of Lin and Mun's earlier conversation, Yuta—a powerful cultivator at the 7th level of Qi Condensation—would undoubtedly be among them.
Facing such a foe in his current state was a death sentence.
Grinding his teeth, Feng made a choice.
He couldn't afford to be bogged down here.
His claw shot forward, closing around Mun's throat with unrelenting force.
Mun's eyes widened in terror as he choked on a strangled cry.
"Stop! If you kill him, everyone in the village will hunt you down!"
Lin screamed, his voice laced with panic.
The black ropes shot toward Feng's arm, coiling around it in an attempt to halt his movements.
But it was too late. Feng's grip tightened, his expression cold and unyielding.
With a sickening crunch, Mun's neck snapped, his head lolling lifelessly to the side.
The forest fell silent save for Lin's ragged breathing.
Feng turned his gaze toward Lin, his eyes glinting. "Your turn," he muttered, his voice as cold as the underworld.
